WCCFTech - Odyssey Interview - From the Darkness of Space to the Light of Uncharted Planets

I need more details about it... I hope it's not like in Star Citizen where other players can play your same missions without you to know. And if they arrive first they complete it and you just lost your time for nothing... This is a game mechanic that I really hate.

Thing is it's pretty hard to explicitly deny someone from being involved in your mission if you're in open. SC actively pitted people against each other IIRC, which is slightly different I suppose.

Other takeaway: no weather- although I wonder if we will get random small dust devils (only visible from that instance?)

Although interestingly, they said something along the lines of "we would love to bring this to Elite Dangerous Odyssey eventually". Not Elite Dangerous, but Elite Dangerous Odyssey. Which does suggest even though Odyssey is a lots-at-once update, it will perhaps be iterated upon over 2021/2022.

Might give some additional context to all those "not at launch" statements.

Indeed. But I'm wondering if Odyssey is the 'default' way to refer to the game now.

I like this interview but they stay kinda evasive on current fix and new things for the space part.
I'm really hyped for the whole planetary thing , but I do hope they did not lost the focus on the space part of the game.

@Rubbernuke they seem to add powerplay things on planet , be happy :p

It will certainly be interesting to see if FD will bring PP, BGS, missions and interaction much closer- it certainly reads like they are*

terms and conditions apply :D
I'm positive the BGS and missions will do. As to powerplay, I will be interested in what they plan on that. For me, its currently unplayable.

Lol yeah, as someone else posted over there: ".. vague wording, PR-like non-answers. Yeah it's the ED development team alright."

So, basically here is what FDev are saying about Odyssey:
1. space legs on outside planets only - they said absolutely nothing about walking in ships, walking in stations, walking in buildings, etc.
2. space legs on certain planets only - they said only certain planets with thin atmospheres

That is all anyone can say has been 'confirmed'. And you know how it will be implemented: press button to walk/leave seat <screen fades as new instance spawns then fades back in with player POV now on surface>, magically appear on surface or appear outside a door to maybe walk down steps to surface. It's speculation of course, but FDev have said nothing about getting out of your seat, explore your ship, climb outside... blah blah blah, which they most certainly would have by now to hype the faithful.

Walking in buildings has already been confirmed with artworks etc...

"Social hubs spread throughout the galaxy give Commanders the ideal place to plan their next move. Form alliances, procure services, and even find expert support in highly coveted Engineers. These public outposts also help you acquire and upgrade weapons and gear to perfect your playing style. "

'"Suddenly all of the planets have a lot more activity, they've got a lot more people on them, various industrial settlements that are actually doing stuff. For me, it's the idea of being able to, as a player, go to those locations and interact with them and have that kind of more personal experience with the various people that are in the galaxy that otherwise have previously been just faces on boards or, you know, fairly distant inbox messages and that sort of thing. Now they'll actually be there doing stuff. It's gonna feel really good. "

For ship interiors they already told polygon that it will not be on odyssey at launch...

Okay, seriously. You must be new to FDev marketing. There is absolutely nothing there saying walking in a building. It say "interact" which you know is likely yet another cut'n'pasted menu or menus.
