USS signal sources - is it just me?

Since the update I am having great difficulty finding suitable USS signal sources to obtain mats I am seeking, especially the Military Supercapacitors. I am almost nostalgic for the old way of flying around for ages waiting (maybe patiently) for them to pop up.

I know the BGS got reset or something, and it's supposed to take some time for them to regenerate, but really the current situation is just absurd. I'm trying to complete an engineering build on a brand new Krait and I am wasting hours looking for HGEs all over the damn place.

Is it just I haven't fully got to grips with the new exploration tools? I have succeeded in finding out how to switch modes and do the old Disco honk... been in a bunch of systems now where you might get a list of 10 or so USS to work through, but they're all Ceremonial Comms, Convoy Dispersal, etc etc

I think I have found 2 HGEs since the update and they were just CDC and Propietary Comps.

Often I have been flying through systems without seeing a single USS, even in places like Sol and Achenar. I will now and then see the old message "Unidentified Signal source detected" appear at the top right of the HUD display, but when I switch to the Nav Panel, there isn't one to be found... anywhere.

Elsewhere on the forum I have seen folk saying how they are now using the new system to collect 100 Imperial Shielding or whatever... damned if I know how. I would be glad to know, as maybe, (just maybe), the goddamned material trader might exchange a few of those for what I need, (although that never seems to be a given either.)

Advice, suggestions or feedback appreciated.

Best way to uncover all the USS's in the system is to use the FSS. Just tune all the way to the left and you can identify the USS's quickly. Lots of encoded everywhere. The system states haven't quite caught up with their usual abundance, so I think until next week there will be shortages of certain materials, more than usual.

Sadly, it may be you. You can still wander around waiting for them, just be quick to throttle down and look for them when you get a message - they'll be somewhere infront(ish). As for the BGS reset, yes that has affected what you might encounter, until things start to resettle and are more predictable. On that note, are you following the basic guidelines for alliance:economy:state to find HGEs - like Federation + None = CDC & PropComp? If not, why not? For now, head to Fed-None and load up on those CDCs and trade them. Once you get used to the FSS it is fantastic for finding HGEs - jump into the right system:state, quick FSS for signals, go to HGEs or jump to the next system.

I haven't yet figured out how exactly USS system works now, but as far as materials go, I would suggest looking for missions that offer Biotech Conductors (or other tier 5 material) as a reward. You can amass them fairly quickly by trading f.ex and later you can trade them for whatever material you need.
Searching USS sources can be fun, but when you try to find certain materials it can become horrible grind.

From my understanding they are persistent now, including shared with others.

That means that for more to spawn you'd need the others to be used up or 'time' out.

So yeah, rare ones will be a bit harder to get, because people will take them and their chance of spawning is lower.
Best thing you can do is encourage more spawns, by entering the existing ones and emptying them?

Or that would be my logic on it.

i found a couple of hge in djabea yesterday. it is listed as boom in eddb.io, however if you look at factions in-game there are no states at all. djabea is imperial so i only got imperial shieldings, but i filled my cap from almost empty in no time. if you are after fed mats, dunno, try wailtsu? it's fed and also listed as boom, and though it has very low population that might not be a problem (not sure): the good thing now is that hge, if they exist, are easy to spot and once you get one you can reuse it. just relog afterwards and it will respawn on the same spot while inside the timer. once the timer runs out, another will be spawned elsewhere, again easy to spot with the scanner. so as long as the system spawns one single hge, you can fill your cap.

OK thanks people, I clearly need to spend a bit more time getting used to the new discovery/exploring kit. I think first I'd better look for a few missions with suitable exchangable rewards. (I did actually purposefully do a mission yesterday just to get 5 EFC, but when I went to the Material Trader apparently those are not good enough to be exchanged for the Military Caps. *aargh!*
