Update on Communication

There doesn't seem to be much to say.
The future of Horizons (does it stay as-is like on console or does it become Odyssey Lite as originally planned) warrants an update from Frontier. This impacts both Horizons and Odyssey players in a significant way, and some will argue it preempts other plans like the oft-mentioned unfolding story.

By the time we get a "real" update from Fdev we will have made first contact and engaged in our own Thargoid war :alien: and by "real" I mean not the below!

Soon
Maybe
We are looking into it
many improvements
Not to be addressed at this time (usually followed with the same answer 4 years later)
Silence
Silence
500 word posts of nothingness
More silence
Dev stream coming soon (Devs dont talk about the game at all)
Community stream where we answer your questions (carefully selected questions and still not an answer)
Silence
Bug fix list (Most not fixed and even more added to things not even related to those bugs...oh and silent nerfs nobody wanted)
Silence
back dated plans
Silence
Cancellations of items not even started
Silence for 3 years
Relook into issue tracker (This one is hilariously broken)
Forgot bout issue tracker
Silence
Forever silence

You guys need to revile something soo other wise the community will leave before you realise what ever it is
Even if its buggy and broken just a here's what we have been doing the past few years sorta thing
Just show us you arnt just sat there with 3 ppl doing the updates and everyone else just sat there eating up money from the vr mini booms the comunty has had from ytbers like upisnotjump
Show us we have something to look forward to
We working on it won't suffice after oddicy we can't trust that you will realise a full well made product anymore we need some sort of proof
Please try and remember that you are only speaking for that portion of the community that agrees with everything you say and word you posts that way.

Some of the community might leave.
Some of us can't trust that you will realise ...

I just joined the community this month all I see on yt is elite is dead, why elite died , rip elite , why I'm leaving elite
It seems like most of the big ttbers left in the past few years
I'm just saying what I've seen as a new fan it realy dosnt seem like a good community and EDdev don't seem to be doing much to stem the leak of ppl leaveing
I have played the game and been on the forums for six years and on the whole the feel of the forum hasn’t changed significantly.
Some of the people who have rage quit have actually gone others are still here, which bit of the forums you read can also affect your opinion of the community, News and Dangerous discussions are often toxically depressing, other areas are much more pleasant.

I always try to keep in mind that the posters on a forum are a minority of those who read it and that those who read it are a minority of the people that play the game.

I've been here 3+ years and I have the same impression.

Some persist in claiming that the game is dead, others that it's so broken that they can't play it, others that they like it and it's not dead.. It's really just a few people that makes this such a toxic place.

One sad truth is that FDev seem to only communicate the absolute minimum (or nothing) until they have something new to present to us. I can't say that I agree with this practice, but it is what it is and I suppose they have their reasons for it.

IMO, if you like the game play it, and worry about tomorrow, tomorrow.

A few of us can remember when the forums weren't any trouble, because there was no-one here. Occasionally people would drop in to see if there was any news on a new Elite.

So full circle, we're back to waiting for news on Elite without being absolutely sure when and if any is coming.

Bear in mind that most of those are monetising their channels and so looking to maximise views via new games and shock-horror slasher sensationalism.

Regarding "doom™" - it is worth noting that there are many of us on here still playing a computer game after 7 (or more) years. No, it isn't dead, not even pining for the fjords.

There may be a split in perception on this.

For those of us who started their game playing careers with titles that were released and never updated, a game is not dead if it is still playable. For those who have begun their game playing careers in the era where games are released and then updated over time, there appears to be a perception that a game is dead if it is not continuously updated in some manner.

The situation is further complicated if part of a game has a running cost that need to be continuously funded. If there is a feeling that there is insufficient funding being generated, then there is a perception the game is dead (or dying) because it's not making enough income.

FD is the only studio I know that has a bunch of community managers employed who work 'incredibly hard behind the scenes' for months on end with virtually no interaction with the community. Other studios typically have community managers also work in front of the scenes. Given that there has been a constant negative or even hostile feeling on the forums since launch despite people enjoying the game itself suggests that the approach FD takes has not ever worked once. Maybe that is why everyone else tries the normal approach.

If I were a new gamer looking for a space game I'd give EDO a pass because it indeed looks like the game is dying and FD doesnt care the slightest about it. Even studios that truly dont care manage to look more engaged and passionate with even a modicum of time investment. Why this is so hard for FD is a mystery to this ape.

Where did Frontier announce a further 12 updates? 😝
Oh, have the Doom Threads only just started then? The doomsayers have been moaning on about FDev "not doing anything" since well before the start of this year, and certainly since Christmas with the lack of comms from the company for a few months. And yet they are still releasing updates, update 12 hasn't even "dropped" yet.

I have a different angle on the doom. It's clear to me that Frontier is trying very hard to fix Odyssey. What concerns me more than them not trying is them trying and not succeeding.. That means things are pretty messed up under the hood.

Of course "not succeeding" is subjective, as some are now getting acceptable performance (for them) and are happy with things like lighting, antialiasing, LOD, terrain tech, etc.

As someone getting excited for the next Star Citizen free fly, I suggest Frontier consider something similar, as there are at least a few of us not willing to throw money at Odyssey without testing it on our systems first.
