WCCFTech - Odyssey Interview - From the Darkness of Space to the Light of Uncharted Planets

Will 'FPS content' also include player ships, megaships, capital ships, and stations? What about boarding other ships and stealing them?

Luke Betterton:
Our first development diary is focussed on planetary exploration and discovery, while I’m not able to share full details on this just yet I can say that players will be able to explore a variety of locations on foot. We look forward to sharing more about combat and player interactions over the coming months.

Thought it was kind of interesting that they didn't give an outright 'no' to this question.

I'll just wait and see now. I remember when Horizons was launched with what appeared to be immense trailers showing base combat with the SRV driving about looking totally amazing, then what we got was quite stale and sloppy by comparison to what they made it look like, not to mention very slow and glitchy for a long time until it got smoothed out. I do hope Odyssey is ready to offer a grand experience when released.

Could definitely get gnarly if some players are taking missions to take over a settlement while others are on defence...
I need more details about it... I hope it's not like in Star Citizen where other players can play your same missions without you to know. And if they arrive first they complete it and you just lost your time for nothing... This is a game mechanic that I really hate.

Even more caveats about the VR support. Clearly that's never happening. I suggest letting them hear your displeasure at every opportunity. Squeaky, shrieking wheels!

Be optimistic man, maybe they'll all be as attractive as the Japanese ones you ... well, whatever you do with them 😟

Not even kidding, I quite like the fact that most of Elite's NPCs look like they've got space face, some sort of radiation-induced collagen destruction, fetal onionhead syndrome, the generational effects of small colonial gene pools, and sometimes have even had a terrible accident in a pantomime dressing room.

I know I'm probably the only one, but I'm kind of over everyone in games looking like a supermodel. It's facile and I hate feeling pandered to. I don't like when developers treat me like some shallow, tragic sadcase who needs manufactured attraction towards a non-existent NPC to engage. I DO like the grimy, sweaty, seedy vibe when the characters all look a bit grubby and weird, like in the Alien films. Lots of those folk were your standard plain- or weird-looking working class shmoes. There's something about that that really helps build a sense of gritty reality so much better.

I would like to see some of the face-generation stuff rationalised a bit to tone down some of the more egregious aspects, where it enters the comical, like skin/eye/hair colour being all over the place, but if all the mission-givers are suddenly Botoxed, chiselled, baby-face cuties, I'd not be a happy camper.

Exo-biologist specialization.. I'm up for that. Also the stealthy game play.
Doesn't sound like the kick the rocks cos there's nothing else to do scenario eh.

Well. With space legs and concentration on surface missions, I really hope that they finally “fix” the stupid “wack-a-mole” surface scan game play with the instant bounty on your head.

I hope it's not like that too. I doubt it will be. Missions don't work like that at the moment, so I doubt they will do in Odyssey.
