Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

Other than being able to select Horizons 4.0 officially I can't really see what benefit this is to 'Live' players, whereas to H3.8 players it appears to be a downgrade, losing access to community goals.
I'm pretty sure this is necessary to evolve the galaxy in a way that only makes sense in ED 4.0. Stargoids are just the tip of the iceburg of 4.0 exclusive content, and as more of the galaxy becomes 4.0 exclusive, the more it would be a disjointed, confusing mess for those playing in 3.8.

It really does make sense why they are separating the two galaxies. I just wish they would let someone, even the janitor, throw together simple CGs for the 3.8 servers. Hey Frontier, give me access to your 3.8 CG portal, I'd be happy to volunteer as CGM ;)

Thanks for fielding all of these questions, Bruce. I think it's about time we moved on.

Sorry if you've answered this already but: can Odyssey users please have access to Horizons 4.0 from the launcher? Now that 3.8 will become static, it seems pointless to work on anything there as it won't carry over.

Edit: NVM, you answered this already above. Odyssey users will have access to Horizons 4.0 (ie: "live). So, yessss! Thank you.

Not true. I cut it and get 6 items. Just did 2 days ago 5 times. Or shoot it and get 1 item.

Could you please clarify how do you manage to cut an uncuttable cargo rack like this one?

I will check another ones just to be sure that nothing has changed in the last hours but I'm having a hard time to understand in what basis you could affirm "Not true" out of an fact/evidence.

I only see the option to shoot it, maybe actually there is some way to cut them I just don't know about.
Thank you.

If you're stuck on foot you can still log in to Horizons version to get transported into the orbit in your ship - in Live mode, is my understanding. I think that was the person was asking about.

Not aware of any workarounds that would require relogging to 3.8 specifically.
Only one I end up using is trying to pay a fine when notorious. - just to be clear, a fine, not a bounty.

As you cannot pay a fine when notorious in odyssey but you can in horizons.

This thread is long, and I've not had the time to read it all, so apologies if someone else has asked this.

Console owned Fleet Carriers. Presumably they will be copied like everything else, so will be present both on Legacy and Live galaxies.

This means there'll be an FC on Live with no-one who even can control it. This might be a problem if they're in a popular/busy/bottleneck system as the only recourse to remove them would either be Frontier intervening or waiting for the wallet (possibly holding many years worth of upkeep) to drain, go into debt, and then the auto-decommission process to complete.

Do Frontier have any plans to address this issue? Is there really any reason to not just remove all Console-owned FCs from the Live galaxy ? Any console commander enabling themselves to play on PC in the Live galaxy would still have the transfer process available, right ?

Currently I play 3.8 when using VR because using VR in 4.0 atm is too laggy on anything below a 3080 and I cant afford a 3080 at the moment.
So... I used to run VR on a 1070 and while there were odd lags, I was getting 45FPS most of the time. However I then brought a 3080 to replace the 1070 and on Sunday there was maybe one instance of a 1-2 sec lag per play session. I really ought to check what FPS I'm now getting.
But ... the shadow flickering was there while hunting amongst the asteroids. It goes away if you look "up", or rotate the ship, but not ideal.

New players will have access to both Live and Legacy modes. Without Odyssey purchase, this means Horizons 4.0 (Live) and Horizons 3.8 (Legacy).

For a new player, having basically 2 different games with 2 different CMDR profiles... that would be a major source of confusion.
Hopefully the U14 game client will make it really clear to new players what is what.

Also, the minimum system requirements will really need to be updated for the Base Live Game (4.0) on Steam/Epic/Frontier
And updated with real numbers as expected fps on a given resolution/setting - currently 4.0 client (especially on-foot in stations, settlements and combat zones are really off for the minimum specs and quite far from the recommended specs)

I think finding a way to keep at least the BGS connected would be prudent, this split is going to double the workload for faction supporters.

They're basically 2 different games and people will need to chose what game they play.
I dont really see it possible for a single player to support a faction in both games now. The workload will double.

3.8 materials farming is dead now for 4.0 players.
