Using AI for Colonization and BGS Help

Copilot after I tried to insist that, yes, Elite Dangerous does in fact have colonization.

That's really odd. I asked Copilot yesterday to give me basic tips on how to start a colony in Elite Dangerous yesterday and it gave me a fairly straightforward guide. No arguments on whether colonization in ED is real or not 🤔

I was last asking copilot about Colonization in December when it tried to tell me it didn't exist and insisted I just felt like I was colonizing and was mislead by the "confusing" writing style of the Galnet articles.

I took a break from the game for a while and only recently asked it about Colonization again, specifically telling it to search the forums and it hasn't told me it didn't exist. So either copilot has improved or searching the forums helped.

It has recently assumed non existent buildings existed and suggested I build some structure that doesn't exist. Or suggested I build an extraction economy near my refinery economy to funnel NPC miners to my system to foster a strong economy. So it is hit or miss on helpfulness.

Oh no doubt about that, anything more complicated than really basic stuff and it's a roll of the dice on whether what it's saying is true or not.

"I understand why it feels like colonization exists in elite. This confuses many players, but what you experienced is actually a CG where it felt like you were colonizing and creating new systems but it was actually just a story told by FDev on Galnet."

Not sure if it works with Gemini, but tell it to search the frontier forums and the colonization guide and summarize the info about what you want to know. Has a moderate chance of having mostly accurate information but making assumptions about non existent structures you can build.

But overall useful for finding links to sources you can read to get the real info.

Gemini basically gave the same answer after I insisted that colonization does exist in Elite Dangerous. Or to be more precise, the first time that I corrected it, it said that it was wrong and I was right and that colonization is indeed a feature that exists in Elite Dangerous nowadays. But when I proceded to ask more questions about colonization it reverted back to its original answer and kep insisting that colonization doesn't exist and that it was halucinating when it said that colonization does exist. And it very stubornly stuck to its position no matter what I said.

AI is not reliable, any reliable AI with tell you that.

Indeed. Whenever I have a discussion about AI, I like to show this screenshot. I asked Gemini if the car on the photo was correctly parked and Gemini replied by saying that the car was parked neatly between the lines. 😂

If a person had answered with that, I would have accused them of evading the question.

To be precise, the exact answer it gave was: "Yes, certainly! The car, a silver coloured Volkswagen, is parked neatly between the white lines on the parking place."

So it didn't evade the question, it just went out of its way to enthusiastically state that the car was parked perfectly. 😄

This is the reply I got when I literally asked the same question.
You didn't show your original question, but I suspect it didn't contain the word 'colonisation' as the AI doesn't mention it. It seems to be answering the question 'can players claim systems or build their own space stations'.

I didn't include my original question, because I thought that was irrelevant. I figured the insistence of Gemini that it thinks colonization doesn't exist is clear enough. I literally asked for tips for colonization. Why on earth would I ask a very convoluted question when I can just ask a very simple question?

It could be interpreted as it insisting that you can't claim or build in existing systems. It just needed a little help to make the link to colonisation. You need to nudge it sometimes.

It's very possible to remove the AI guff appearing at the top of your Google search.
I have, saves me half a screen of wasted space every search

All this actually does is default Google to the Web tab rather than that damnable AI Mode tab, but for your viewing pleasure …

Three dots (top right) in Chrome
Settings
Search Engine
Manage search engines and site search
Scroll down to Site Search and Add

Name: Whatever you like but include Google. Including Google seems to keep the entry out of the 'Additional sites' section (I use Good Google)
Shortcut: Whatever you like, prefix with @ (I use @clean)
URL:{google:baseURL}search?q=%s&udm=14

Then click the three dots next to your new entry and Make default from the dropdown.

Fill yer boots searching Old Skool :)

I literally asked for tips for colonization in Elite Dangerous. When I nudged it after it gave me a wrong answer it only kept insisting that colonization doesn't exist in Elite Dangerous. I asked it a few months ago and since I cannot travel back in time I'm not able to make a screenshot of the original question and the rest of the conversation.

I'm beginning to see a pattern here. Apparently, neither Gemini or CoPilot were aware that colonization existed in ED some months back.

I guess they're both pretty much updated now - rightly or wrongly 😁

Looks like it. I just tried Gemini again and now I get the same answer as @BigTed.
Though still a bit weird that it thought colonization didn't exist a year after it was implemented, but now a couple of months later it finally does know about it.
