Update 14 and Beyond: Live and Legacy Modes

What about those who are stuck far away from the Bubble on FC?

The mining in Odyssey is very low right now, about more than double. So, it would take me about 12 hours in Horizons and 30 hours in Odyssey to refill 1000 tons of tritium.

To refill 25,000 tons of tritium would take 312 hours of uninterrupted play in Horizons and 716 hours in Odyssey, which is 13 and 30 days of uninterrupted play. Considering that I can at best go into the game for 3-4 hours a day, and sometimes a week, it's easier to write off the FC than to refuel it in Odyssey at the expense of mining.

Bring back mining as it was in U3.6

Even in Odyssey it takes me little over an hour to pull 250t of Tritium from an overlap. That's a quarter of the time you quoted. Hoping they will address the mining issues in U14, but it's far from undoable.

Unless, of course, I'm some kind of mining god. (hint: I'm far from it.)

I'd be very thankful if those of you in the "I'm abandoning my Legacy carrier" crowd (@Agony_Aunt ) would park those carriers in unpopulated systems before the Great Schism. I know I already said that earlier, but it seems to be a reoccurring theme in this thread. FWIW, I have done the same with my carrier for the sake of the Live Lads and Lasses.

Will this or future update reduce the travel time or credit grind or the Fleet carrier credit scam?
The time sinks and Hutton Orbital are no longer funny. I was a founder and early adopter but can no longer invest the time required to grind credits. Especially since many Cmdrs. are still buying credits illegally which still seems unresolved. You would think such activity would be easy to spot. Infact don't play any Frontier games even though I own them. They need to rethink their whole company strategy going forward, not blame the 'crowded market' duh there are other game and companies out there! They couldve made Elite produce some kid of cryptocurrency. Or focus on pure simulation market.

Yep, my carriers will be abandoning the Bubble as soon as they're fuelled.
Seems awkward at this point, I was planning to ride out the arrival of the Stargoids rather than flee the Bubble like panic stricken pigeons but there we go...🏃

with the possibility of using subsurface, surface and core on the same ship.

Yea, but the pwa is broken in 4.0 and out in the black chances to stumble over an overlap are small enough - which means people prefer to get tritium by subsurface mining, but they cannot, so they switch to 3.8 to do subsurface tritium mining.
And they do this since pwa got broken in U12.

Hopefully they will fix pwa in U14, but i'm not holding my breath over it.

I manage around the same, just mining Tritium rocks and grabbing (like you) the SSDs that may be present.
Although, TBF, I don't like mining much (apart from mat gathering) so have never really 'got gud' at it.

Yes, these are somewhat inflated figures, which I got after collecting tritium at the first hotspot I could find far away from the Bubble, but in general I wanted to show the differences in mining times for 3.8 и 4.0 versions.

If I have 25000 Arxes on my account - when the split happens will I be able to spend 25000 on live and still have 25000 on legacy?

LOL

New cosmetics will be available on both profiles as long as those cosmetics exist on both versions. I.e. you won't need to buy anything twice. In cases where the cosmetic only exists on Live, you won't have it on Legacy.

Fair enough.

With the PWA not working - I'd say there's a 3:2 ratio in the time it takes to get returns.

Part of the reason I've never taken my carrier out of range of the bubble is the fact I just can't work out how to mine Tritium well enough to keep it fueled.

I would, but that would involve installing the old version, and frankly speaking, i can't be .....

From the standpoint of Fdev this makes sense. If the BGS gets altered in U14 - as has been teased for quite some time now - and those changes are massive enough to need their own BGS version in order to work, then I am all for it. Sounds interesting and seems to the right thing to take the game forward. This also explains the real purpose of Horizons 4.0.

Yet I still want to know:

Are they suddenly feeling comfortable with how Odyssey performs on our systems?
Did they perhaps resolve some of the more glaring issues that were still present in Odyssey? (/s?)

I just hope that Odyssey can emit that Horizons feel at some point.
I got the feeling that update 11(?) was the last big performance based update and we'll only see tweaks to the system as and when they can make them. Right now they want to focus on narrative and content.

I would imagine it'll get better but it seems the right thing to assume that the performance you see now is going to be more or less how it stays.

But then what do I know? Next week could be the silver bullet for a few issues since they can properly focus on 4.0.

Maybe this is why the console transfer announcement was made now - they've been focusing on what can be improved now that they decided 4.0 will be separate. Maybe it's only late on that they've realised the 4.0 specific changes they want to make in this update scupper the transfer.

No it doesn't. The schism hasn't happened yet AFAIK. Whatever you do today in Odyssey should still also mirror over in 3.8. All I ask is that you leave your carrier in an unpopulated system (can be in the Bubble right next to Deciat if you want) until this schism takes place and the clone of your carrier is made in 3.8 that will never move again.

Either that or set the funds in your carrier bank to run out by the end of the year, and then put those funds back in after November 29th. That will allow your 3.8 carrier to decommission in early 2023 (in 3.8 only) which is probably an even better solution since you're never going back to Legacy.
