Warning! A large friends list will kill your frames per second!

As per 2.3, anyone with lots of friends will suffer a huge fps drop!:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Rate-Killer?p=5387431&viewfull=1#post5387431

I've gone from 90 fps in my HMD (i5 6600k and asus 1080) to an unplayable 40 fps. Apparently all because of my friends list!

So if you're having problems with your fps, then take a look at your friends list and then head over to the bug section in the link above and make your concern heard.

The game has become unplayable for me. :(

Edit: A fix is on the way:

Those young folk, complaining about 40 fps.

In the old days, we were happy when we had >16 fps. We called this smooth gaming performance.
Nowadays, I limit Elite to 30 fps to keep the GPU cool and the fans silent.

Joking aside: I culled my friends list with 2.3 as I gathered a lot of friends in community events, but never chatted with them since meeting them at one event or so.

"unplayable 40fps"?

Is TV unwatchable for you?
Your phone unusable?

40fps is good!

:p

(Joking of course, HMDs require super smooth FPS)

Luckily, i don't have many friends in ED. I may do a culling of the ones i haven't spoken too since before Christmas. Because i basically don't remember who they are. Lol

How can you be sure that it is the number of friends who causes the fps drop?

Sorry guys, forgot to mention that it's with my HMD. Edit: I did say it was with my HMD! You guys!

But check the link, the crash is real, and a patch is on its way:

https://forums.frontier.co.uk/showt...-Rate-Killer?p=5406505&viewfull=1#post5406505

The game is quickly becoming unplayable to many. Feel free to check your fps with CTRL + F if you have an active friends list.

My first PC had no fans, not even in the PSU!

It had no graphics card either for that matter.

It was very quiet though. Lol

You didn't forget to mention your HMD, it's right there, in your OP. Lol
I'm not psychic. :p

Its number of friends and the connection of those friends and the location in the galaxy of those friends.

We've tested and seen a 80 FPS change when someone with bad net goes solo or if you unfriend them - the increase in FPS is massive. If you dont have many friends then this isnt an issue.

Had to walk 100 miles in t' mornin' too, t'borrow t'chalk from school, uphill int snow... And take it back again after too.

You kids today, don't know yer born.

This seems unlikely, there is likely a different cause, I cannot imagine it hitting the fps that hard. So yeah, you may want to look another place, but for the heck of it, how high is that number of friends?

Lucky gal, you were allowed to borrow the chalk. Must have been you charm.
We had to steal the chalk or form our own form the dust fallen down from the chalkboard.

Nope. It's the real deal. Check the link. :)

Kids down my road still do that :)
They mark out spaces on the pavement next to all the parked cars and write what they think of them. I always try to find an "Awesome" space to park by if I can :D

PS: Back on topic: repped OP for bringing the bug thread to my attention. Looks like we might've found out one of the reasons they delayed Multi-Crew when the Beta started...

I'm on xbox, same issue. I think you may be right and is related to friends but I don't know if having a lot is the cause or just bad connections between two people. For instance - Solo works fine for me. Open worked fine until a few friends came online then got the frame rate drop. Switch back to solo, fine again. Jumped into private group, fine. Until one of my friends joined the private group and immediate frame rate drop. We were the only two people in the pg at the time. So perhaps it isn't the number of friends you have but rather who you are trying to connect with? Just a thought.
