Hoy es el día. Veremos que dicen.
Watched the stream.
I don't understand why Zende Partners which is a corporation with obviously a lot of money and I'm sure has as much as information about the Guardian as possible need to ask the 'community galactic' for where they should send their megaships. Let's say there is not enough vote or nobody vote, what Zende Partners is going to do ? Those kind of things should happen without players input because it just break the immersion and role playing, it pulls you out of the game, it remind you that Zende Partners is in the news just because of the Interstellar Initiative and is waiting on the players to do something...it should happen naturally and gradually over a few days or a few weeks, put the lore and a bit of story here and there. This does not feel real.
- Interstellar Initiatives are going to involve much more help from the devs and from the commanders to shape how the galaxy works and the decisions that happen.
- They understand that forum vote are not our favorite thing and they do hear what we say about vote in-game and getting people more in the game than out of it. They are aware, devs are aware and they are going to see what they can do about that in the future.
- The forum vote was essential to get the rest of it kicked off because if they don't know where we want to go they got nowhere to start.
- They are not going to introduce/extend the vote in-game.
- Bridging the Gap start with this vote but doesn't end with this vote, this is not the whole thing; there is more coming.
- While the ferry has a practical use, it's also symbolic about this corporation and partners who are making efforts to set up an outpost out there. It's symbolic of the narrative they want to push with this. They can't put an entire story in at once, like it's just happened and it's done and gone.
- Zende Partners wants to be able to have easier access to Guardians technology to maybe develop new technologies and to make more money. Guardians tech is very lucrative and it make sense that there are many parties out there who want to be involved with it.
- Bridging the Gap is about looking into/encroaching more on Guardians or former Guardian space and extracting what they can from it. Corporations and partners hope to do that and they want to use that technology to improve human technology/mix it.
- The ferry is not only there for the duration of the event but forever.
- 5 systems with each a Guardian thing in it.
- The vote is important in the sense we're voting to throw in a location where Zende Partners are going to expand into.
- There is an entire story for it and a bunch of information and fun things to do.
- Zende Partners want to use this technology to improve humanity zone technology, there are things to be gained from this and anyone can get involved at any time and still have a hand in how the story develops.
- There is gonna be new tech.
- Interstellar Initiatives are going to be tapped into of lots of different of gameplay, this first one is centered about Guardian technology and sites.
- The megaships are already built, Zende just need to know where to send them.
Why the lore has not been weeks in place before this announcement ?
Sigh. Was trying to avoid getting sucked into this...
Building the background on a scenario, fleshing out any necessary characters, creating the tension/drama and sense of expectation in the reader/player isn't "revealing the plot" - it's an utterly essential part of introducing the story. It's the blurb on the back of a book, the trailer for a movie - all the stuff that makes you go... Hmmm... might read/watch/play that.
I haven't seen the livestream, and I very much doubt Paige intended to be insensitive, but the reaction underscores a lack of understanding of how to define, communicate and present a narrative that you want people to take part in. I've said it before and I'll most likely keep saying it...
For a good narrative the following are not negotiable:
1. The background - Who are these people, what are they like, where did they come from, what are they trying to achieve, are they trustworthy?
2. A reason to care - These people are good, these people are bad, these people are dodgy, I agree with what they're doing, I don't agree with what they're doing...
3. A reason to take part - Do they need my help, do I want to thwart them, can I make some money off them, is there another angle I can play?
4. A stake in the outcome - Life, death, unlocking something of importance, trade route, facility, etc. etc.
If you miss out 1 and 2 and skip straight to 3, then you will not get much engagement. And if 4 isn't seen to be 'worth it', then future events won't get given a chance either.
Fdev did the same with PowerPlay, with Aegis and now with Zende. No background, no lead in. Skipping straight to 3 each time and wondering why everyone asks "Who are these people?". It's a shame because it doesn't take much effort, but it is crucial to the success of these sort of things.
I'd really like to see these initiatives succeed, let's hope they're taking notes.
Cheers,
Drew.
El streaming, my mejorable.
