Using Self-Destruct as a lethal weapon

Yeah, this proposal is going right in the same bin as "why can't we have nuclear missiles in game" and other such ill-conceived nonsense.

If you really want asymmetric defensive weaponry, actually think for a bit about how to structure it so it doesn't just become the new station ramming. Maybe you could think of a way to make mines more effective, something along those lines?

Such an ultimate weapon should come with proportionally big downside.
No rebuy option, just CMDR reset if you use the device.

How on earth do you get destroyed in a Vulture by a gankaconda?
I'm pretty sure I'd die to any veteran in a G5 conda given my in-game time is about 5 days - I'm willing to give it a go though! 😜

Hence the conceived scenario is eminently possible but I don't believe the OP's suggested self-destruct mechanics would be good gameplay at all. However, I would like self-destruct - indeed any major explosion - to cause significant damage to ships, structures etc within a specified radius.

But let's face it, Frontier are pretty unlikely to implement anything like this in the foreseeable future given that we can smash into the station landing towers at 500 m/s & casually bounce back to the pad for a cool landing without so much as a scratch on the tower...or for that matter, a warning or fine for reckless flying.

Half-bottomed game is half-bottomed I'm afraid.

This takes the term suicidewinder to a whole new level. If it would be implemented the forum would explode with new "Oh my god, my ship just exploded and I don't know why, gankers bad" threats.

You don't know me well (I'm the one flying the Vulture of course)
I mean, yes of course you can get destroyed by a conda in a vulture, but the self-destruct idea is bad.
But the videos of reversals, vultures ganking the condas, are hilarious.

I hate vultures in CZs with elite NPCs. I can only imagine the hell of having two or three buzzing around you RG or PCing you to death in player hands.

It certainly is, BUT, if you can do it so can the gankers. Guess who is going to be more determined and more ruthless in their use of that feature?

I was talking about the gankers. The salt harvest would be epic.

"Guess who is going to be more determined and more ruthless in their use of that feature" - My point exactly. Internet autists with nothing else to do will find every way possible to exploit this ability while we casuals get blown up anywhere a crowd exists for YouTube views. It's a terrible idea, but it would still be funny as hell.
