What are you buying with the free ARX and Table showing play-time needed for store items

I don't care about earning Arx. It's done in other games, and I just buy the amount of online currency I need to get the items I want. Really couldn't be bothered to spend so much time to get one item (2 weeks for a basic paint job is .. imho .. a tad too "BUY ARX INSTEAD" for my taste anyway).

I will, however, say I am 200% surprised, nearly shocked, that for all the other ship clutter there is, that there are no dinosaur bobbles to stick on our dashes. It's not like they don't have quite a few dinosaur models available for quick recycling.

Not that I want one - I think those things are goofy. A hula dancer, sure, I'd pony up some cash and throw whatever odd play-the-game Arx I've accumulated at it, but that's about it.

Personally I bought quite a lot with Frontier Points over the years. Several Python, Asp X, Anaconda, Taipan, SRV, Beluga and Corvette paints, Asp X, Python, Krait Mk 2 and Corvette ship kits, the Leo COVAS, the pilot and Christmas Tree bobbles, a pack of decals, ship name plates and the ID plates, and finally a couple of flight suit packs.

I have only claimed the (basically free) retro Thargoid bobblehead since the changeover to Arx. I don't really feel a deep need for anything else at the moment to be honest.

Could be simple suit cosmetics, could be alternate weapon models, could be alternate building models or building lighting, could be internal ship decorations. Who knows.

I just don't understand where the sense of entitlement comes from.

It's not so much of an entitlement, it's more like what's on offer. If you go to a shop, and all you see is rubbish, will you buy something just out of courtesy? Even if you have a voucher for this shop?

Yeah, exploring doesn't seem to earn much in the way of ARX. Turning in exploration data earns it nicely, but if you are deep in the black and don't get to turn your data in very often then making ARX by exploring isn't going to rack it up quickly at all.
