VR and Desktop modes Problem

Just a quick question.... Today I loaded up Elite Dangerous and found that I couldn't start it in desktop mode.... Has anyone else experienced this problem and how did you get round it? I'm using an Oculus Rift and loading the game through the Oculus Library.

I've read several reports on this forum regarding problems with starting ED through the Oculus library. The descriptions of the symptoms differ. As I start my game directly from the ED launcher (although I do play on the Rift), I haven't seen any of those myself.
