Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The current CG made me a bit nostalgic, I guess.

Waaaay back in the day, when I was first coming to grips with Elite Dangerous, I wanted a Python, but could not afford one. This was back before engineering, even. All I had was a T6 as I recall. There was a combat CG that came up that promised good rewards, so I decided to get a Vulture and attempt to make some credits at the CG, because the CG rewards would add to the bounties and thus increase my income rate for a bit.

Now I'm not a big combat guy, and back then I was even less of one because I was so unskilled at the game. But I got in there and gave it my best. I did ok. I died a couple times, but in the end I made a good bit of cash. Not enough for the Python, but I got closer.

Anyway, the current CG is much the same as that one -- kill wanted ships -- and my Alt has that freebie Vulture from the Winking Cat scenario. I took it over to Rays Gateway and outfitted it as best I could. No engineering because she (my Alt) doesn't have anything unlocked other than Farseer. So it was rather like taking a trip into the past for me.

Even unengineered the Vulture is a fun little ship to fly, and quite effective in a RES site. 2 large pulse lasers and that's it -- nice and simple.

I spent a little while doing the old pew-pew and when I got bored turned in the bounties to the CG. It was fun for a bit, but I'm quite sure I could not earn enough for a Python doing that without going mad these days. I just find ship combat to be sort of mindless after a short while.

However, I did not come close to dying, or even losing my shields. I guess I have learned a bit over the years.

It was a pleasant trip down memory lane, though :)

RES sites are still beautiful to see:

I got to kill a Cobra MKIV. :D

The current CG made me a bit nostalgic, I guess.

I'm not normally one for combat, but am loving the current CG.
Just looking to increase combat rank, and more importantly, try to stay alive and gain experience, for the one day when I try open!

Probably more luck that judgement, but so far I have never been killed or interdicted since the first week - I'll ignore the first outings where I couldn't even control the ship!

Even tried Haz Res today, but found it boring, as not enough targets to take out
I guess much of it is about build?
Whilst not invincible, my current build easily copes with a wing of 3 Elites
Aiming for top 10% in the CG - Wish me luck!

A compromised nav beacon can be fun.

Luck.

Number and type of targets varies according to things like system state, government type and how much the RNG hates you.
You should take your Vulture around the engineers again as experimental effects aren't just for the guns and can improve things a lot.

I have to be honest - I don't have a clue with regards to experimental effects.
The burst lasers (Currently Multi-Servos) was pure experimentation. I followed some guides, but they didn't work for me?
What I have now, means I can shoot forever with 3 pips, and not worry about power drain. Seems to take out all targets easily.
The rest is avoidance using thrusters. I've still not mastered FA off, but doesn't currently seem an issue.
I'll use it in the never ending loop dog fight, but that's about it.

Any tips greatly appreciated

Regarding FA off I don’t use it except for landing on high gravity worlds where if you blip it the gravity will pull you down rather than you thrusting down to land.

If you add Cluster Capacitors to your Power Distributor that should last longer though it will take a little longer to charge.
The Frame Shift Drive has two favoured Experimentals Deep Charge and Mass Manager they both improve Jump range even more Mass Manager does it using complicated stuff and works best on bigger units Deep Charge just uses more fuel per jump and works best on smaller units. Using more fuel means that you can go further per jump but for fewer jumps, the cut off is around size 5.
Fast Charge is a useful one for the Shield Generator to speed recovery even more.

You should play with them in Coriolis to check they aren’t having unpleasant side effects like upping your power usage, always an issue with the Vulture.

...My lucky streak continues - Day 3 of the CG and still alive!

I've been interdicted half a dozen times today - sadly none of the pirates survived :ROFLMAO:

Oh, and a nice supprise earlier

Congratulations.

Now it is time for that little bit extra effort* and you could be one of the top 10.

*A mere 50 times what you have done so far might do it. I sometimes wonder about the top 10 players.

Cheers CMDR's - I'm doing alright, all things considered, so far. Breathing easy, can still taste chocolate, if nothing else.

It's the coughing. Real 'rockslide deep underground' type stuff. And with me having had two abdominal surgeries back in 2020, it's starting to feel a lot like being sawed in half every time I cough now.

Still, could be worse. It could be raining.
