Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

This is the issue when folks still cling to the past, Odyssey is not a failure, maybe you should try it?

O7
This is wrong on both lvls.

1) Compare opinions on both - E: D and Ody on Steam. Seeing this difference - it is as much failure as you can possibly imagine. If you wanted to make a template of failure to sink it in glass and put in Sevres - it would look exactly that.
2) Why should I try FPS, when I'm not looking for it? This is not a matter of past, present or future - it is the matter of genre. I played Elite II Frontier, because I wanted to play spacesim - not FPS. I played First Encounters, because I wanted to play spacesim - not FPS. I've played all those years E: D before Ody most premature ( :ROFLMAO: ) release, because I wanted to play spacesim - not FPS. If I wanted to play FPS - I had a lot of options before Ody was so-called released - and better done at that (which is not an achievement BTW). So nope, I'm not going to try it. This DLC has one problem that no amount of patches may fix - it is off topic.

Which for me at least presents an additional advantage for horizons players: They can play horizons in two different BGSs with two different cmdrs whereas Odyssey players can only play odyssey in one (live only) mode with one cmdr profile.
This clearly is one feature less for Odyssey owners.
You got it wrong.
Odyssey players can play EDH 3.8 already.
That's not going to change.
After u14 they also will have 2 separate CMDRs, one in 4.0 (the EDO & 4.0 EDH one) and one in 3.8. Those 2 are completely separate, as they exist in separate universes.

Its not an FPS game, look past it, there's so much more!
You seriously look at Steam reviews? take a closer look half are bots.

Whats more? There is nothing beside space legs there. There is so much more - but somehow nobody can give me examples.

As for steam reviews - so you claim that half of the POSITIVE reviews of E: D is made by bots? If you want to walk that path...... ¯\(ツ)

Furthermore, 3.8 galaxy and 4.0 galaxy will have separate BGS states that will diverge over time and become separate galaxies aka "servers".

Sorry if this has already been asked:
Will legacy mode be available for Odyssey?
If not (which is to be expected I am afraid) then this is bad (aka incomplete implementation of the splitting of the BGS).
PS: This is different to asking if odyssey players will have access to legacy mode. I understand they will have since they have access to 3.8 horizons mode already.

The question is: Will Odyssey CodeBase have legacy mode? i.e. will there be an E.D.O 4.0 Legacy mode? The answer is no. At least not for now.

Ah, you mean an EDO 3.8 with on foot content? No, this will never happen.

3.8 will also be its own galaxy after the update, so Odyssey owners cannot affect it with on foot content, but they will be on equal terms as non-Odyssey owners if they decide to play in 3.8.

3.8 will have everything, including CMDRs, separate from 4.0 after the update.

But yes, EDH4 and EDO will be in a shared galaxy but separately instanced due to PEGI.

As far as I yesterday heared (from a Cmdr who initiated transfer yesterday) FCs won't be migrated from 3.8 to 4.0 anyway
In the Console to PC transfer carriers did not transfer bc the carrier is uniquely tied to the original cmdr and is persistent across all game versions. your console and PC cmdr are separate accounts and therefore cannot share that ownership.
Once tuesday hits, any and all copies of a cmdr on 3.8 will keep their individual 3.8 carrier in "legacy" mode.
Any carrier owned by a cmdr capable of playing 4.0 will be duplicated into the "Live" server with their associated account because it's the same account. They are not just copying an account onto the same server this time but copying the entire server.
If carriers owned by 3.8 characters somehow are copied into "Live" they will eventually run out of credits and be decommissioned, but I suspect we'll see a big carrier cleanup as I imagine that any carrier on the new Live server that does NOT have an extant associated account will likely be deleted to "tidy up" the galaxy.

This is pure nonsense. Steam reviews have served me very well ever since I've switched from PS4 to PC. And Odyssey is the only game in my wishlist that has such a low review score. Why are these mythical bots only interested in destroying Frontier? Why aren't X4 or Space Engineers or RDO or ESO or any other of the games I play the target of the bots?

You're the bot IMO. Not in a literal sense, but in the practical beating of the "Buy Odyssey, it's objectively great!" drum in every post you make. I'd be tempted to believe that you work for Frontier, but no PR agent would be so obvious, LOL. I'm supposed to take your word over objective polling data (reviews) and other trusted sources? No, I don't think so.

Why Odyssey players can't instance with Horizons 4.0 players?

Essentially yes. If the Horizons player lands next to two of their Odyssey mates and watches through the windcsreen of an SRV as they shoot each other in the face then they could be traumatised for life (or at least for the next 9 years, assuming they were 7 at the time).
Most of which they will spend murdering 150 people a day in Fortnite.

This is the bit that I don't think FD have stated clearly and which I consider very unlikely. Why would they run two copies? What happens if Thargoids want to trash a station in one BGS but not the other? What if a CG in live results in upgrades to a station or a new station?

I think it's much more likely that there will be one BGS but maybe inf won't work in legacy.

I know that this isn't exactly what FD have said, but the things they have said are hard to piece together and it's the least-action route for them.

The way it is presented here suggests it wont:

Live Mode

As of Update 14, version 4.0 will become the “Live” mode in which all new content and events will be introduced.

Vs:

Legacy Mode

While “Live” will continue the unfolding events of Aftermath, we understand that some of our players have fond memories of the galaxy as it stands in 3.8 and as such we will convert version 3.8 into “Legacy Mode”.

Which for me at least presents an additional advantage for horizons players: They can play horizons in two different BGSs with two different cmdrs whereas Odyssey players can only play odyssey in one (live only) mode with one cmdr profile.

You do realise that Odyssey is written on codebase 4.0 right? Right?

As i said it goes both ways mate, seriously look at some of those reply's and tell me they are constructive reviews?
As with all platforms and i buy a lot off steam, you have to look deep to find the real reviews.
If you think a cookery recipe helps you buy EDO then crack on :ROFLMAO:

In Legacy, the Thargoids won't be doing anything that doesn't exist at the split.
I keep asking this question, but nobody has answered yet (I think it gets buried in these waterfall threads). The question is, how automated are Thargoids? I get the sense that their every move was manually orchestrated by Frontier, rather than behaving like a BGS faction that can "evolve" on its own over time. If this is the case, does that mean systems with Thargoids in them will forever be in that state, regardless of player actions, or is it possible to drive Thargoids out of the galaxy for good using BGS tactics (winning wars, killing 'goids) now that Frontier won't be manually sending in reenforcements?

If they wish to forever change the galaxy which is to be assumed in the wording here:

Aftermath will see its next major release with galaxy-wide implications in Update 14, with more to come in Updates 15 and 16. What we can say for now about Updates 15 and 16 is that they will both contain new content and gameplay mechanics linked to the unfolding events in the galaxy. More on this will be revealed next year.

they will have to, or 3.8 will be subject to gross anomalies because of it.

"Run" is very vague. If the question was do you need a €2000 PC to run Odyssey at 4k, Ultra and always stay above 60 FPS, the answer would probably still be nope.
Because even that PC couldn't do that.
We weren't even talking about Odyssey. 🤷‍♂️

Live Odyssey 4.0
Live Horizons 4.0
Legacy Horizons 3.8

= everything
