Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

It is interesting to see how a few races with the BRC can change the way you fly.

Until recently, I was an almost fully automated pilot - SCA, ADC - the only exception were planetary landings out in the wild.

And now?
Now I don't need the automation anymore. My approaches and landings still might be a little fumbly at times, but I have built up enough confidence to be able to push through these inconveniences.
What helped me a lot in this regard is the EDCopilot, which, amongst many other features, can announce you the location of the landing pad on all enclosed stations and read out loud the pad number on outposts. Haven't tried terrestial stations, yet, but that is on my agenda to just wing it and see what happens.

Most of my ships will definitely lose their SCA and ADC modules. Only the Heart Of Gold will keep hers, as she is more of a memento than an often used ship. And the Stargazer, which is my material collector, will keep the SCA module, as it is a little tiring to fly from one signal source to the next - and I can use that time to scan some ships that get in my way...

It's getting more crowded than I thought out here, the furthest star shown on the nav panel is a massive 4.1Ly away but the nearest and the next star on my route is only 0.49Ly away, so I should be able to save a jump and just cruise there in around 3 hours based on Hutton Orbital trips.

Yes I know there is no point because the system wouldn't have been fully generated when I got there.

Good on ye! o7
I'll be keeping all my ADCs (except where they get dismounted for BRC races), because ah's set in mah ways, like what us old(ish) folk iz. And I can't really think what else I'd put in that class 1 slot. But I've tried SCA and didn't like it, so never kept it installed.

You may already know this, when I was a rookie first starting out, Codger pointed out that the little bubble level (the dot in the round thingy), will point to your landing pad on all stations and outposts whether you use the ADC or not. It was a huge help. I think you use an xBox controller like I do, when you approach the toaster rack on manual at a right angle, clicking down on your left stick gives you lateral thrusters, another click returns you to standard controls.

Sounds like your ready to start boosting through the slot in your Mamba, great adrenalin rush.

That was something I noticed quite early in my career. But I always struggle to find my pad this way - apparently, I would need a higher resolution (a bigger bubble) to really be able to find the pad...
And to me, it feels like the compass reacts a little slow on entry, particularly for the pads in the front - I often find myself having to back up to get to the pad if I rely on the compass...

Yes, my trusty old XBox 360 controller. Has seen many a game, mostly racing games, though.
I changed that "button" to activate NV, as it always accidentally messed up my flying without me knowing why, at first. I tend to press that stick quite often in tight situations. During the time I used the ADC, I didn't have that bind set at all - now I have a new bind for it. It is a little fumbly if you are in a hurry, but I still have to get used to it, anyway.
I still hope to get one of the Elite controllers with the extra buttons on the underside, one day...

Well, not entirely ready, for various reasons. The main reason being that I first have to buy a Mamba to be able to do that.
The probability that I boost through the mailslot in the Python or Challenger before I am able to lay my hands on a Mamba is quite a bit higher, to be honest.

Just to clarify, I only boost the slot with an outbound ship, never tried it inbound.

I bought a nice controller from these guys Scuf Gaming I think I paid around $200.00 US for it, I have a trashed right hand from when I got hurt in the Marines, an xBox controller works best for me. :)

Well, inbound boosting isn't really on my agenda, but it could always happen by accident. I just hope that I have learned the cargo hatch trick before that happens...
These controllers look really good, sadly their price is a little over what I would call my budget. I love the "Genesis" design, though.

Ignoring racing inboard boosting is really just about getting in to the station before you and your dodgy cargo/passengers can get scanned so generally by the time you are going through the slot your speed should be dropping. At that point all pips to systems and weapons will give you maximum shields, in case the end of the station is too close, and minimal engines. Another thing that can work is switching on the docking computer as you pass through the slot assuming the crash position will at least hide the disaster from view.

Hitting boost so close to the slot that you are still accelerating as you go through tends not to end well no matter what you do.
