Update on Communication

Greetings Commanders,

I want to speak directly about the lack of official streams and reduced communications from our social channels since the start of 2022. I understand the concerns this has caused and hope this statement goes some way to alleviate them.

The whole team are excited to share all of the upcoming content for this year including new updates, content expansions and the next major phase in the ongoing narrative following the Azimuth Saga finale. Beyond this, we also look forward to sharing our new streaming format when the series returns as a weekly show. Changes will include new segments, year-round Twitch Drop campaigns and studio-quality production once we move back into the office.

However, there are several questions that must be answered internally to inform this communication plan. It is important to me that we address key subjects by priority and when we do that the information we provide is clear. The team and I are working incredibly hard behind the scenes to gather this information and provide these answers.

As always, the team and I are grateful for your patience and support while we wait for the opportunity to share all of the above with you. We will update you with more detail as soon as we can.

See you in the black o7.

-Arf
Bit vague, but I'm patient. Looking forward to the streams again.

And I do believe I recognised Arf's dulcet tone narrating the Chaos Gate preorder trailer.....so there clearly have been some other responsibilities in the background.

I really don't understand why FD always seem deathly scared of saying anything.

Just don't do anything stupid, like blaming the players for delays.
because (like what happened with Horizons Roadmap) people say that certain features were 'promised' when they only indicated that they'd like to take the game in a certain direction. For example, the quote about how the ships are designed with the hope you'll be able to walk around them one day, which suddenly turned into a complaint that we were promised 'ship interiors' when Odyssey launched.

I mean, if I had their job, I'd be pretty cagey about saying anything unless I was sure of it too. They're stuck between a managerial team whose strategy seems to be "don't give any information until the update has already gone live, ever" and a community whose requests are "give us exacting details and accurate timelines about all of these demands immediately, and then hold to them perfectly or we will scream". That's a tough gig.

sorry to be this direct, but between anounced posts that are supposed to build up hype but in the end never materialise, and the horrible bug regressions with every single patch,
this company looks everything but professional.
i really think you want to make this game great, but i´m not so sure if you are even able to.
i´m really sorry for the negativity, as this is clearly not a single persons fault but a company wide problem.
but let´s be honest, that makes it even worse.

Calling a "two-month update schedule" after EDO release a "roadmap"... because that road was more of a very short dead-end alley 🤔

Maybe it actually was... they hit the wall and lost the map... time to upgrade and use GPS. :p

I have to ask, and I hope you understand this is frustration talking, but what are you and the other ED focused CMs actually doing for 8 hours a day if you are not engaging with the community? It can't be all sitting in meetings!
Just going off what Arf said:
  • Commercial and tech discussions with Twitch in order to set up the TwitchDrops events.
  • Working up a schedule of weekly streams including their topics, guests and any surrounding events.
  • Setting back up their main office studio for streaming after a long period of streaming from home
  • Developing the new phase of narrative with the writing team and liaising with the dev team for any specific in game related impact or dev work necessary
  • Sitting with the dev team to get an understanding on what will be coming to Elite in terms of content, updates (performance improvements, issue tracker etc) in the coming months/year, so to plan any related comm campaigns
All that just based on the post from Arf. Pretty sure there are tons more behind the scenes we are just not privy to.

You seem to miss the main one:
  • Arf is still in charge and didn't leave the sinking ship company
😜

Sometimes people can be completely wrong, sometimes they can be partially wrong. Frontier did indicate ships would be designed with interiors in mind, they didn't say they were coming in Odyssey.

With respect, the paragraphs, whilst beautifully formed, are lacking in real information and appear to be sidestepping the questions that have been asked since December last year by the members of the forum.

Has the 'new era' of communication been shelved? Is ED and its expansions actually 'doomed' as is being bandied around? Read around Arf, the children are nervous!
Damned if they do, damned if they don't huh!. 🤷‍♀️

Where do y'all get this media training? Start speaking like normal people, please. It's just contradiction after contradiction.

Thanks for the info. Now that we know what is going on, we can lean back and wait.
But next time, please publish such information earlier, not after over a month of silence and multiple discussion and rumors about the reason why there is no communication.
It could be that this post just got lost in time and was supposed to be published in on 9th January (not February), when lack of communication became evident. I can only guess what else we could miss during this time - Dev Update, roadmap and maybe even console release announcement 😜
