What am I doing wrong. I take damage when I successfully interdict another player...

Damn,
Just got 26,000 cr in damages on my ASP after 2 successful interdictions...

I'm the one interdicting....

:( Hard to make it worthwhile as a Pirate....

Your doing nothing wrong its just buggy as hell atm. I keep getting emergency drop messages for a successful interdiction. Which is why you and I keep taking damage from doing so.

If you leave SC at speed it will damage your ship, it is not actually part of the interdiction process but because you dropped at speed.
It is not a bug, it happens even without an interdiction if you exit SC too fast, you need to kill your speed just before the interdiction ends.

When the interdicted party does not "submit by throttling down" both ships are damaged,
however the damage inflicted on your ship is lower with higher rated gear (a rating)
than with cheap stuff, haven't got any numbers on wether a larger class interdictor might reduce
that damage even further, related to the mass of the interdictor and interdictee.

If they don't submit, you take damage - and they take damage. That's how it is - and not a bug. If they win the struggle, however, neither takes any damage and you both fly your merry ways. If they submit, then - no damage.

Funny you mention that but its often when I get the "submitted to" message I get the damage. Also I have noticed that if you submit really quickly the interdictor will fail automatically.

Sometimes interdiction goes a bit whacko. Then it'll react like FSD failed and gives damage....

I'm sure that'll be fixed some day.

If you submit to the interdiction, but drift off the escape vector too soon,
the interdictor still sometimes interdicts you normally inflicting damage.

there are two states:
Submit = exit facing forward with not spinning around, no damage inflicted.
Interdicted = exit spinning with damage and heat generated.

It's usually about 2% hull damage, hardly worth worrying about really. And it's by design, if they don't submit to the interdiction or escape then BOTH spaceshifts are force-dropped causing minor hull damage to both craft.

Edit: Should also say that if they escape the interdictor still force-drops suffering damage.

Minor hull damage to large craft is very expensive.

so true. that s non sense.
just done an nterdiciton on an wanted ASP ship.
interdicted him, 7% hull damage on my python (+/-190 000cr repair !!!!!!!!!). W T F seriously ?!

Yup, its funny how NPC Anacondas can interdict haulers for a 200cr bounty, but a player In a python can't interdict a wanted NPC anaconda, well they can but it costs far more than the bounty you would receive, unless of course it was a 150k one.

I just hope they consider adjusting the damage % incurred depending on the ship type you are interdicting etc.
Since being interdicted in a python is atm a rare occurrence, the entire gameplay element of interdictions goes away in a big ship.

I wouldn't even mind if it was higher % for interdicting players vs NPC's (to help prevent griefing) being that I am a PVE player.

Try dropping your speed to 0 after starting the interdiction. In theory it'll stop you taking the too fast emergency drop damage.

That doesn't work, I have tried it numerous times, sometimes taking 10% damage
I know the best place to interdict is on station approach / when speed is low, but even so...

It's intentional so you have to think before you interdict. If there was no penalty some people would just interdict everything they saw flying and make a real pest of themselves.

You are doing nothing wrong it's just how they work. If they don't sumbit by slowing to a stop you have to drag them into an emergency stop and do one yourself.

(I would prefer being able to cancel an interdiction if my target decides to flee and I don't want to force the issue.)

Successful Interdiction - Both players receive damage
Submitted Interdiction - No Damage
Failed Interdiction - Damage for the interdictor only

There are bugs, I have had situations where throttling down doesn't submit properly and times where I have submitted, dropping safely to normal speeds to find no pursuers.

Yes, but as per my previous response, its a gameplay element which becomes almost non-existent when you trade up to a bigger ship.
In a python, surely another python / anaconda should be fair game without costing me a fortune just to experience it, hence I don't bother, nor do I get interdicted.. twice since I got my python and one was a ghost interdiction and I have played a considerable amount of hours in it, its not something I jumped into recently.

the 7% damage caused by successfull interdiction cost me 188000 credz.

Has anyone noted if the quality and size of your interdictor has any impact on the amount of damage you receive or your ability to minimise it (by slowing down)?
