Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Yes, the "tyres" on the SRV are going to have to change to make them absorb the rough terrains. Or some kind of skimming over the top. It's actually too easy to get stuck in crevice and then using the upward thrusters to get out only to find yourself flipping over.

And I found myself crashing into camouflaged flora quite a lot.

Busy re-integrating with the forum following catastrophic communications failure.

The last two weeks has been a bit of a knightmare. Sag A* lay 6kly's behind me, and suddenly my comms link was severed. At first it was a minor irritant, but it did require a substantial ammount of time each day finding, testing and implementing the correct PEBCAC protocols until the link was finally restored..In the meantime,

i've drifted a further 16kly's southish, picking up the odd WW or AW, crossing into Temple a few days back and making my way towards my first waypoint .
I gradually became aware of a nebula some 5 or 600ly's below the galactic plane, a diversion to which would not take me far off my projected course towards waypoint 2 a further 7kly's beyond.
I'm not sure how nebula naming works in ED, but for me i could only think to dub it The Rose, due not only to it's delicate hue but also it's form as it appeared to me.

The closer i got the more it seemed to be acting as a beacon and the more hopeful i became that some form of life lay as yet undiscovered within. So it was slightly disturbing to run across the tracks of another commander 90 lys out. In the old days, before carriers, i might have welcomed the sight of another commander whom happenstance had placed in my path, but now my feeligs are more mixed, judging any appearance as indication of possible carrier presence , so i skirted the nebula without investigating further, holding my breath with eyes on stalks as i crept past and tiptoed away.

Next time i visit i may well do so in an exploration carrier of my own, for it is a pretty sight, as i'm sure you will agree.

Beware the Odyssey rocky planets then, absolutely infuriating - we really need a redesigned SRV if these surfaces are going to be common:

(It is actually worse than it looks in that screenie.)

Lost 29% hull just driving to an outcrop and this MM triplet. Not a happy bunny.
Well they did change the SRV, then the community whined about it and they changed it back.

I've spent a ton of time playing Odyssey for the last few weeks. I really like it a lot - it adds a great deal to the gameplay.

Here's me doing a mission after a barbecue.

I know its for gameplay but the fact that main weapons on multi hundred ton ships take so long to flatten a human sized target spoils my immersion.

Along with the fact that some handheld rifles cost more than a couple or trio of FTL spaceships.
I appreciate this, but it's still fun cooking people with lasers. :)

After buying and outfitting a ship, I never think of how much it costs.

I think, with regard to the FTL-capable ship vs. the cost of a rifle, that this is not such a glaring issue as it might at first seem - my first car cost less in real terms than the computer I'm typing this message on. The Sidewinder even has the second-hand aesthetic. I think of them as like used cars.

Just went to the listening post in Sol and saw that the name I submitted as a memorial is there! O7!

Now i'm back in Snot, stacking assassinations. Still trying for an ally rank on all factions so I can earn some better cash as, to date, my main income source has been mining and I need an alternative.

EDIT

Oh my days. Two missions, two deadly Federal Corvettes! First time I've had to deal with an "equal" as it were. What amazed me is that they were easy, just took a lot of ammo. I was expecting something far nastier :D

Well, I have mentioned this before to others and a couple have used the beat-up car vs latest tacti-cool rifle in the real world as a counter-argument.

But I dont think a car is an appropriate analogy since the Sidey has FTL, comes with weapons and (Horizons) even its own car (SRV) and garage and that SRV has shields and guns (which presumably comes close in performance/size to the 100k laser gun) too.

Its like comparing an assault rifle to the smallest weapon carrying aircraft (some prop or jet trainer) in the real world.

For some reason, I have more problems fighting deadly FDLs compared to Corvettes/Condas/Cutters. The big ships are easier for me in my Krait. Problem is when they bail at high hull% I cant stop them fast enough.

Flying Rocks - they do still exist.

Found this little deposit a few jumps back in Temple.Hopped the border into Vulcan's Gate snagging a nice nitro magma bonus on my way out., and it's a long blast into the dark across the wasteland of lonely stars. Currently parked up and waxing lyrical beneath the glittering canopy.
