So many toes…
Where? Oh, you mean literally, as in the size of the Titans. You missed "Frontier bad". We just got a huge content dump, [...]
I have a different angle on the doom. It's clear to me that Frontier is trying very hard to fix Odyssey. What concerns me more than them not trying is them trying and not succeeding.. That means things are pretty messed up under the hood.
Of course "not succeeding" is subjective, as some are now getting acceptable performance (for them) and are happy with things like lighting, antialiasing, LOD, terrain tech, etc.
You are responding to a post of mine made over a year ago. I do think Elite has improved in some notable ways since then. However, I do agree with the overall sentiment of what you are saying. Elite reminds me very much of another MVP MMO - Red Dead Online. Like Elite, it takes place in an amazing setting and has some fun (yet also simplistic) gameloops, but also feels very much abandoned compared to other MMOs I play. In fact, I'll give Elite the better score over RDO when it comes to content updates and general attention. Still, I cannot help but see the similarities.Elite is a huge game after 8 years, almost 9. It should have a few dozens regular devs occupied with content, QA and potentionally some cosmetics.
However, what we have now are lackluster storytelling with an exceedingly slow pace (reminder: Thargoid story started like 4 years ago or so, depending on when you declare the start).
All other aspects like game balancing, new content like ships or modules or endgame activities (last ship addition was back in 2018, that's 5 years ago) are conviniently ignored.
The game hasn't changed much during the past half decade while at the same time Elite is in dire need of repair. Neglentance of simple bugfixing and improvements has negatively impacted the quality of Elite. Some major issues from the issue tracker, which are top voted and acknowledged, have still not received even an attempt of a fix since 2020 or so (namely low FPS in EDO content while not using system resources to its full potential).
From a purely subjective, personal-opinion perspective, I agree that 4.0 is in a "terrible state". Objectively, I it's harder to make that claim because it still obviously has a very loyal core following, and it is getting some decent updates. As to your question why, again I think about RDO, which I feel could be an absolute hit if it were given the proper attention. Most fans of that game and followers of Rockstar claim that the company puts all its focus on GTA5 online because that's where the money is. I do feel like Frontier has done similar, except that instead of focusing on a "golden goose", they are flooding the market with a dozen versions of their theme park games (PC, PZ, JWE123) and now their race car games, with the hopes that these might be golden gooses. As for who is to blame, any time I express my thought on this I get banned from the forum for ages, so best not go there. The only real thing I am really expecting from FDev these days is them admitting to failure and explain why things didn't work out. Most of us assume it's mismanagement but there might be more to it. Would it be useful to know? Probably not but it certainly would be interesting to understand why Elite is in such a terrible state right now.
Not even if they added space whales to gas giants?I saw what the modding community did with Skyrim, wouldn't let them within 65k LYs of this game if it was up to me.
O7
As a mod I protest against such statements!we all know what type of mods would flood the market if we let Skyrim modders loose

Not to mention dropping console like a hot potatoI wouldn't consider it "trying" if it feels like they only have like 1 intern working on it.

Now all this is interesting and common knowledge and such but why am I telling this? Because this interesting common knowledge didn't originate from FDev but the community.
As if FDev would ever admit its own errors in a way most of the community would believe them. And even if they did, I highly doubt they'd actually introduce mechanicsm to improve their procedures so similar incidents won't happen again.
To this day I am awaiting the promised dev updates that have been put "on hold" since the 2.0 Horizons release.
Or the Icarus cup that most of you don't even know about (The Icarus Cup was a FDev hosted event centered around PvP but never took place for reasons that to this date are unknown due to lack of communication).
FDev has no value to their words, even the patch notes are incomplete. The only reliable way to find out what FDev is doing is await some kind of update and find out what they changed for the better or worse yourself through extensive testing, aka doing the work FDev is supposed to do themselves.
And shall I encounter an issue while conducting such tests I will refrain from reporting as I do not wish to overwhelm FDev with further issues as issues from 2020 are not yet fixed.
The only real thing I am really expecting from FDev these days is them admitting to failure and explain why things didn't work out. Most of us assume it's mismanagement but there might be more to it. It was the complete opposite of 'dropping like a hot potato" as that implies dropping as quickly as possible. They clearly did not want to do it and tried to for a year to get performance to a level where it would work on consoles. Not to mention dropping console like a hot potato
Strictly speaking a tête-à -tête with Aisling wouldn't get you anywhere near the tootsiesI'd still want a tête-à -tête with Aisling, those feet..![]()

To be truthful I don't think it was even a year, personally it was 6 months at bestIt was the complete opposite of 'dropping like a hot potato" as that implies dropping as quickly as possible. What I mean is they tried for a year to get the pc version performance to a level where it would then be able to work on consoles, but it just wasn't happening. I'm not saying they spent a year fiddling with a console port, pretty sure even the official line at the time was development was stopped early on after EDO pc release so they could work on performance on pc first. To be truthful I don't think it was even a year, personally it was 6 months at best
and that was with minimal effort EDO had as DB said "connectivity issues " on PC ?
There was no effort for next gen from the begining, unlike many other games released .
Can you imagine the state of EDO with only 6 months ( not the 2 + years) for PC ?? But this is just my take on it .
But why not ? ( A general question not aimed at yourself )You're right the next gen consoles were largely irrelevant, but it seems it was because fdev wouldn't be allowed to jump straight to those and leave the older consoles with active players behind.
