General / Off-Topic Webspace/Hosting recomendations

I'm looking for a reliable but fairly cheap hosting package to throw up a quick forum on and thought I'd ask for your recommendations.

I've got someone prepared to run it for me and do the config/install but its something he is new at so the forum software must be fairly easy to get to grips with.

I'm on a tight budget so freeware rather than a hefty licence fee is also a must.

not sure on url yet but to be honest as long as i can give a link to a selected few people who will be helping me work on my book via the forums a ip address would do just as well but i will need a domain before long so if i can pick up a co.uk cheaply with the hosting so much the better.

what would you recommend?

Forum software... there's plenty out there and a lot of it is free (http://www.simplemachines.org/,https://www.phpbb.com/,http://www.discourse.org/ or see http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(ASP),http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_Internet_forum_software_(PHP),http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Comparison_of_internet_forum_software_(other))

Hosting costs will vary depending on the scale you're after and if you know someone who can hook it onto a larger service they're already getting. Assuming a relatively small scale you'll be paying around £5-10/year.

Personally I don't use shared web hosting any more - I have virtual private servers and these offer more flexibility for my needs, so I can't recommend any providers. The forum at http://www.webhostingtalk.com/ usually has a lot of providers posting offers and the users will post reviews - as with anything though, trust noone and verify the reviews independently.
