I still love you FDev guys and gals. Yeap, all of you.

I agree for the most part, communication is important and certainly can be improved, everything else you said is spot on.Communication? A chef doesn't need to communicate with his customers, he needs to communicate with his (or her) own taste buds, in other words, their own judgement, because they are the artists that know how to do it.
Test-server? No thanks, that gives power to the community with opinions and requests, and what i've seen of the community (at least those parts that are regularly vocal) makes me think i don't want them anywhere near development.
Balance? For the same reason, no. The amount of cool and fun games that the PvP community has killed with their demands for generic balance over the years, is legion. Unbalanced means fun and unique stuff for the PVE/single-player experience. Look at World of Warcraft, it used to be full of unbalanced and interesting abilities for very different characters, now thanks to PvP they are all the same, they just look different.
Frankly, all i care about is that the bugs aren't being fixed. This of course is just my opinion, i'm not saying i am objectively correct, but it's how i feel about it.
I'm not pointing the finger at anyone here, but this is a fairly telling article about exactly that in the wider field of gaming :I'd like more communication, who wouldn't, I'd also like betas, they are fun, and seemed to help a bit with the bug finding and even some minor design oversights.
I think it's a bit mental to get this demandy about it with the developers though.
Game devs get a bit too much vitriol thrown at them, in my opinion.
Just for the sake of clarity, I don't believe their post was vitriolic at all. I'm also very clear that it comes from a point of wanting to make things better and a frustration. When I read the OP on the reddit thread I don’t read any vitriol at all. I think it was respectful and made valid points. Constructive criticism is not vitriol.
Thanks Zimms, what parts of the communications did you not agree with specifically?I'm a big fan of traditions and I was already worried this year's end of summer/early fall "the community is on fire" Important Community Update might be running late (name not final).
Jokes aside though, seeing how regularly this happens, I don't think it can all be blamed on the community being toxic. I absolutely agree with Zac that the CM team (and all the others) are indeed working very hard, even in their own free time. But it's not always just about how hard you work and I think some processes could definitely be improved.
I don't quite agree with Zac on the communication part, because from a player's perspective it feels like every bit of news we get is a bit too vague.
I think there's a little more to the reply then that. Some of the points are information and clarification, others (such as the bugs) are confirming that we didn't get it right and that we need to find a way to make it better.FD have responded via Zac. Both sides have had their say. Whether anything will change it remains to be seen, but i wouldn't expect much. Zac basically says they are doing their best and are generally happy with how they do things.
and it's free! oh, a
I think some of the key parts of that reply might have got missed.
- releases botched, ostensibly untested software
- "our qa guys are doing an incredible effort. and it's free! oh, and, you 'influencers' ... thanks for all the fishes, you can stuff it"
- smiles and gives himself a pat on the back
Better or Beta ? ....... Better and Beta would be bestI think there's a little more to the reply then that. Some of the points are information and clarification, others (such as the bugs) are confirming that we didn't get it right and that we need to find a way to make it better.
Personally I'd be quite happy to see the return of the dev diary and the occasional sneak peek of content already revealed (looking at you carriers).FDEV are dammed if they do dammed if they don't.
If they lay out posiible future content/roadmap/hopesanddreams and then, as it often is, things have to change we get a whole load of 'you broke your promiss' type stuff. If they don't they get well this type of thread.
This patch mess up is a bit of a weird one, it would be nice to know why the wheel fell off. If it was because of ARX, which it could be because the earning ARX mechanics means it interacts with just about everything, then would a beta have helped? Can you beta an ingame currency? You would need two systems running in parallel, cash shop and ARX for those in beta.
If I'd been FDEV I would have been tempted to say 'although this patch is small in content it is wide reaching and could have unforseen circumstances, please be patient and here have some ARX to play with whilst we bed it in'. Don't know if that would have kept the toys in the pram though.
Anyway I suspect FDEV have worked out the best way to deal with this is to just wait it out until the next shiney bauble or outrage inducing event comes along and we all forget and move on to that.
That £1.5m is long gone, it ain't going to pay for weekly bug patches etc. You can't really believe they spent it on pizzas, we all know DB spent it on booze, fast cars and faster women (he wasted the rest)You know one think i think FD are forgetting. The community, certain members, me included took part in a Kickstarter campaign that raised over £1.5 million pounds to throw at FD to help develop the game. Some say on this thread we (the players) are not entitled to anything and we should be thankful when the devs throw us a bone or two, bearing in mind since Horizons, nobody has paid a bean to play the game apart from maybe a few cosmetic purchases, which are obviously optional.
I have to disagree with the not entitled sentiment. One thing, and one thing only i am entitled to, is to be able to play the game, without having to constantly restart the game during a session, due to game breaking bugs that litter ED, and i'm on PC. They are getting worse judging by the Greek tragedies taking place with my console brothers, some of whom can't even login to play the game. Believe me when i say i am entitled to play the game, it's what i contributed to, it's what i expect to be able to do, without having to put myself through the latest patch, and find a load more gameplay issues that just add to the previous collection of not working features.
I honestly don't care who comes on from the devs and tells me there's a roadmap, and maybe the tiniest of hints about what is coming and how well everyone is communicating with each other because that is clearly not so. It's the wrong type of communication. We'd like some of the features that are already in game to actually work, without crashing the game. Actually complete certain features in the game so they work as intended instead of only half working. Too much of that going on i'm afraid from FD. Half finished ideas, that really need sorting out, instead of patches that just create even more issues, it's not funny. Communicate to us when these will be fixed, and we'll all be happy.
So to the devs, communicate with us when you are going to fix these issues, current and long standing, initiate regular bug fixes in weekly patches, that would really raise morale in the community and actually mend the broken trust that is clearly there at the moment. Don't just spend the money we gave you to buy pizzas, actually give us a product you can be proud of, so we can be proud to play it.
