Velocity vector for the HUD

How about a simple velocity vector for the HUD. Military and civilian aircraft have had velocity vector technology for years and it is even more applicable for a ships movement through space. For anyone who is unfamiliar, a velocity vector simply shows the direction of travel of the ship. This should not be very difficult to implement and could be toggled on or off supporting user preferences. Seems like a very basic concept for space flight.

Thank you for your consideration.

flight assist on, allows for automatic correction of flight vector and ship orientation.
flight assist off, one must manually correct flight vector and ship orientation.

In either case tail sliding into stuff is annoying :D, especially on High-G planets ;) when the meters go to max, and you can't gauge just how "" max is anymore.

So flight vector and orientation vector might be of use.

Also add the missing middle stage of flight assist off, the I-war approach: ships orientation is automatically accounted for, (so you didn't need to un-roll, un-pitch, un-yaw)
But not the vector of the ship, so you still had to get your big engines facing the big vector to decrease it.

They had a Flight Path Vector (FPV) during early Alpha, removed it since the HUD provides a FPV by displaying space dust.

We have been asking for a dedicated FPV for 3+ years now.

This. (Although I didn't know the part about the Alpha... that was before I was around here. ) I also still would like to have the indicator. It would be much better than watching the dust.

I'm not saying this post is endorsed by G.A.R.D, but it is.

:p

I support this too!

I'd also like a vector indicator for floating objects, like cargo or materials. It can be quite difficult to figure out if they're moving, and in what direction relative to you.

Thumbs up from me. This would be especially useful when skimming planetary surfaces, but also in space whith FA off. Please implement this (at least as an option).

Support this.

An extension is lateral and vertical thrust indicators to get a sense of how much I'm moving in these directions without having an external reference point.

I think the reason why it was not added was it cluttered the screen. A lot of players did not want crap in front of their screen.

Yes, and would love to see "space dust" become a graphics option.

Is space so dusty because it has no way to clean itself?

I agree with most here, its been asked for since the beginning. This is the first space flight game I've played that did not have one.

Thank you for your consideration.

Has been requested many times, and I have supported the request every single time.
Would love this.

Thank all of you for your input. Using the “space dust” for orientation seems very archaic for an advanced space faring race. Additionally at higher speeds it can be very difficult to orient the ship using the dust visuals even to perform basic functions like to align for frame shift drive engagement. Again, the option to toggle it on or off should satisfy everyone’s preferences. Let’s keep this thread going to maximize the chances of FD taking action.

Thanks.
