Level 3 Lightweight 4E Life support
o_O
There is no reason whatsoever to use a 4E lightweight life support unless it's due to lack of money, which can soon be remedied and especially be remedied before starting to engineer it.

The module letters usually mean:
E: econonmy. cheap. No other redeeming features
D: lightweight
C: whatever
B: robust, heavy
A: top performance

For an explorer, the choice is usually between D for lightweight or A for performance. For the life support, the mantra was fora long time to go for D, since there was no need to get the 25 minutes life support time you could get from an A rated life support. If the canopy was smashed (or life support was disabled due to any other means), you were dead.
That slightly changed with field repairing your ship and specifically the "repair&reboot" option, as that one disabled the life support for the duration - and the oxygen depletio9n was cumulative.
Since we now (well, some time during 3.x) can synthesize oxygen for the life support, that changed drastically - now you can make your way back to civilization even with a smashed canopy, as long as you can keep synthesizing Oxygen (some people did, at least one under the wings of the Fuel Rats/Rock Rats/Hull Seals, who helped to supply them with synthesis materials). And there's a difference between having to synthesize every 7:30 minutes (D rated, or even 5 minutes for E rated) and 25 minutes.

EDHM could be your friend :D

Yeah I know about that and the CPM and I don't want to use it / them / either. I have for years used an override matrix to tone-down the neon orange and I don't want to mess with anything else.

I just wouldn't use a Krait out in the black, just like I wouldn't use one for mining thanks to the prox red lights flashing in my face unless I extend the undercarriage. Sorry, just annoyed at the cockpit design featuring form over function - not the only ship spoiled by that of course.

Would that be the "mocha" look using an edit to the graphicsconfigurationoverride.xml file? If so, I was using that and EDHM will use it's own colours depending on what you choose. It's quite easy to go through the pre-loaded themes and select one that "fits". If it doesn't, it's fairly easy to switch back... especially if you have the xml backed up.

Don't know what it was called, I got it from /r yonks ago and it sits in my elite bits notepad txt file on my desktop:

<LocalisationName>Standard</LocalisationName>
<MatrixRed>0.7, 0.08, -0.08</MatrixRed>
<MatrixGreen> 0, 1, 1 </MatrixGreen>
<MatrixBlue> 0.15, -0.15, 1</MatrixBlue>

Quite frankly I couldn't live with some of the colours that I see on peoples youtubes etc and mucking about with shaders to remove space dust et al. just seems a waste of time to me. Why muck about with shaders etc when you don't need to is my thought.

Kneel, suckers!

Thanks for the tip, does it mean that I can do this with no increase in mass?

If that's the case it's another 95 million credits but might be worth it, especiaally if it sells them which contribute to the Carrier Credit ballance...
You save on mass, but it does come at the price of purchasing and maintenance costs for the service. The only reason you would carry limpets as you do is to save on costs. The armoury also rearms anything else in your ships, like heatsinks, AFMU ammo, replacement SRVs and obviously weapons.

I might buy a Krait when I eventually get back to my base at the bubble. Also an Alliance Chieftan, which I think you also recommended a few pages back. I'm a collector of ships you see and want to get em all.

As for fuel scoops, I love the 5A one I have on the Dolphin as it completely refills the tank in a matter of only two or three seconds and it doesn't half save a lot of time. (y)
Getting all ships available to you is a noble ambition.

B rated fuel scoops are worth considering for larger slots, mass isn’t a factor and they are almost as fast as the A rated ones the big advantage is that they don’t cost more than the ship did (worst case)..

Not sure, but I think I'd be using it for bounty hunting. Also the Alliance Chieftain. Pity I can only fly one ship at a time though. :ROFLMAO:

I just came across some Notable Stellar Phenomena. Was able to download data and got a codex discovery bonus but I can't collect any samples as it looks like I need limpets which I don't have on the Dolphin. I did collect samples of these a while back though but must have been on a different ship. Probably the Asp X or Cobra MkIII I forget. Anyway I'll fit a research limpet controller next time I get a chance.

Not everything we find can be sampled, I am not sure the research limpets work on anything other than Thargoids.

I don't get all this love of the Phantom for trips out into the black. How do you cope with those awful bright white lights on the canopy in your face all the time? At least in the AspX you can change the FOV to move its bright canopy strut lights out of view but in the Phantom you are just stuck with it - crazy design in my opinion. It is even worse if I use my preferred option on my monitor of emulated HDR (which makes space look like space ;) ).

Sorry to bang-on about it but it is a pet peeve of mine.
They were annoying and I consider them as with several other things evidence that somewhee between now and the 34th century many principles of ergonomics and cockpit design have been tragically lost. Probably in a revolt lead by stylists and telephone sanitizers.

You are using MASSIVE equipment on that thing and just KILLING your jump range.

Using smaller modules you'd increase your jump range by 10 LY almost instantly.

I use a 4A power plant, 4D thrusters, 4D life support, 3D power distributor and 6D sensors. I also carry a 5C fuel tank. I can do 9 jumps of 70+ LY without refueling.

Never, ever use E rated modules. They're the absolute heaviest of the lot. Go D whenever possible. They're typically the lightest.
For all core internals the mass of the modules are from largest to smallest
E
B
A, C
D

The advantage for E rated modules is they are the cheapest which can save you money if you sell the ship as ships and their contents only bring in 90% IIRC of the cost selling modules on their own gets you what you paid in credits for them.

I guess that was the idea and I probably forgot this particular module, in any case, upgrading from the E to the D and engineering it worked, my Jump range increased and I still have plenty of power on tap. I guess ships responsiveness will also be a bit better due to lower weight (393.2 tons).

In any case, this fit remains multi-role, not strictly focused on exploration, reason for the power and thrust available, for purely jump range purpose, it still can be improved.

Here after Life Support being maxed-out to L 5 (from L4). Weight is now 392.8 tons.

Not much in the way of screenshots to share because I've switched to traveling mode. I started feeling trapped in the Colonia area because of the Tritium shortage there, and decided to make my way back toward the bubble. I'm not even stopping to explore the systems on the way (so far, anyway).

I did encounter a black hole system, though. The black hole itself was tagged, but there were also 3 neutron stars in the system, and a water world, that were not tagged. So I got those. :)

Here's a shot from today, though, of one of my Cutters on the pad.
