Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I made my way back to my little exploration area that I've staked out, and parked my carrier there again, this time around the water world just for the view.

I plan to stick around here for real this time and do some exploration and relaxed mining. I've already found a few hotspots that look promising, and it's very peaceful way out here. There are no NPCs to bother me, and the only Carrier with a stupid name is mine. :p

I don't usually take the Cutter when checking out a planet surface, but I did today just because I could. It was a very bleak landscape, with just a few fumaroles.

It was a good day.

Good guess, but not quite.
Ok, i'll bite....I am going backwards trying to mine in my cutter, need a good revenue source to expand reserves.
What is your secret? Does it involve relogin..ing ?
I saw the video of the guy who flew his SLF out 22km and kept switching back and forth, and only mined one reoccurring LTD node.

Nope. No exploits. But I do like mining.

Edit: Additional hint - It seems the Inara update missed my last transaction yesterday. It should be +7,686,471,411 credits.

I'd love to know, too - just fitted an 8A power plant to my Cutter (ouch!) and military hull to my Corvette (even bigger ouch) so am down to a relatively paltry 80m cr, having had half a billion in cash 24 hours ago. With a 34m rebuy I need to hit the mining again!

What am I up to? Decided that my gameplay needed a new direction to mark this new, post-Carriers universe. A chap on an Elite FB group was recruiting for his new(ish) Squadron. I have never tried squadrons, discord, inara, BGS, any of this extra layer of stuff. Have had some fun with posses in RDR2 and given the type of player Elite attracts I thought a squadron might be a fun way to change it up in this new era (and with a broken economy - my old revenue-gaining exploits seem a lot more pointless now that they want to have players able to accumulate billions).

So last night I joined a squadron, moved my ships across to the squadron's home base, set myself up a discord account and had a look around. There are eleven of us, discord gives me 'standing orders' (so I know which missions I could take which would help the squadron), they're expanding into a neighbouring system shortly, so I have already pledged my Corvette to the cause. Haven't actually used it in combat, yet (owing to the abortive Colonia expedition), so am looking forward to that (and to improving my combat rank). A couple of the other guys want to wing up in that, so it will be very different. They also mine together, which again will be some interesting gameplay. They're very laid back chaps, am very positive about my early interactions.

It never ceases to amaze me, how many different ways there are to play this amazing game.

It is not an actual 7.5 billion/hour. To let the cat out of the bag, what I did yesterday was to jump my carrier to the high-sell system and haul the (roughly) 4600 tons of low temperature diamonds I had amassed a distance of 0.6 ls from the carrier to the station in a 700+ cargo capacity Cutter.

Aha! Thank you. Yes I made a bit spotting a 1000% trinium markup until it was squashed. Not near that league, though!! Kudos.

It's a good question, Tyres, how does one join your group? I've been trying for days :D Do you have to invite me? I don't seem to be able to find your group listed - or any group, for that matter 😅

Yes, I failed to find Tyres' group. However another friend walked me through it on Xbox last night, as my new squadron operates in a private group sometimes. I had been trying to access the group from the main login screen, hit 'continue' and then having the choice of Open or Solo, there was a third options for Groups. I had tried in there, but it only gave me the option to form my own group. However, the method for joining someone else's group was actually in the pause menu. I had to be logged in to the game, then hit pause, then select 'social', and from there I could explore groups. Will look for Tyres' tonight.

Oh, really? Great info! Ta!

In all honesty, I don't know!

Perhaps someone can enlighten me. I've created the group and set it to auto-accept. What else should I do?

I don't think that you do anything else. If you didn't have that turned on, then we would click 'join' and you'd get the opportunity to accept. With auto-accept turned on, you don't have to do the second bit, but we still have to find the group to click through.

Works on Xbox - and, appealingly, in a nostalgic way, for a former Civil Servant, I am here dispensing advice on the basis of one successful attempt having been a clueless novice myself this time yesterday - but that was the method for Xbox. I have no idea whether and to what extent the system differs across platforms. I hope to join your group tonight, at which point I will be more clear. The whole interface seemed a bit clunky tbh (the joining bit, not the being in a group bit).

That is invaluable! Thank you very much indeed :)

I would never have even considered looking in the paused menu. The most "obvious" place would have been through the "Groups" menu during the login process, but like you, I had only ever seen the ability to create my own group! Incidentally, it looks as though you can't choose a group name, it seems like the group is always the same name as the commander who creates it :)

I look forward to joining the Tyres O'Flaherty group later, and asking to borrow twenty quid(*) ;)

(I'm assuming everyone has seen "Spaced" at some point, to get that reference 😅 )

Since I found this corner of the forum, it has always been the best part for me. I have to say, following @Codger on his travels in his FC is making me want one more and more. I have about 3bn in credits, low stock in assets otherwise. I guess I'll get there. I'm actually hoping that by the time I have the cash, some of the FC wrinkles I read about elsewhere on here will have been ironed out.

So thank you @Codger not only have you made me keep an eye on my credits and convinced me I want something I was convinced I didn't want (teasing on both) but your honest tales have made it more appealing than any other thing I have read on here.

No problem at all, I am just pleased to be a contributor rather than a knowledge parasite for a change! It is very odd that Elite splits the groups into those two locations, entirely counter intuitive, imho. I don't think I would ever have found it left to my own devices. It was only last night, trying to join the squadron, with a Discord chat open on my 'phone, staring dumbly at the Xbox screen, Discord chap telling me 'I have sent you an invite, I can see it sitting there, you just need to click on it', me responding with a blank 'I'm sorry, I can't see it anywhere', when the kind squadron leader said 'you are looking in the pause menu, aren't you..?'... oh. Mercifully, the exchange had been full of charm and bonhomie, so no particular reputational harm was done. I do feel the need to be a particularly stalwart member of the squadron, though, after such a hapless introduction.

(And yes absolutely - worth watching for that amazing cast alone!)

Tonight is gonna be a large one. You lucky people. Oy oy!

Sounds like a tax-dodge to me. When the Galatic tax authority checks your assests you've only got 4600 tons of rocks. I knew an opal miner that did that (in RL!).

Dangerous things assumptions.

From the pause menu I can find Cmdr Tyres O'Flaherty, apart from them always being offline for 1 or more hours, but cannot find the group.

Hmmm - I thought they had fixed that. I remember there was an issue trying to join FLEETCOMM and the Mobius groups a while back in that you couldn't search for the group any more. Looks like it is back as I just checked and could not search for a group nor could I apply to join a group of someone on my friends list who I know has an active PG. So seems all you can do now is invite a friend to your group.

This is obviously a bug as you have the option to allow your PG to accept any request to join - no need to approve - so why have that option if you can't apply to join someone's PG.
