Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

Hello Bruce and thanks for the announcement.

If I may, can I suggest you update your op on page 1 so all (confusing) information on this announcement is on the same post? Please also add, unequivocally, that Horizons 4.0 and Odyssey 4.0 will be able to instance together, if that is the case.

Thanks!

Tried it yesterday (again).
I uninstalled it (again) after launching my beer through my nose 😂

They have written off the dev costs early so I doubt they are going to be bothered with tracking the DLC sales exclusively for investor reports now. Why would they be bothered with reworking an existing core feature in 2023 if they are just hanging around for Odyssey sales?! Plus didn't you read the post, it clearly states that codebase 4.0 allows them to do unique things with the Narrative that hasnt been done before, something that has also been pointed out by fdev earlier in the year. Therefore going through with a merge to unlock the new functionality in these broad Narratives doesn't sound like diminishing effort to me.
The narrative is just a story nothing really new , whilst I do agree that fdev have written off costs they have been hurt bad by the connectivity issues that plagued EDO and want to be seen as capable by the rest of the gaming community . And even after over a year of many fixes and "improvements" it's still not a finished product. So a new storyline or an upgrade of something next year which is already in game . With Fdevs communication dropping to pre EDO hype . To me it's diminishing effort whilst they ramp up the other stuff ( see F1) . But again that's my own opinion .

Maybe a sign of ED: Odyssey coming to next-gen consoles?
Wishful thinking, did you see the announcement from David Braben back in March of this extremely fast moving year?

Console development was terminated, except for critical updates to keep it running ‘as is’ on the systems.
Well, that ‘as is’ was not at all good enough for me, with at least 1x CE error crash out to the PS5 dashboard every session, but often far more.

If they had at least agreed to fix those, and left Horizons as is I might have stuck around.

Now, I’ll be PC only awaiting the September transfer of my PS CMDR.

There is no public information about that at this time.

Frontier might not even be sure at this point. They'll probably measure metrics of how many PC players play Horizons 3.8 versus 4.0 after the latter is available, along with how active the console playerbase is and how much income there is from consoles. If there's enough money coming in from 3.8/console players to justify the ongoing server side issues of running the dual versions then they'll continue to do so.
Once you've done much to discourage console players from playing on those platforms, I don't imagine it will be too long before 3.8 becomes uneconomic.

This should be interesting for consoles, if the previous gen can handle them ,this will be a huge egg on there (Frontier) face.I have no doubt the Current gen can handle it !

You should thank Sony's PR dept for that, plus Elite Dangerous was doing free updates before NMS existed!
They are different games. with different expectations. but are both smallish companies releasing procedural space games, so that;s why people make the comparison. and if you want to compare, NMS came out in 2014, same time as Horizons dropped. since then they have released 19 Odyssey type game-changing DLCs, for free. I'm not really into NMS, Elite takes up far too much of my life and I don't have time for other games lol. but even I have to admire that work ethic and commitment.
(I would argue that ED hasn't done bad either, with Horizons, Beyond, Fleet Carriers, Odyssey etc. but it's not the runaway train that NMS is, and I do get pings of jealousy when my NMS friends start talking about stuff)

Glad to hear that 3.8 is still around as Dav's Hope looks terribly ugly on EDO 4.0 ...

Oh and hopefully the problem withthe vanishing/missing planet dots in SC is solved, too ?

Wait a minute: is that by design??

The very few times I've played EDO I noticed bio/geo sites weren't showing on my panel and I simply thought "Oh well, just another Oddity bug".

Now you're telling me that's Working As Intended™? Who-- Wh-What the #$%&@ was FDev thinking?? 🤯

Well, that's yet another reason not to play EDO. :ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO::ROFLMAO:
Its exploration game play, one has to search for them...they're no longer just being handed to the player on a silver platter...

We’re happy to confirm Update 13 is coming on Tuesday 9 August and will see the highly anticipated conclusion of the Azimuth Saga. [...] We hope you’ll join us in HIP 22460 where we’ll be watching everything unfold!
Do we know if it's going to be an in-game event that we will be able to see if we are in the system?
Also, do we already know when it's going to happen, I really don't want to miss that!

Thank you :)

Cool, glad Frontier cares so much about the console fan base 👍

Between this awful handling of the situation, the fact I had to make a new email to use the forums (cause I have a Frontier account, but it's for console, not forums), and Frontier's general low effort in their other games, I'm just gonna drop them.

It's a shame cause I liked ED and Jurassic World, but Frontier only seems to care about PC on ED and JW is full of MTX to the point the base game is bare.

I'm sad that I'll never finish my journey to S* or see any of you goofball flying around again, but I can't support them just abandoning us like this.

Good bye pilots, o7
Thanks for letting us all know and I hope you enjoy playing whatever you choose too next. (y)
Your 5 minutes on the forum have been valuable.

I think it'd be nice to not have to play on the 4.0 branch like this anymore where 60fps on the 3.8 branch is doable:

let's hear it for performance fixes!

(the weirdest part about this: it doesn't seem to matter what my settings are at from this low to ultra, it's always 10-15fps regardless)
IMO, often in Odyssey, places where no game play happen, like in the hanger, have poor framerates when game play areas are much better. But YMMV as always...

I am wondering about two things:
1. Will Horizons 4.0 players have access to Elite I-V for the basic ranks ?
2. Would I as an Odyssey player be able to board the Scorpion of a Horizons 4.0 player as gunner on an airless planet ?
