VR to remain same in odyssey (with bug fixes)

I’ll worry about this when Odyssey VR is finally capable of coming even remotely close to Horizons VR in my ship and SRV.

I can personally live without FPS shooting in VR, I feel for those of you that do want that and feel that perhaps you were led to believe it would come eventually. However, with the inevitable roll over from Horizons tech to Odyssey tech I just want to be able to continue doing what I have been able to do in VR for the last few years.

I keep writing responses to threads on this, and then deleting them. I'm angry, disappointed in fdev, and disappointed in myself for falling for this and buying Odyssey.
I hold out hopes that the vision and plan for the game is more than just "we'll patch stuff for a month, then go make the console release and that's the end of it," but at this point I don't hold out much hope.

besides the bad news with vr. i'm surprise they didn't also say they were dropping head tracking with track ir as well. as thats been messed uo since day one in odessy as well. i mean it works but as soon as you aim down your guns sight the game goe nuts thinking your looking ina different dirrection or does know which way your head is looking and you get some weird stuf like the shots from your gun off in different direction than your gun is pointing at!

From Todays stream - this is paraphrasing, as it's from memory, but:

The state of VR (flat screen etc) is how VR will be for odyssey - it will not change.
"We will fix any existing (odyssey bugs), but that's it"

Not surprising, but sad.

Edit: I only bought my VR to play Elite. I have however moved onto plenty of other games since then, but it was my first, and original reason for buying it.
Sad indeed, but expected. IMO it's a shame they didn't clearly say so from the start instead of tiptoeing around the subject, they would have saved themselves a lot of flak.
And to be honest I'm kind of fine with this as long as they fix all the bugs and not just leave ship-based VR by the wayside. Still hoping for simple "experimental" VR support in fps mode, but I can live without it. However, I REALLY hope they will keep VR play in mind for future ship-based play! (i e new planet types, new ships etc).

So soooo disappointed.

Feel like they've just taken our money and ran.

All this nonsense about no VR at launch and bigging up the technology heavily implying that they're still into it. An implied promise that it was on their roadmap.

Feels like a gut punch. This game used to be soooo good. A perfect way for me to unwind after a stressful day at work. Now it's just broken promises everywhere. A dinner served up raw at launch. So disappointed bordering on angry.

Even bought their other titles even though I don't much play them because I was so into this game and wanted to support them together with Arx purchases etc. No more :(

Time to crowdfund a game that listens to their userbase and doesn't screw them over.

Having played this game exclusively in VR since 2014 this is a right kick in the cods for me. The only thing that kept me playing was VR, but even then Horizons was getting stale. I was so looking forward Odyssey before it was released, even though I could have done without the shooty elements, but I tried the 2D windowed mode and hated it with a passion. Now that we know they won't be working on VR any time soon (I think that means never) I guess that's it.
I've left my ship floating out there in the black somewhere.
Fly safe commanders. o7

Well, I'm out. Elite has always been a VR game for me, and for many others it's what actually got them interested in VR to begin with. It helped to drive the market which is growing faster than ever now.

I love Elite in VR. It's simply magical. I get to explore space as a CMDR with my fleet of ships, seeing cool stuff in space. And it really feels like I'm there.

I won't be buying Odyssey until there is some level of commitment from Fdev to continue to support VR into the game's new content and future. If they do not, then I won't be coming with. If they do change their mind on this at some point, and bring VR support back into play, then I'll gladly buy the expansion, skins, etc. But until then, farewell. That's about all the influence I really have, I suppose - my wallet.

I've played this game almost exclusively in VR.

This game has really wonderful immersion in VR but outside of VR its kind of shallow and lacking in its implementation. Heavily compromised by its being BOTH single and "mmo" scale it just lacks depth as has been said many times for different reasons.

I was pretty positive on Odyssey overall as I think the (also shallow) game loop of the fps part of the game was definitely needed.

In theory I like the idea of the plant search but in practice its super boring and shallow and suggests that Frontier lack the vision to actually make planetary exploration fun or interesting. I have very little interest in seeing what they do with creatures or whatever if they keep pushing on atmospheric planets.

I'd decided to just pause for a bit so I didn't ruin the fps experience for when they got around to a decent VR implementation.

Crashes to desktop and shoddy framerates on a amd 6900xt made this pretty easy to do.

Without VR as at least a slowly evolving feature I have zero interest in this game, just not worth my time(or money).

I've also asked for a refund from steam on principle but ./shrug just money down the toilet most likely

Yeah, I think I'm going to do the same re. Steam as you Telc.

Payed extra for the alpha which was absolutely pointless as my system at the time couldn't run it. Purchased a new PC (as I couldn't get a graphics card anywhere) with relatively high specs and it still performs like FDev on customer interaction.

Yeah hard to get good performance cards even for $$$$ and then to have it just suck on one of the games you were looking forward to :p

Cheers

I’m not in the least bit surprised. I’m so used to FDEV weasel words by now. It there hadn’t been such a push to get VR in its current form from the community they’d have dropped it like a hot rock despite all the rubbish they spouted about wanting to do VR justice.

I’m done with them tbf. I certainly won’t be buying the bug fest that is Odyssey for my second account. That 2D cinema screen is pathetic. I’d rather just have the game switch to 2D when on foot but that’s not practical because unlike many VR games it can’t do that without crashing and messing around with strings in the launcher shortcut.

If somebody can come up with a way of selling VR skins for Arx I'm sure they'd reconsider :p

Not surprised, not annoyed, not, angry, just disappointed, mainly at myself for giving them £120 for a lifetime pass which so far has netted me nothing but Horizons, a few skins I have no use for and an expansion I have almost zero interest in. Oh well, live and learn, last time FD ever see any of my money.

Just thought I would create a forum account to voice my displeasure at hearing this news. Not what I was expecting to hear and another step back after the odyssey and interior debacle.

Perhaps it is time to give Hello Games a call and get some advice on well.... various things! PR, Game Support and now VR. 👏

Same - sad day indeed. Solidarity here
Not sure I'm into the NMS route but! At least ED lets you fly properly, but I see your point
