User carrier megaship concept

Kia ora,

Here's a concept for a carrier megaship I've spent the last wee while working on in Sketchup. Still very much WIP....

I find the existing carrier megaship a little blocky so figured I'd have a go at making my own, sleeker design.






I can't quite work out what the scale should be but I've got a Cobra alongside to give a basic sense.

 
Looks good.

As for the size and what you could change is that you could go bigger -as megaships in Elite are truly 'mega'- (maybe 20% to 40% bigger) and it could use a few more landing pads.

But so far, good work.
 
Can’t swear on these forums but damn! That is a ******g fantastic ship.
It feels huge and industrial/military.
Would love to see something like it in game.

That middle part rotates, yes?

Did you know that with the rotating section there, that the pitch and jaw thruster are messed up in a way that you need to use the vertical thrusters to yaw ?
(something for Scot manley to explain)

one critizism about the landing bays though:
in ED all hangars slide away from the actual landing pad along the long side.
your pad layout for the large ones doesn't seem to incorporate that baseline that every dockable structure in ED has integrated for obvious reasons.

Huh, no I had no idea. Although I doubt it's something ED deals with in it's in-game physics.

I don't think that's true for the outposts, they just go straight up and down. In any case I'm not worrying too much about the details with this model. It's very much at concept stage and I wasn't planning on getting those kinds of details right at this stage in case I want to make major changes.
