Well I was talking about it, when I mentioned needing €2,000 for a PC that will and is even allowed to run Odyssey, "Live" mode and 4.0 well, as "3.8" runs on lower power PCs, which you don't need if you're a console player!We weren't even talking about Odyssey.
Of course none of it would be necessary to run Odyssey, "live" mode and 4.0 at all if they'd properly optimised it for everybody and release it on "next gen" consoles!
In that case, there'd be no need for "legacy" mode at all!

Reading it back, I suppose the post you quoted could be interpreted as meaning that the last good decision FDev made about ED was to replace Sandro.
Honestly, I feel like Sandro was the last senior dev' who really cared about ED.
He had a lot of good ideas but he didn't seem to have the ability (for whatever reason) to get stuff done.
Since then, it's just been a conveyor-belt of corporate drones failing upwards, making the appropriate noises, and each doing their bit to erode ED's potential until they get replaced.
This is like telling flat earthers the earth isn't flat
It's just different, once you get used to it, it's fine. I'm not saying Odyssey's UI is the pinnacle of UI tech, but neither was Horizons..OMG - I find Odyssey outfitting a complete nightmare to use.

So not exactly unscheduled was it? Maybe you need to check in the right place and then you would have had 2 hours to wait for the stream to start.
P.S. None of the drops requires 2 hours do they? The longest I remember was 90 minutes. The Frontier-livestream drops just required 15 minutes. The campaign drops can be earned by watching certain other streamers (all about to change) so the timezone argument is not even remotely valid.

Allowed? There are fdev employees happily engaging casually in ED streams etc. But really, who in fdev wants to put themselves in front of ... this?
Surely it's the same and requires the same hardware as Odyssey when they're supposed to be the same codebase!
If people are having trouble running Odyssey properly, surely they're having trouble running Horizons 4.0 properly without super computer level hardware?!

4.0 is slower than 3.8, full stop.
However, 4.0 is slowest in content that doesn't exist on 3.8. If you don't have to deal with Odyssey surface settlements or station concourses, it's much easier to overlook the performance issues.
Why? ED didnt ended when Sandro left 4 years ago.
In December ED is getting in it's 9th year of operation.
It's still the most played Frontier Game.
It has quite a loyal fan base.
For an online game that requires no subscription and no microtransactions (it's actually offering free arx for playing the game), i'd say it does really good.
Indeed, since currently there is a single commander profile - so you cannot be logged with the same commander at the same time in both Odyssey and 3.8
After Update 14 the game will be split in 2 diverging games, with 2 different commander profiles, each tracked independently.
So you will be able to log in the same commander, at the same time, in both Odyssey and 3.8 - because it would be like playing 2 different games.
To support your expedition on both 3.8 and Odyssey, you'd basically have to play the game twice and do the exact same actions in 3.8 and then in Odyssey.
So you log in 3.8, jump your carrier to the next destination, then fill the tank to whatever local exploration, sell the data.
THen you have to do the very same things in Odyssey (since they'll be completely separated) - you need to jump your Odyssey carrier , refill its tank, do exploration, sell data, etc.
