General / Off-Topic Video Editing Software

Hello everyone. I was wondering if anyone could recommend some decent video editing software that's free. I'm interested in dabbling around at making gaming videos; but I've never done anything like that before. I've tried a couple so far but they either have really bad watermarkings over it or the majority of the software is locked behind a paywall.

Have you tried Davinci Resolve ?? Not sure if that is any good for Gaming Vids.

Resolve is excellent software that was originally intended for color grading, but the editing part of it works very well these days. It's free and doesn't include malware. The color grading is second to none, but VFX is not really supported. Also the learning curve is quite steep. The best editing software is Final Cut for the Mac. That has everything you need and is exceptionally intuitive once you get started.

On the OBS Discord someone highly recommended Pinnacle Studio which has a free trial and is fairly cheap. Haven't come around to trying it though, my main experience is with Sony (now Magix) MovieStudio Premium and Resolve (free).

On the Resolve forums I've been told to just use Vegas for that, but I think the people who did so have a rather outdated idea of "gaming vids". The software will sometimes fall over if you confront it with wildly variable framerates, and on older and worse clips I've experienced more than one crash.

It's free and quite capable, but it has a bunch of nasty bugs (foremost Fusion being unusable for longer single clips due to a bug that I've been reporting since the beta versions of v15). The free version is also rather dumb when it comes to hardware accelerated video decoding, so editing performance will be more on the "meh" side of life, especially if you record in h265. Audio handling (Fairlight) is extremely nice though, and in a pinch it can double as a DAW. The h264 encoder is also not the worst and produces good results even at moderate data rates.

Da Vinci resolve is only free if you buy the restricted version, the complete version costs quite a lot:

Edit: My bad, Da Vinci Resolve is free, the one which costs is Da Vinci Resolve Studio.
