We need multiplayer mechanics that make Elite a game worth to play online

Nice read about ARENA, but Braben totally doesn't get it. The entire PvP feedback from the Elite players is that they finally should enhance PvP INGAME, not capsule and thus totally disconnect it from the main game, outsourcing it in a tiny fighting pit.

What we PvP players want is to use our OWN ship in some meaningful (PvP) events INGAME with results that HAVE AN EFFECT ON THE GAME. As I said many times, CGs are a good start, but that can only be a beginning. We need multiplayer mechanics that make Elite a game worth to play online. The infrasctructure is a big problem, like the net code etc. but with some nice tricks and finally giving up this massive restrictions, FDev could already enhance the PvP experience a lot.

I humbly disagree. I don't thing Elite needs any multiplayer mechanics to make the game worth playing. But, opinions are like...so on and so on.

Ah, the new voice of Open, I presume? :D For the record, I find online play worth it. How about you describe what you want in more detail without pretending to represent anyone, know better than anyone or any such Kanyeing? Right now I only get you"re angry about pvp stuff.

The entire PvP feedback from PvP-centric players maybe. But, FD have to design the game to be as accessible to one mode as another. I believe FD want to allow PvP activities without forcing them on players. None of the games mechanics, besides the rainbow unicorn player bounties, are PvP-centric. Every FD created mission, goal, is PvE based.

I believe that the PvP players are going to have to get all emergent. They will have to create and develop their own interests in that regard. Waiting for FD to bring you motivation for PvP will be a very long wait.

i would like to see instancing fixed and COOP play have some sortof meaning for the core areas of gameplay.

Bounty hunting
Trading
exploring
missions or all types
PVP

At the moment i have a few friends that play this game, but nothing we can do together that isnt better done solo....

It's not about your opinion here as the game got sold as an emergent multiplayer gaming experience. That's why many people bought it. But they didn't get what they payed for.

I described what I want and also others what they want in like round about hundreds of posts here on the forum. Repetition doesn't seem to help.

That's the worst I ever heared. The game got sold as an emergent multiplayer gaming experience. That's why many people bought it. But they didn't get what they payed for. Pushing it now back to the PvP people is not only cheap, it's ridiculous. I bought the game for a thrilling multiplayer experience. What did I get. An almost empty universre with mainly very, very boring NPC-based game mechanics. I don't like to grind my way through the game for no purpose, fighting useless NPC enemies and exploring repetitive worlds and gameplay.

Emergent does not mean PvP. Emergent certainly doesn't mean Developer driven. Emergent is exactly the opposite of what you call for. Emergent is called that because it emerges from players using game mechanics in unusual and unexpected ways. If you want emergent play, create it. That's how it works.

I'm pretty sure that after thirty years of quite successful game design and bleeding edge innovation, Sir David Braben gets it.

Just because you don't like it does not form a majority. Nor does it allow you to speak for the entire PvP community, which frankly is everyone on this board with an opinion on the subject. You're not happy, fine. Give us your opinion how what needs to be done.

I'm pretty sure David Braben is not knighted. He is OBE. Other than that I agree wholeheartedly.

(Just trying to be overly pedantic in an annoying but friendly way, please don't be mad :D)

That shows how much you don't see how little FDev knows about multiplayer games. They simply are not experienced in that field.

The Fuel Rats covered that emergent stuff, all good!

funny post. I like it. not joking. O7 *hehe*

You are aware that their intention from the beginning was to make a game that has multiplayer, not a multiplayer game, are you?

They are very different things.

They can't without ruining the game completely. It was nice try to suit both sides but it failed. Though some changes in the future will come balanced around PVP but it never truly will be PVP game. The wrong choices were made rigth from the beginning of the development and recover from that is an huge resource consuming undertaken...... That's why we see those separate modules comes from FD.

It's simpler that way then completely rework the ED.

First meaningful post about the PvP issue.

+1

You do realise that one station is the equivalent playing area to a typical game that you would call PVP -
.
PVP can work but YOU need to make it work - Fuel rats have done it, the great UA and now barnacle hun6t has done it, there is even some emergent "anti griefer" squads
.
Overall the absolute scale of the game doesn't make PVP work unless you make it do so
.
One of your arguments is that there is obviously a need as there are loads of posts - yes there are and the arguments are ALWAYS the same and always ignored - if you want PVP set it up Fuel rats have proved it UA has proved it PVP want spoon fed

Then they shouldn't have marketed the game as such. Just watch the 1st and 2nd trailers. And the whoohooo, so much action wing on the surface Horizons trailer. It's simply a damn marketing trick. I bought Battlefield 1942, BF2, BF3, BC2 and BF4 and always got what they sold the game for. Elite is, in the end, a complete lie. Based on game mechanics of 1984 when multiplayer gaming wasn't born. They definitely sold it as an emergent multiplayer experience (text from website of early days) but knew that they totally can't deliver. As simple as that.
