Update 13, Narrative and Access to 4.0

No, it just lowers & raises... It is only in stations they slide & rotate.

Or at least on my FCs they just go up and down.
Unless you have phantom pads, like these:

No doubt others will feel that way also, Frontier are not unaware of some player's loathing of EDO's planetary tech, perhaps they have already accounted for the expected wastage and anticipate new sales of EDO to the console transfers and the current Horizons but no EDO players buying, to negate the loss of players who feel unable to move along with the game.
It's a performance issue for us.
I can't imagine 2nd PC running EDO
And I can't imagine playing without the misses.

how "realistic" ED is one easily can see with FD´s design of FC´s!
Supposedly your platform shall lower and slide backwards into parking position (thats what U experience eg. when going to the concourse).
By design of FD thats not possible as the platforms are directly adjacent, hence mechanically would overlap..... or like M-Pad 9 that parking position would be in space.....

edit: with M-Stations the same btw.....
Pads on carriers don't slide forwards the way they do on stations, they only go up and down.

This is great news! And it is the only option in moving forward with the game. Maintaining two different code bases is a resource eating nightmare. And even if there are a few downsides compared to the "old" Horizons code, it offers so much more options for future development, that it is what is wise to do if the game is to survive for a long time. And I very much hope that it does.

So if we ever want to see further and faster development on that game, one code base is the way to go.

I have no problem with how Horizons looks on my computer with 1.25 supersample, but I've read that Odyssey (and thus Horizons 4.0) has worse aliasing.
It's about the same, actually (poor). You do notice a lot more when you're on foot, in settlements, etc. though. It really needs to be upgraded.

So let me get this straight in my head, We'll have available to us in the launcher something like the following ;-
  • Elite Dangerous Odyssey, where we get new all new functionality and the all the new narrative OR if you haven't got EDO installed you get Elite Dangerous Horizons 4.0 (lets call it EDO-lite), where we get everything except the on-foot content and any narrative which requires on-foot functionality. However, we can interact with full Odyssey players and you get full teams, 4 seaters ships and the Scorpion.
  • Elite Dangerous Horizons 3.8 (and Console versions) :- We get Horizons as it is now (with the old planetary tech), which includes Galnet, any CGs that don't involve anything that will only work with the above option, and any critical patches to make sure the game still works with the backend.
  • Elite Dangerous :- The base game as it always is with no planetary landings and which includes Galnet and any CGs that don't involve anything that will only work in the above two options, and any critical patches to make sure the game still works with the backend.
  • Elite Dangerous Area :- The CQC only option (Is anyone still using this!)
and, as far as the narrative is concerned, update 13 will be the final update where 3.8 will get the same narrative content as Odyssey but for update 14 and beyond, if you want full access to the narrative, you'll need to use EDO or EDO-Lite.

Personally, I'm hoping that if you already have EDO, you don't get an additional EDO-lite client as well because that's even more space take up with my three separate accounts, but apart from that, I'm sure that's enough to keep most people happy right*?

*Runs for cover!!

No need for Elite base game, Horizons has been merged down quite a while ago. ;)

Maybe there will even be just two options: Legacy (3.8) and NewestEra (4.0). I don't see any reason why somebody who owns Odyssey would need to run Horizons 4.0. And a distinction between Odyssey and Horizons 4.0 could be done via license flags and doesn't need a separate launcher/client.

edit: Well, there would still be Arena... and the tutorial thingy. So I think there would still be four options in the launcher, just like now.
