now that's a pretty cool story to a permanent username. like the thinking behind the name Grey as it makes sense, though you probably took the colour grey to the extreme for everything else

Much of it is down to laziness. "Which toothbrush shall I get? Oh, there's a grey one, I'll have that..." Makes decisions very easy

I saw Queeg and Backwards incase anyone is wondering which episodes.

yup, AndyB(Elite Dangerous Backer £50) my original pledge amount - long since exceeded.

Queeg was awesome as most of it was filmed in studio, Backwards more monitor work but still some studio shots, especially the famous reverse brothers they filmed it forwards then played it backwards so you would see how it looked it was VERY confusing but also very funny as most of the actors and extras they brought in for the day had NO idea what was going on most of the time either............

Mine is simply taken from the character Clint Eastwood plays, the man with no name, and hence The lone Gunman in the "Dollars Trilogy" (A Fistful of Dollars, For a Few Dollars More, and The Good, the Bad and the Ugly.

Have used the same name and Avatar(pic more for my music tastes) for many years in online gaming and other forum boards.

Hi everyone.
I am Dobrij Zmej. This can translate from Russian "Friendly Dragon".
Avatar, which I always use, fully conveys the nature of my character.

I live in Ukraine, but I prefer to speak in Russian.
Unfortunately, I did not have time to save up enough money to join the project on Kickstarter, but I have corrected the mistake, and now I am a member of the PBF and second round private beta test =)

I want to wish all pilots await precisely the Elite, what they think. And developers - writing programs from the heart. And good luck to all !

I used Wolfwood (translation of my Finnish last name) for a long time before I stumbled onto a forum that required real names. After that, I've quite often used my real name.

Oh, and before those two, I've used several different names, most of which I cannot even recall nowadays... Rapier was one of them at least...

Oh2: Susimetsa is not my original name, however. I changed it before my marriage for various reasons.

Many years ago I started an online diary/blog and did not want to use my real name. At the time I was quite impressed with the Flashheart character in Blackadder with his very accurate portrayal of the "jump off the cliff, think about it later" mindset of the RAF aircrew I was working with at the time.

In my mind Bingo Brewster sounded like a "Boys Own" kind of name for this kind of gungho character. It stuck and I've been Bingo Brewster ever since

I started playing Elite Plus again in 1998 and having just watched Withnail & I (and also still being in student mode) used Withnail as my commander name.

The name stuck and I have used it ever since, even though I am a bit more sensible now.

Was thinking about about my forum presence (or rather lack thereof) the other day.

In the late 80's I used the 900 column in the Loot paper. It was right at the back after the personals and was designed for miscellaneous stuff but people started using it as a comedy bulletin board. You had to fax your posts in (max of three per day)

On there I was Chameleon - I chose that after the description of the Jason Bourne character (quite different and a bit older in the book than the way he was portrayed in the films) in The Bourne Identity by Robert Ludlum which was my favourite thriller/airport holiday blockbuster at that time.

And sometimes I do tend to fade into the background so it kind of suits one of my character traits.

For some reason when I registered here I used my first name and surname initial - anyway I just registered Chameleon so maybe I'll switch to that and get me a proper avatar..

Nicodemus really became my on screen name when I started playing Dark Age of Camelot all those many moons ago. I initially wanted to use another name in DAoC but it was taken so I sat and ummed and ahhed for a bit until I remembered the Secret of Nimh film and a character called Nicodemus (who just happened to be the leader of the rats).

The name wasn't taken so I started to play the game, after a few weeks we found that there was a forum for the game and to identify myself I registered as Nicodemus. Since then I've played most games as Nicodemus and used it as my forum name too.

Elite, however, wouldn't let me use Nicodemus as my character name, so although my forum ID is this I'll be flying around under the name Malenti.

I roleplayed a character called Simon Drake some years ago, who is my all-time favourite character. Not because of anything I did, but because the GM gave him an awesome plotline in the game.

I was fed up using Decker as my internet name (a reference to Shadowrun, NOT Star Trek) and Drake was pretty common, so being a fan of Russian I looked up "male duck" in Russian and found Selezen. Which has a Z in it. Which is cool.

The character name I chose, Selezen Lake, is the name of a real place in Russia too. English translation is obviously Drake Lake. Which rhymes. Which is cool.

I actually think I made it up when browsing ship names - I think JABOATAO was what started it... some place in Brazil I see, now that I search for it!

Shadowman is a throwback to one of my favourite games. It was very dark and kinda shrivels your soul, but was a really good game. I especially liked the fact you shoot wraiths instead of bullets and enemies kinda do a possession thing like in the film Ghost with the demons (before exploding).

I created Ocrinox in 2004 as a name for my WoW beta test character and used it ever since. I wanted something unique, so I Googled it to make sure there were no matches and just kept using it.

yeah i remember Shadowman for the playstation back in 99. it was a different game ill give it that.

also probably a good idea when choosing a name to use google. for several reasons.. though I dont remember google being around to help when i chose mine.

it was a dark time when search providers were battlling it out between themselves and many search providers didnt make it.

I do a little photography and bokeh are the beautiful out of focus shapes that you get when you use depth of field to focus on a subject and have the background out of focus (3rd, 4th and 5th pics here are stunning):

<Offtopic> I'd vaguely heard of TnS for taking pics of architecture, but I can see what you mean - you can put foreground and background OOF and get the subject focussed. </Offtopic>
