[video] Guardian vs normal & engineered WEAPONS

So its an alternative though not better nor more effective...using a sidewinder on a wing mission is an alternative way of doing them, and they too are not better than what I currently use, but would also be an interesting choice.

Fer the now though, Ill stick with the weapons which are actually effective and ignore the weapons designed to kill the content I actively avoid ^

They are better than AX weapons though.

I never said those weapons were on a sidey...I said using a sidey on a wing mission wouldnt be as effective as what I currently use and as I dont use guardian weapons at all, I suppose I sorta hoped ye could read and work that part out yerself.

Now I fear I may have overestimated yer reading comprehension ^

I saw that, apologies then.

Back OT and worded differently...if ye take someone with no interest in thargoids, then how exactly are these weapons relevant besides being an alternative and less effective choice?

And ye...forums are not behaving themselves much lately...slow loading times, way slower than normal ^

Alien weapons sound really cool don't you think? I'd love to see thargoid technology on our ships in the future. Doesn't matter if they are not better.

Maybe it's just me, but i only see the negative or the want for an easy mode in elite: dangerous. I can't take him seriously in any manner. I understand people like the guy, but to me it seems he may need a break from the game and focus on my little pony for a while if he doesnt like it so much...

Yeah.... *cough*

Has nothing to do with difficulty or "easy mode", engineering and guardian unlocks are not hard, they are boring, tedious and lengthy. It's just bad game design.

It has all the relevance. Like your trying to take seriously someone who is fascinated by what is essentially targeted at 7 year old girls, who by chance happens to play elite and moans about things that are hard or difficult to achieve... Bad news sells so when others struggle too they will automatically side with him, and not the more informative/educational streamers. It's that common grounds and the lack of self restraint with the immature language and thinking (back to the brony relevance) which is some sort of relief to fustrated players and that is all he can offer

This is text book ad hominem and likely why you aren't able to view the substance of the video without a massive bias. I am equally amused and annoyed by Yamiks' schtick, but what he has to say is solid. Look through his videos to see the numerous suggestions he has made.

No, they really don't. Not in the current engineering system.

It's a common fallacy among gamers that a percentage point or two (or even a fraction of a percent) matters, but the reality is, shock and horror, gamers (even PvPers) are human make mistakes and play (even slightly) non-optimally all the time.

The reality is differences between the "finished" G5 enginnering roll and a few rolls into G5 is well within this margin of human error. And the other person's margin of error. It is not what is deciding fights.

/Yeah, yeah - it's blasphemy, blah blah blah "skill", blah blah blah "equal loadout", and the inevitable "you don't know what you're talking about". But I do. I'm just not approaching the topic with the same biases and conciets, and approaching it with a realistic understanding and acceptance of human flaws. :)

The difference between grade 5 with 3 rolls and grade 5 with 9 rolls might not be very huge but the difference in a g3 to a g5 is still huge, double the bonus (20-25% for G3 to 40-45% for G5 in many cases), it adds up fast over a lot of modules. So yes, you can competently engineer a ship with grade 3's and you'll have a phenomenal difference over the base ship, but you're going to be at a significant disadvantage to grade 5s. And if you're sitting on grade 3 rolls and you barely lose a fight, it's going to leave a bad taste in your mouth knowing that engineering is what lost you the fight.

They are not relevant for someone like you, but they are a good alternative to engineered weapons. It doesn't invalidate their place in this game.

Considering the time required, the drawbacks and their niche role (good against thargoids and players) they are quite frustrating for people who don't participate in a very small part of the overall game that they are essentially designed for (thargoids). Some of the guardian core internals can be a good alternative, but the weapons, with their restriction on type, class and their drawbacks are hardly a good alternative unless you want to use them against thargoids. That's a lot of stuff that can feel wasted to a lot of players.

How would you unlock them then? you can't simply make them easily accessible to everybody.

They already are easily accessible, it's just a long, boring, easy, brainless bunch of repetition.

I would just make them unlock by finding the blueprint, done. Find the site, get the data, bam. The overarching problem is that there isn't much to do with them....see, they have to put these huge grind walls in the way to make it feel like there is a lot of guardian/engineering content because once you get it, there isn't much to do with it, certainly nothing new. To fix that would take a long, very redundant post, the forums, reddit, youtube have been flooded with those suggestions for years, really good suggestions.

Good suggestion, make the puzzles a bit more tedious but less grindy.

for me, the tedious thing about engineers is,
that its not my ingame avatar that learns to modify stuff from some skilled teachers out there,
its the fact that after unlocking all that stuff, i still have to visit those places spread across the bubble for any variation and secondary effect.

that would be at least ONE true game mechanic for spacelegs, if i could just park my ship in space, walk/crawl to my ships modules and apply those modifications myself
- with the magic space wrench that is connected to the subspace-pocket that contains the materials

Yamiks is a brony? Didn't know as I don't do YouTube stuff. Well, that nets some auto-rep plus a bit of respect.

Gotta agree that the method of acquiring these weapons doesn't tickle my fancy. If it were one unlock for ALL types and sizes of plasma chargers...yeah it would be perfect. Gotta engage in the guardian stuff a little to get the goods.

I just hope we can engineer them someday.

Matters to me...if it doesn’t serve a purpose then it doesn’t get used. It’s why after almost 3 years I’ve still never had more than 5 ships total...because what I have serves a purpose whereas decorations do not.

I’m that respect, no, alien rubbish is still rubbish and they are useless on vanilla npc which is my bread and butter. So I’d be self nerfing...why exactly would I go through the grind just to self nerf with the end result?

Doesn’t really make much sense does it? There is no logic in taking part in what is a niche activity in an already niche game. It keeps yer lot busy and outta my way so it’s not completely useless though ^

it may doesn't matter if they are not better,
but it matters allot if they are worse in every aspect then comparable existing weapons

like "Enzym Missiles" which are straight reverse engineered thargoid weapons.
but unlike the original, ours are
1. dumbfires
2. limited time DoT
3. do not apply the corrosive effect through shields

and despite how crappy their base stats, we are not allowed to engineer them.
