Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

I don't see anything in this announcement that warrants wailing or gnashing of teeth. I think Frontier is doing the right thing by giving players like myself the best of both worlds. They didn't have to continue supporting Horizons Legacy, but they are, and for that I'm thankful. I am also glad to finally be able to test Odyssey's graphical updates on my own system before committing to a purchase (kinda like a SC free-fly).

Its exploration game play, one has to search for them...they're no longer just being handed to the player on a silver platter...
I'm afraid I disagree. The old times when we had to use our eyeball Mk1 to find things on planets, were not the good old times. I very much prefer the POIs that were introduced. At least we'll have client 3.8.

No worries.

The Odyssey Exobiology is geared that way, from my perspective, and it appears that is the way they are going forward...

I enjoy that kind of game play. Its hard and frustrating at times, which just makes it more rewarding to me when I do eventually find something I'm looking for, at least so far anyway...

All ye Horizon players, the time is near for that RTX 4090 Ti or Radeon RX 7900 XT purchase. The frames demand it!
Yet there's a thread about how Odyssey performs wonderfully on a humble Steam Deck. I feel there is way more to these performance issues than a simple "We're going to need a bigger boat graphics card". I'm glad to have a chance to try Odyssey Lite for myself. If performance is crap on my computer, then I'll just stick with 3.8 as I have been doing. I'm definitely not buying a new computer for what is arguably a very minor graphics quality buff (and maybe even a nerf, subjectively-speaking).

I, too, enjoy Odyssey, and prefer its colours. But I feel frustrated with the heat map and I'd like to be shown large concentrations of bios, like I think Rubbernuke suggested.

I am wondering about two things:
1. Will Horizons 4.0 players have access to Elite I-V for the basic ranks ?
2. Would I as an Odyssey player be able to board the Scorpion of a Horizons 4.0 player as gunner on an airless planet ?

1. no
2. no

There's a checklist on the announcement which I've copied below:

The point is the new planet terrain tech introduced signature Geological areas and features to learn where certain resources and biologicals are scattered instead of the two unrealistic iterations of the handful of POIs on a 1:1 scale planet. I'm not saying it shouldn't be iterated on further to aid navigation but it's a better foundation.
