ANNOUNCEMENT Welcome to the new forums!

New forum is pure cancer. Unable to login with firefox. I'm not linking my game email with forum email because I don't trust any company from not taking revenge ban. Yes even this forum have this problem with malicious moderators.

Not to be a negative Ned, but I’m not so keen on the new forums. They seem harder to navigate, do not read as smoothly, and I won’t even go into how little fun it was trying to get logged back in... but that said, they do seem to load faster, especially on my phone, and so far haven’t shown any of the odd quirks the old one did, so there is that. I also see they still haven’t added the Mine Salt button. ;-)

When in doubt, go with the standard - black text on a white background. Search engines use this, news sites use this, blogs use this. The forums are for reading and writing text, not for simulating the cockpit of our spaceship.

I installed the Chrome addon suggested in this thread and set background to ffffff; text to 000000; links to 0040C0 and visited links to 4080FF. Works nicely indeed.

I was confused ppl talking about login with store credentials only.
Now I got the same experience on another computer. Acutally all the standard login items linked to the store login. Only when using the reply button w/o login I got the std forum login using my other ID. Link is here https://forums.frontier.co.uk/login/

Is this intentional by FrontierDev? Then it's utterly crap.
So request is to fix this asap. No way I ever will use my payment login for a forum!

I have this problem too, I could only log in using my old forum password after pressing the reply button within a thread.
I couldn't use my Frontier log in because then I'd get the message that this email addres was already in use by another account.

While I get that white text on a black screen may not be the preferable "style", and it may even be hard on the eyes for some, the way many of you are going on about how it's putting you in the hospital is silly. If this is the case, then all Putin has to do to conquer the world is hack all the websites and change them to this color.

Seriously, let's not be so hyperbolic 🤢

Now shadows on PS4 - that's something that can put people in the hospital!

I seem to remember being told we could log in with either our forum username and it’s password or using our store email address and it’s password.
You remember correctly. For example, Brett C said shortly before the migration:
User details from our two forums all persist to the XenForo install, linking your forums account to the FrontierStore account system is optional. :)
… then, while the forums were offline, went in and changed “optional” to “needed”. How sneaky, Brett :sneaky:

Seriously though, whatever Frontier does to sort out this mess, they better keep the XenForo login page working. I mean, while for me being forced to use the Store login would be just an inconvenience (the CAPTCHA, ugh), some people already mentioned in this thread it might be a deal breaker for them.

[EDIT 2019-03-30: Brett changed it back, said he did not remember changing it in the first place. I guess it must have been Thargoids, gremlins and/or Sir.Tj. Anyway, it’s all clarified in post #7708475.]

(Oh, and not-so-seriously again: Spaceman Si, have a rep^H^H^H^H like for the HHGttG reference in this post. :))

On the other hand, this site is way more demanding on my processor. This site apparently uses a lot of javascript. It causing the fan on my laptop to spin up (due to heat). When I noticed this I tested to make sure it's this site using CPU, and it is - close to 50% on a dual-core system. That's likely one core saturated. And all I am doing is just typing this post!

Frontier, are you running Bitcoin mining software in our browsers?

I'd be curious what this site does to mobile devices - it might be a battery killer.

Well, that explains why my iPad went from 50% charge to 10% in the space of a couple of hours whilst I had the forum open in a tab. What with tracking cookies and the like, it seems like logging out after a brief session is the order of the day if on a battery operated device.

On the PC, it just looks terrible, rather than being a battery problem, at least ;)

Apparently this WYSIWYG editor is the problem. Any page with this loads down the CPU. It's obvious this is heavily dependent on inefficient Javascript. So, the secret is not to leave our browser open to any threads we're not actively reading or responding to.

Frontier is contributing to climate change!!!! Forget the farting cows, everyone CLOSE YOUR BROWSER TABS!

Yep, there goes my fan spinning up again. Is there a facepalm in this new collection of "smiles"?

In the end I find this new forum rather nice.

Clear, well ordered, functional.

However, I regret having lost my star under my avatar.

I hope Brett can return it to me again.

:)
