Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

There I was, peacefully mining, watching my drones go to work:

I failed to notice a pirate who scanned me, demanded goods, then hit me with a hatchbreaker limpet and then proceeded to blow me up.4.9m CR later, I have a new Krait 2. Ouch.

I got learnt another lesson.
Does it begin with G and end with ood? :)

Yeah, I'm a big fan of point defence (being pretty ropey at combat flying!)
Pro tip: Put the PD on the belly, so it can actually shoot the bloody leech.

I try to always fly with PDT. My most recent clear save has spent some time in H-RES these past two days and there are an awful lot of proximity mines being deployed by the NPCs so the pretty fireworks from the PDT have been quite entertaining.

I like to keep one up top with good forward arc and one slung below with the best arc available to protect the hatch. Unfortunately the Hauler has rubbish tiny hardpoint placement and the small fighters only have them underneath. Maybe I should go 'splodey-miney - not done that since the beta - but I like the small ship progression so not in a rush for the moolah.

Now where did I put my Cobra repaint......

Speaking of "splodey-miney" I currently do it in my Lootkrait, but my overall most favourite ship for this thing is Adder.
You need to find a ring with hotspots and an outpost hanging in close orbit (or even a station, there are such systems) because you're going to do a lot of back'n'forth, but the "sploding" itself and consecutive hoovering of chunks is really fun in Adder. :)

And anyway, all that talk about full PD builds made me want to rewatch the Iron Sky.

The Adder looks like the first ‘splodey-miney ship but I don’t remember where the point defence turrets sit but it wouldn’t take much moolah to try it out and you can always jettison the cargo if you look like getting rich too fast.

I'm currently visiting systems that have been attacked by Thargoids, looking for non human signal sources. I'm kinda finally joining the bug squashing effort (still only fighting scouts though). It's a nice pace of change, more fun than I would have thought to be honest.
I recommend Scout massacre missions from the rescue ships at attacked stations.
Best time for this is Thursday to Sunday, because by Monday the Thargoids have had a good drubbing and the missions disappear.

Yes and then one on the stern to catch missiles and torps one on top because blind spots are bad and one on the bow for mines as well as down the throat missile etc shots after that it would be nice to double up as some people just spam stuff at you. Then suddenly you realise that with 8 utility slots used you haven’t got a Pulse Wave scanner or heat sinks or etc etc.

We need an engineer who can work on the ships not just the modules or maybe a point defence upgrade to turreted weapons which would have to include fast servos and would make the weapon useless for normal work.

Next time, I won't be trying to take touristy photo's, I'll get a PD and watch the radar.

The K2 is quick enough to evade and wake as long as I pip engines and not leave all pips on weapons during lengthy LCBM* consta beams.

*Lasery chunk-blasting mining

Yep, noticed that too. On Sunday evening there was no more Thargoid presence in the attacked systems or nearby ones.
Although during the weekend I managed to do 17-20 missions

Krait Mk.II is really a surprisingly quick ship. I haven't really thought about it, before, always considered Krait to be "that slightly less annoying Python thing", but a couple days ago when I was equipping it for core mining, I've slapped some random thrusters I had laying around on my shelves on and that thing goes over 500m/s. Not too shabby.
It surely can run from any NPC without problems (because they are stupid and don't know how to use boost.

I've been outrunning interdictors like mad in a Krait II I'm kitting out for A11X and SU, so for exploration, not speed; I haven't engineered the thrusters yet either. Yeah they're peppy, even under-powered.
P.S. That build is WIP, and after just completing some rescue missions. Not intended to solicit opinion (just in case), just illustrating the "peppy" point.
