What are you buying with the free ARX and Table showing play-time needed for store items

Now that we are given free ARX for playing the game (with a cap of 400 per week), I thought it'd be interesting to see how long it would take to earn enough to buy the store items. Here's a table that shows the ARX prices of the various product types and the corresponding play-time required in weeks. This of course assumes that you play enough to get the max 400 a week.

So if you have 850 ARX now, that'd be enough to get one of the cheaper paint jobs already, but suppose you want one of the most expensive ones costing 3250, the table tells you at a glance that you'll need to save up for 8 weeks.

Years ago I bought some paint jobs (and the weapon-colour detailing) already, so I'll probably save up for my fav bobblehead seen below, though that will take 4 months! Incidentally, I'd recommend the weapon-colour detailing, which isn't too costly and it provides a minor advantage of easily distinguishing your weapon fire from the others'.

Not buying anything tbh.
The paint jobs of the past 10 months have been MSPaint quality. So unless they REALLY, and by that I mean get some top notch designer in there and pay him a fortune to make something decent, ramp up their game, my wallet will be sealed as tight as Scrooge McDuck's wallet.
And no, grinding for Arx isn't worth my time. Got other games to play.

Nothing as the stuff im doing in game don't give much arx for the limited amount of time i play plus nobody sees my ship hardly anyway. Blaze your own trail is a myth with the credit system.

Ironically the cheap paint jobs are some of my favorites. I got the vibrant red 620 Arx paint for my Vulture, and I love it. Many of the more expensive paint jobs are overrated.

I also grab random decals for things like my cargo ships, to give them that corporation feel.

Oh, and sun glasses, of course!

I just don't understand where the sense of entitlement comes from. We've had, what, four years of only being able to buy paint-jobs for real money, and barely anyone complained. Now FD decide to give us a way to supplement our purchases and save some money, and all of a sudden people are ferociously indignant that they can't get the most expensive cosmetics for absolutely nothing within a few weeks?

I don't get it.

Play the game the way you always have. Don't concern yourself with Arx until you actually want to buy a cosmetic, then, shock horror, you might have enough Arx to supplement the monetary value significantly.

Like... so what if you don't hit your Arx cap for the week? You're still not being short changed at all.

nice taste. i also got the vibrant pack for the vulture, but preferred green and yellow paints. tbh, at that time there were very few to choose from, but they're still one of the best. basic single color theme is hard to get wrong, even for a brit!!! :ROFLMAO::p

anyhow at that time i still felt admiration and respect for the company to donate them a few bucks, so this was an exception: in general i do not contribute to this type of business models. i wouldn't mind paying a subscription or buying gameplay dlc if professionally done, but that's not on offer. alas, that window of opportunity is long closed now and nothing suggests it is going to reopen any soon, may they arxle around as loud and as frantically as they want ... the game is still good enough to play for free (i.e. without a subscription) while others generously satisfy frontier's appetite for me. so thank you all, i guess, and keep it up!

I'm not buying Arx and have no plans to. I bought a few kits and paint jobs over the last five years, but haven't seen anything to make me want to pull out my wallet again. As for free Arx, I'm not gaining much of them from my playstyle so I'm at maybe 230 arx since they were introduced.

Ha, I think so too - I actually bought the Vibrant Pack pre-ARX and like it more than some costing 3250 now.

I 'bought' the vibrant purple paint for a Viper Mk4 (a ship I didn't own until now), it's alright. The vibrant pack is one I miss though, as I quite like all colours. Pricing of individual paints is fair though to be honest.

Agree re the more expensive paints being overrated - I've made a habit now of avoiding any pattern type paints, the solid ones just look better on the ships as there are no wobbly shaped lines that negatively distract from it. Galvanised is one of my favourite themes, apart from the Black Friday ones.

Had a look at those new paints for the iCourier and Mamba, and while they look nicely detailed from a distance, once you zoom in (now thanks to the preview option easy to do) the lettering in particular looks pretty darn rough. No sale I'm afraid.

Next one might be a semi cheap one maybe for the iEagle (they're 820 a pop I think), or I'll just go with another Vibrant one for one of the bigger ships. It's a shame the Tactical Graphite/Ice paints are still AWOL, I'd get the Ice one for a few of my ships for sure (but probably less likely if the feared price hike for those two becomes reality - 620 is a fair price but not more than that unless they really do improve them quality wise).

Also @OP - that bobble head is indeed lovely, one of the first I bought and no regrets. Good choice.

Question to the knowing: I just want a name plate to display my ships name - this is quite expensive. I remember from the shop, that the name plate (I forgot the price) seems to be for all ships you have, so you buy it once and then can show the ships name on the ship, the same goes for the ships ID.

Is this true or do you have to buy the name plate for every ship you have?

Thanks...

With a free paint job or two every month, I'm quickly going to run out of ships to paint.
With 37 ships (I own cosmetics for about 2/3s of them), plus SRVs, plus SLFs, plus potentially more ships next year, I can't say the same. Elite will run out of Elite before I get to apply a paintjob to each of those purely from the free Arxes.
