Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Thanks @Fnord Velkor and @Teiri @Codger for confirming that my guess about my stored modules not affecting fuel consumption was correct, but any for sale in Outfitting WOULD affect it. I must say I'm not sure why this should be the case re the stored ones, since the more ships and modules on board mean the greater the mass and weight the carrier has to lug around, but I'm certainly not complaining! :p

So far the thing i got most of the prob with is fungoida. Just in case you're lucky enough to get a variant growing in the mountains, your screwed. Either suffer it in SRV, either climb, and you never know if they grow on the other side... Fly and see from your ship and then land (where you can, far?) and figure where you saw them...
I've found that how easy or hard it will be to find and collect Fungoida depends on the type of mountain ranges they are located in. If the mountains have plenty of nice flat plateaus that are easy to land on then go for it, as they are often easy to spot and collect on those plateaus.

If however, the only mountains are lots of sharp pointy ones and are all close to each other, then I usually just forget it and move on!

Yep, take it. It's only a problem if someone sees you take it (and in this case, they are all dead anyway so it's all yours). Once it's in your backpack no one cares outside the settlement. Ship scans will not reveal it, either.

I generally use the Maverick but mine is G5 with extra shield regen. You can always go back and switch to the Mav after everyone is dead, if you find you have to cut into something. Once you get used to how things work, you won't need the comfort of the Dominator, probably.
Though taking things marked as illegal and then getting scanned in the same settlement is not good...

So @Tyres O'Flaherty - I am FINALLY trying to get serious about the on foot stuff.

I've done two "raids" where I have to go in and kill 16 people and they've come off well. I kill the guys outside with the SRV and then use my G3 Dominator suit to go in and kill the people in the buildings.

A few questions:
  • Every material is marked "illegal". Should I take it anyway?
  • Using the Dominator Suit doesn't give me the arc cutter, so there's no way to cut in to the extra lockers for the extra materials. Am I better off sticking with the Dominator or going back to the Maverick and using the cutter?
I'll stick with the Dominator suit for now just to be safe, as it seems it's a pretty tough suit and it lets me use two rifles and not just one until I hear from you.

Thanks in advance.
I tend to use a Dominator suit when combat looms. Naturally, a Mav or Art in a CZ might be er... challenging.

So, if it's a power-on (for example) I will always go to it via my ship instead of using the shuttle service. The ship of choice for me is Viper IV with loads of missile racks in case something goes sideways: I have backup.

The ship also has an SRV bay that carries two SRV's. This means you can drive to the base from a distance and change loadouts as and when. This is especially true if there's a scav infestation. I'll don a Dom (haha) - in the first instance, a loadout with a sniper rifle - and pick them off. If I'm feeling gung-ho, I'll use one of my CZ loadouts.

Once said scavs are despatched - one way or another - I'll switch to a Mav with extra backpack cap. I'll power the base on then go and rob everything I can lay my hands on.

At some point though, you'll get so much stuff, you won't need to be such a kleptomaniac and it's also useful to note that you may have to jetison mats to actually be able to baord your SRV.

Be aware that I have a lot of on-foot gear. This took an AGE to do. It was fun for me... but er... yeah, a time-sink grind as well. It certainly wasn't skill :D

The point is that these services require cargo space, so:

Outfitting

Allows visitors to purchase, sell, store, and transfer modules; the owner can always store and transfer their modules regardless of whether this service is installed. The owner determines which modules to stock for visitors by choosing from multiple quality tiers, with more expensive tiers offering better module selection. Stocked modules are finite, can only be replenished by the owner, and occupy cargo capacity equal to their total mass.

Shipyard

Allows visitors to purchase, sell, store, and transfer ships; the owner can always store and transfer their ships regardless of whether this service is installed. The owner determines which ships to stock for visitors by purchasing one or more themed packs that contain multiple ship models. Stocked ships are finite, can only be replenished by the owner, and occupy cargo capacity equal to their total mass.

I should point out that I have never installed either of these but I remember seeing that there were different packages that you could buy, although it seems that they all have the same "cargo equivalent" penalty. (I have no idea how they can be "replenished" either.)

Still on the planet that looks a bit like Arizona this morning (I did visit the real Arizona dessert in 1991) hunting Fruxeta samples the "heat map" correctly identified as being in these rocky mountains. Can't land the ship easily up here, so it's SRV time. First sample taken. I'll be back for more later. It's not about the credits, it's the challenge this time.

Patience, Grasshopper.

You will get used to it. It, like all things, takes some time to figure out. Once you do, it'll be like everything else in the game you do: second nature.
Aye, guess so. :sneaky:

I was landing on my FC just now and noticed another ship landing on it at the same time on another pad. As I play Solo I'm guessing it must have been an NPC ship and I've been trying to find some kind of log that shows the history of all ships other than my own that land on it, but can't find one anywhere. Looked in Codex as somebody on Reddit seemed to think you can find something like that in there, but I can't find it there either.

Does such a log exist does anyone know and where to find it? Cheers!

NPC's will buzz all around your ship no matter what settings you use. It's just window dressing.

The only "log" you have is if you have an INARA account. Only then can you see who's actually docked there, but they would also have to have an INARA account for it to show up.

So long as you have it set to Friends Only it's not a problem.
