Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Tonight, I am going out for kebabs and beer. Like the class act I am.
The first kebab was amazing, in case you were wondering. My friend and I went to a new Turkish restaurant, and it was killer. I'll be going back there.

The kebab I had on the way home after the pub (yes, you read that right) was also very good, albeit in a different way. The takeaway was legendary in the 90s/00s, but Covid and the lockdowns did it no favours. It reopened recently with the same name - big boots to fill. I was impressed, however. It has been impossible, recently, to get a decent post-pub shish kebab in my city. This is no longer the case, and it's on my route home!

I am a very happy monkey.

I made it back to Jaques today and bought an SCO-FSD and rolled it to the max and gained 2Ly on my jump range, now at 70Ly and some change. I'll test it out tomorrow and see how scary it is. (y)

BTW, ship to ship combat got much, much harder after gaining Elite I.

Now we know what Monkey gets up to when he's by himself on those boring Apex trips.

Not sure about that because I'm in the lower expert class, but I found trying level 8 bounty missions to be particularly hard because it involves Fed corvettes. I just warrant scan, run like heck so I can launch my fighter, and hope system security turn up.

Doner? Chilli sauce? The ultimate post pub/club must-have.

Nice. I ended up in Tier B with one quickish trip to HIP 50578. Though I suppose I'll drop down as more people participate. I haven't played for a couple of months and had no cart data so I just got a scan of each body along the way. Along with FSS, of course.

It also occured to me that I haven't fought a Mamba in all my time playing since 2020. I was a little surprised I even saw one while randomly scanning in supercruise. Very weird how they're so elusive. Just a sidenote.

I also tried exobiology for the first time after scanning a planet with four different biosigns. Kind've surprising. I technically dabbled before this but was put off by the fact you have to scan three different samples of each. Though the whole process seemed more fluid this time and not so irritating.

No first footfall though so the payout wasn't great.

The fungoid was a pain to find again so I just gave up on that one. I was really there for the community goal.

Nice pics.
I was already setting up my Mandalay for a grand tour.
This CG was a kickstart to get into exploring again.
Even inside the Bubble there is still a lot to explore as worlds that are over 200000 Ly out are now easily reachable.
I already got several first discoveries and first footfalls.

I prefer hazardous extraction sites and compromised nav beacons where cops don't go, it's great fun when the different factions start fighting one another. My favorite trick with the bigger ships is to snipe them then bolter into the asteroids and wait there, when they arrive start your attack and don't boost, adjust your speed up and down and stay pointed at their belly snuggled up close. They can only hit you with their lesser weapons rather than the more powerful fixed weapons.

I never try to duel with them out in the open otherwise I'll burn through my cell banks and heatsinks, the lower the rank of the pilot, the easier it is to take out the ship. When I get their shields down, I watch their hull integrity closely, if it's not dropping fast enough, I switch to cannons and shift 4 pips to shields. Sidey's and Eagles pretty much evaporate even with an Elite pilot.

What program are you guys recommending for biology hunting now that our old one's aren't compatible. I tried the SCO out and it's like being interdicted, it will take some getting used to.
I am still using Elite Observatory Core with the BioInsights plugin, the nice voices have gone but it will use microsoft ones which aren't too bad.
The graphical changes took a little getting used to but I am mostly back up to speed with it.

I'm using EDEB - ED Exploration Buddy

It does the minimum distance covered alert for biodiversity of colonies too.
Thanks, I'll check that one out.

I'm familiar with this one. As for voices, I almost always listen to music while I'm playing.

I guess I won't need a link for that one.

What I liked about the old one was the possibility of what biology is down there after mapping the surface and distance to your next scan.
EDEB does give info. about possible exo species. It doesn't give exact details, just the potentials. Distance to next scan is definitely there.

You may need to tweak some settings as the program can get quite verbose if you have all notifications on and defaulted. For example, I have the speech setup thus:
