Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

I was just jumping between stars when BLAP, Elite ctd on me. Now I just know, I'mma log into the game and be face planted deep into some star. Plus, I'll have to totally replot my entire course. again. I had just plotted a 13600 ly course as my goal for tonight. Drat!
Don't forget to at the very least 'HONK'!!
Do it while your fuel scooping or as your charging for the next jump.
Cash the data in when you get there. (y)

Thats the D-Scanner. It sounds like a 'honk' when the scan finishes.

Seriously though, I think I am more worried about you losing your data then you yourself do!
huh. I've not used it once in almost 5k ly's. welp... guess I will.
This game really needs better tutorials. Half the stuff I should know, I've no clue about. And I know 1/8 of knowing what I should know so I can learn what I should know.

After an exploration trip that started last summer, focusing mostly on the Vulcan Gate area, I finally got my carrier and fleet to Colonia. Been some time since I was there, so we're parked in a quiet uninhabited system getting ready to watch the Odyssey launch!

Then I will probably go visit the center of the Galaxy for old times sake! :D
Won't you be grabbing stuffs for planetry on-foot er... stuff then? Assuming you're on PC that is and are actually getting the exoac, of course!

If you were in the middle of a jump you should log in back in normal space at the point that jump started as you are in normal space it will take ages to face plant a star, the fuel for the ‘failed’ jump will be gone but opening the galaxy map should replot the route though as your fuel state has changed the route could well alter.

There's a website that lets you plot long courses and then produces a checklist for you to follow. I have used it a few times on long trips, so that I can log off and then come back to where I was at any time. It has a few different plotters for various needs.

Of course it's only good if you have known start and end points. It doesn't help much if you're in undiscovered territory.

Anyway, it's a tool worth knowing about:

It's at https://spansh.co.uk/

But that feeling when you find the thing for the thing you needed to do and that leads you to discovering a thing you didn't even know was a thing is so satisfying.
Unless you assume you should be able to do a thing and look for a thing to do it only to discover it's not really a thing in Elite. That's frustrating.

Downside of using Spansh is that the plotters rely on player provided star data, i.e. each and every star listed (or used) there has been visited (and uploaded) by a player.
That means you'll never encounter a (fully) unexplored system while using these routes.

It's time to go into cryosleep for 72 hours until we get our gear for planetary footfall shenanigans. I may "wake up" to look over reports from genpop about how things are progressing on the morrow although I expect much howling, teeth gnashing and patchwork to be incoming. Especially as it approaches and passes 18:00 UST.

"Is it up yet?" ™

I shall attempt to don my mag boots and Maverick - or Artemis - suit on Thursday.

Fingers crossed in my Remlock mitts that all goes well.

I don't know, but I'm expecting many surprises, as with all releases I've participated in so far! I wonder if they'll surpass the "god weapons that shouldn't exist" from that first round of Engineering. That was most impressive.

But with all the changes to the UI, plus all the new content, plus running Horizons code alongside Odyssey code on the same servers...it's gonna be a fun ride, I bet :)
