Valve Releases Asynchronous Reprojection support in SteamVR Beta Client! Post your feedback here!

Testing just now, seems that I can push my graphics higher without noticeable frame drop, off to test the planet surfaces etc

Edit: Seems far better for me indeed, those with 1080's are gonna be able to ramp it right up, I am getting drops on surfaces but overall I'd say there has been some serious optimisations done here !

agree with that, it's working - I'm 1080 owner , tested with HMD Quality 2.0 and SS 0.85 and high visualls settings at res and surfaces there is less ghosting image for me . My sugestion is to unmark "interleaved reprojection " at steamvr . Are you guys still using reprojection allways on at steam vr settings?

I've only had a quick mess about but I thought the beta was defaulted to the new asynchronous option and not the reprojection.

At least that's what shows under the summary on settings

I guess the best way to test would be to opt out of the steam Vr beta and load up ED with the vanilla steam VR. Game graphics options will be the same so the difference should be obvious.

I agree. The improvement is huge. I was testing at SS 1.25 and HMD 1.25, AA - FXAA (personal preference to decrease the flickers), shadows medium, FX medium, Ambient off, Planets - High and excluding few microstutters when dropping near a station the results were superb. Especially considering that I only have 980ti. Overall massive improvements.

In Steam settings I had Asynchronouse Reprojection ON, Inter ... Reprojection OFF and Always Reprojection On. Maybe the Always Reprojection On doesn't have to be turned on, but it is too late for me to test more tonight. Will do tomorrow. FPS keeps around 70-90 at 90% of the time. Around 60-70 on planets when doing fast low flying. Asynch Reprojection seems to be smoothing it out really nicely.

As a 970 user, this is huge. I feel like I just got a free GPU upgrade, seriously. Everything feels smoother and I was even able to bump up a few settings. When this has fully rolled out, I'd say that FDev could probably lower their vr requirements to a GTX 970, it works flawlessly now!

Will be booting it up shortly to check it out.

I'm almost more excited about the SteamVR beta fixing the issue with the headset button, that was a real pain of a thing.

GTX970 here, massive improvement, can now run on medium settings without lost frames on planets and overall feeling is much smoother. Only the classical stutter for 5-10 seconds when dropping from SC to a station and somtimes in glide is still there (only since 2.2), but thats simply because of FDEVs unoptimized (net)code. Hope it will get better with some of the upcoming hotfixes. Really suggesting to get that beta!

So I put in a bunch of hours tonight on the Vive, with the ATW beta in SteamVR.

It's really hard to give a qualitative statement about it, but it uhh, felt good? I played around with all the standard options - 1x1, 0.65x2.0, 1.0x.1.5, even some 1.0x2.0 insanity. Once I see some heavy RES combat I'll see what settings I settle on.

I'd love to see what settings everybody settles on, as well as their system specs. I'm especially interested on how any other 970 users are configuring their quality settings.

I'm sure its only a matter of time before AMD support is provided. My guess is some driver update may be needed.

HardOCP did some VR benchmark yesterday and it looks like the AMD cards are quite terrible at this stage. Hopefully they can resolve the issues. But the RX 480 was scoring considerably worse than the 1060.

I'd like to add that I'm actually playing with a GTX 780 on VR Medium and haven't had any terrible issues so far. I will be upgrading though. VR Medium kinda looks like poop. :(

I have a 980, and it's allowed me to bump up the graphics to VR High, and still play the game judder free, even in stations, near planets, and in planetary rings. A definite win in my book.

Same for me : VR High, Texture High, SMAA, HMD supersampling in 1.5 : Smooth as Hell, judder free, clear text ...

Will try with HMD supersampling in 2.0.

Great release Valve !
