Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

After looking at engineers again and seeing my combat stuff needs so much work it'll be very grindy, I've sort of made up my mind to unlock Selene Jean to lightweight my Conda's armour. I've just bolstered all the shield boosters and mass managed my FSD.

So, yeah. Mining then... another exponential curve to climb :D

<whimper>
She only want 500 tons of ore refined.
</whimper>
She doesn't specify the ore, though. If you don't care about profits, just storm in there with a couple of mining lasers and collector limpets, blasting every asteroid in sight and be done with it in an hour.

edit: Oh and yeah, Para's right, though personally it's against my inner code to throw stuff away. Even if it's just a talc.

The key word in that demand is refined, it doesn’t need to be taken anywhere and sold, it doesn’t need to be a particular type.
Just cut it out of the rock, collect it, refine and dump.

You could do it in this ship
though I wouldn’t seriously recommend it.

You have a choice here. Learn core mining and take a while getting to the 500 mark, or figure out old school mining and just get the task done quickly. You’ll wind up rich the first way, but you can get on with engineering faster the second way.

I think I would do both :)

For doing both rather than use a that Hauler something like this
might do better, 3 lasers will keep the collectors busy, and if you refine and keep Painite that will be useful in the unlocking process.

I have a Krait II kitted out for - what I think could be good - mining. Just never got round to it. It has all the stuffs on board I reckon...

I did try the splody asteroid thing once but I couldn't work out what all those icons on the rock were telling me or what that scanner thing above the info screen was doing. Time to look up that mining guide again.

Guides are for the weak.
I just shoot stuff on other stuff and things stick.

Spaceman Si!

I will ask around about the names! wish I had the jacket still, leant it to my nephew who played male lead in Grease at Eton of all places, never saw it again! I was usually at these things with Ian Ross Bain, Dinger, Donal Ogilvy, barn adams, McNeill brothers etc..we should get the pints in!
I will have a pint of what ever it is you're having.

So as a result of not quitting when tired I now have to decide whether I can live with this:

I really can't get up the enthusiasm to do my "iron man" clear save and face the Engineers rigmarole again for this account. I shall have to let it fester a while and see if I can finally accept an insurance claim on one of my accounts. I suppose people with loads of rebuys will not understand the brain itch that this figure produces.
Boy Racer gone rogue?
I know that feeling. Not worth beating yerself up about a few misplaced pixels.
I have loads of rebuys,my iron man game lasted for all of four minutes.I guess it all depends on how slack you apply the 'rules' to your commander.

Mining these days is actually quite fun and requires a bit of skill, too. It’s one of the better designed bits of the game.

I'm doing old school mining with lasers for the present and my hard-working limpets are bringing me basic minerals like bauxite and gallite. I presume that, once enough of each is collected and refined into a lump worthy of taking up space in the cargo hold, it's deemed as an "ore refined" towards the Selen Jean unlock - is that true?

If I look at my mining stats under the codex, the minerals refined doesn't seem to be incrementing. Where can I see how many I've done? Sorry CMDRs, really basic stuff, I know...

ETA. It's updated now. Just slow methinks.

A line of soap bubbles inside the rock is something subsurface and needs the drilling displacement missile, just hold down the trigger and release it when the cursor is level with a blue blob in the screen to bottom left.

The flower like blob on the surface of the rock is a surface deposit, use the abrasion blaster hold the trigger just long enough for it to fire a short tap doesn’t work.

The wedge shaped one is a fissure and there will be visible cracks on the surface above it this needs the seismic charge launcher which is slow so watch your aim, hold the trigger down to charge the seismic and release to fire the longer you hold the trigger the bigger the charge try to match the size to the fissure, the graph under info shows how close your charges are to cracking the rock in the yellow you need more in the red and it is too much and you will destroy some of the goodies blue is the Goldilocks zone. You can select placed charges in the contacts panel and disable them to get out of the red or trigger them to advance to the ten second count.

Best thing to do is to laser the surface until depleted then abrade the surface, then displace the subsurface, now crack the rock which lets you get all abrasive on the new surfaces.

I didnt even know it was there! :D

Have been hauling cargo with of all ships my Python...
But havent doen it in the past days, taking a break from the game due to personal stuff i need to take care off.

Will be back soon, probrably will head to the void again on a exploratory trip.

I went mining. Up to 97 refines now. I even used an abrasion blaster although I'm not sure it did much - just blew off a chunk of bauxite.

I was just in a standard asteroid cluster so, I think, for my next session, I'll try out one those ringed thingies around a planet.

I'll give the other mining weaponry a go and then scream and curse as to why they're not doing anything. Then I'll RTFM.

LOL. Consider it as your apprenticeship to the realms of high level 'splodey stuff.Soon you too will be diving into vaults heaped high with void opals and other such sparklys,a la scrooge mcduck. You will dine on the finest fare, recline on sumptuous furniture, dressed in exquisite taste and surrounded by fauns, ever ready to fulfill your merest wish. You will be grizzled.

After due consideration, I have determined that you are a good man. As such, I have awarded you a Mulligan. Use it wisely, use it well.

Thanks for that but it's no good, my brain got too itchy...
