Update 15, the Upcoming Feature Rework and More

Still not with you on this one, everything seems to be working as before, i can select the system, open system, select planet, view planet map, select POI and plot.
Or enter system and plot directly from Ody POIs on the left.
Not seeing owt different.

O7
Try selecting a planet base using the menu of planet bases rather than the steps you describe. That is supposed to be the shortcut.

How to remove legacy client from steam ?
It should indeed have switched to live by default on this update. No idea if it's an oversight or if it works.
Fairly straightforward to find out: backup and/or delete the legacy version and check if it downloads it again.
IDR the exact folder name RN, just make sure it's not the \elite-dangerous-odyssey-64\ or \elite-dangerous-64\ folder.

I think.

Hope that makes sense otherwise just ask.

I have removed legacy thru launcher and verified files and steam happily downloaded legacy again.
legacy client is in \elite-dangerous-64\ folder.

Okay i'm fairly sure that'll be a prompt hotfix. (otherwise might want to point it out in the patch thread)

Does Steam still download Legacy by default? I thought they switched it over to Live, with Legacy being optional now. Or is that only when buying directly from Frontier?
To summarise the other replies:
  • U15 has Live as the default for a new player - so there's no danger now of a n00b ending up in Legacy
  • You can still choose either one manually with the unreasonably small menu
  • Steam "downloads both" which really means they have Steam configured to just download "everything", and then Frontier's janky updater does the rest
  • If you delete the copy of Legacy that you will never use... Frontier puts it back. You didn't need that space on your SSD anyway.

The issue with having no Fed aligned Feudals or Patronages is one that is unique to Hudson territory AFAIK. It is frustrating to have to fight against other Fed aligned factions but it does at least help to promote variety in Hudson space controlling factions. Any Hudson doesn't need can be anything & often are.

A little role play, scene: Using new crew member for first time in a conflict zone.

Navy jock enter the room, brand new uniform, ready for action.
Me: ARE YOU READY TO GO TO WAR FOR HUSDON?
Navy jock: SIR, YES SIR! Let's go fight for the Federation.
Me: Yes, fight for Hudson, blow up the federation ships!
Navy jock: SIR, YES... Sir? You said kill Federation ships?
Me: Yes! Fight for Zachary Hudson, the federal power, go blow up some federal ships.
Navy jock: Ehhh, are you sure???
Navy jock: ... SIR?
Me: Sigh... Just go out and blow up those federal ships, follow my lead - no questions asked, OK?
Navy jock: Sure, whatever... sir...

Navy jock wanders out to find his seat close to the fighter bay, trying to figure out what just happened.

I have joined space conflict zones, put my ship in front of a Cmdr on the opposing side & persuaded them to exit, rejoin & wing up with me to support a feudal a few times. I've done the same when supporting anarchies too.

Most cmdrs don't have a vested interest in the specific war, they just pick whichever side they want, and generally cmdrs will choose a fed aligned corp or democracy over a feudal. They'll choose feudal over anarchy though.

So try talking to your opposition if you see them, explain the bigger picture (that feudals help Hudson) and maybe you can gain an ally :)

I've never pledged btw, just like to keep the peace. One of my current projects is to give stations to a local anarchy then take them up to the controlling feudal to consolidate system control with an easy win for the feudal.

Random cmdrs often don't care about wars that aren't for system control, I guess they don't show up on the galaxy map filter. So using an anarchy faction for the 'minor' wars is pretty easy then the feudal Vs anarchy war for system control practically wins itself ;)

Steam "downloads both" [...]
:(

Bad news for us who are in rural America where Internet sucks.

If you delete the copy of Legacy that you will never use... Frontier puts it back. You didn't need that space on your SSD anyway.
But I do need that space!

Once again, I strongly recommend Frontier consider separating Live and Legacy on Steam itself, offering them as the two separate games they actually are, and allowing players to choose the one they want before purchasing & downloading. I've never seen such sloppy handling of an "upgrade" as I have the transition from ED 3.8 to 4.0. The closest thing that comes to mind is Minecraft after Microsoft bought it, but even that doesn't force you to download the Java version if you choose the native Windows version by default. /r

Random commanders don't care, no. But for everyone involved in BGS and Power Play, the lack of a red line between all parts of the superpowers, powers and factions, ruins almost all potential that could be. More important, everyone involved in such activities are the players that will return to the universe. But a lot has left entirely or started doing other more random stuff that don't need such dedication. All I hear every time I mention this lack of connection to others, I always get the same raply. This is just "kicking the same, dead horse again". To me that fact, the lack of red line is a statement that says "we don't listen to our core players". Those players are the ones that would make the galaxy live and dynamic, with allianses of squadrons and their player factions.

Microsoft at least know how to handle multiple games in one package just look at MCC primary depot is the launcher and all 6 games are treated as dlc with separate depots and you can install what you want. I really wish Frontier can do the same with live/legacy.

Unlike Odyssey players, I had to make space and download 50GB just so I could continue playing Legacy and remove the Live package to regain SSD space. And it's on the LTE internet with a monthly data limit. If I have to do this with every patch, I'll throw the whole thing in the trash. There was life before Elite, and there will be life after Elite, one less game isn't the end of the world (which is a shame because it's really good).

Major Feature Rework
Last year we announced a major update that would rework a long standing feature. This is still being investigated, however a number of changes (not least the Thargoid War itself) have required our attention as a priority. We will share details of this investigation and our plans towards the end of this year.
Can't wait :)

The next chapter in the book of Thargoid retaliation and or galactic domination, confirmation to the mysterious crashed decomposing Thargoid: Titan mothership, finally lettings loose the Glave ship, and the on-foot Revenant drones aside, the QoL life changes are great. Especially the correcting the wingman Nav-Lock issue, and the stacking of Fleet Carrier icons in the System Map.

I've been out of town and away from gaming computer. Can hardly wait to go check out one of the Titans

So, which part of Update 15 is considered a part of "Major Feature Rework"?
I only see the added content for AX and bug fixes here and there.
