The attack/defend scenarios that spawn around them can be fun and they're usually situated with a planet as a backdrop so can just be nice looking locations for screenshots. I've never tried it myself, but you can liberate cargo from them with hatchbreakers too. If they happen to be in a power play system (this one isn't, obviously), they give a reasonable amount of merits if you scan the megaship and then the ship uplink with the data scanner.

Ever landed on a lush terran planet? No? So how do you get all the essential consumables to all these barren places of ED? Megaships.
I used to do a lot of that, just for fun as it never paid well, then it got bugged and I never went back to it. I’ll have to try again, as I vaguely remember hearing that bug was fixed after years.
Some can be docked with such as the ones that go to a system in Guardian space. The Azimuth ones had story attached, there's the Colonia Bridge megaships.
I'm sure someone is trying to find Raxxla by tracking megaships.
