Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

The meteorite outcrops seem to be new to Odyssey - or, at least, I've not encounterd them in Horizons which is entirely possible - and they seem to yield higher grade raws than yer typical bronzite and mesosoderite...
Metallic meteorites were in Horizons. That's where you were finding the highest rarity stuff (sub-2% yields in the material makeup). I think they are 1-3 line on the wave scanner as opposed to 2 line for Mezosiderite, 2-3 line for Bronzite and 1-4 line for general outcrops.

I may be also misunderstanding this whole conversation, though.

Oh, I tried the turret once.
I see. Well, what you gotta do is practice until you can maneuver at least somewhat while in turret mode, cuz you can drive one direction while pointing the turret another way. It's quite fun once you get a little skill with it. And the auto-aim ability is very useful. Makes up for my bad aim a bit.

But I've spent a lot of hours in the old SRV, so it's fairly comfy for me.

This is funny, because that used to be the only way to get those mats. And now that Odyssey has messed up the mats for geo and bio sites, we've come full circle back to meteorites. I've spent many hours scouring for meteorites, but that was back in the day. I guess it's back, lol. I don't consider that progress.

I don't consider that progress.
They are much more common, now, though. (Maybe that's why some people only noticed them now and think they're a new thing)
I have found quite a few every time I spent a couple minutes in the SRV.

The way they distribute mats seems to be much more chaotic, now, however. (chaotic as in "unpredictibly random", as opposed to previous "predictible random" in Horizons)
For example, I needed Arsenic (I'm engineering my first FSD). I found a planet with 2% Arsenic and I have been finding lots Meteorites for about an hour. Yet the ONLY Arsenic drop I've had was from a normal Outcrop.
I mean... 🤷‍♂️

looking for tech broker ATM i know there one around here somewhere, just got to remember where he is, has I found out I'll didn't pick up the Hn-shock mounts. found some in a few jumps away. Now cant remember the tech broker location :)

If you've been there and he's close by, there's a galmap filter for that ("services", I think). Otherwise, try the "nearest" tab on Inara.

Dominoe wants stuff. She likes it. And I've not even seen most of the stuff she wants... looks like it's grindin' time.
Yes, it is. Inara is being nice and keeping track of my progress for me. I have some of the stuffs. I need more Weapon Inventory, Chemical Inventory, and Digital Designs. These are all data items. I've found some in data ports, and got a couple as mission rewards. It's fairly slow going, but it's going :)

YL Badlands again. Not really a problem as long as i keep an eye on the guage.Used 21 polonium before i ran out of targets to jump to, so about ten each way.En route to planet to restock arsenic then i'll put in for the night.Grazing.Scored 2 from mesoderites and some other stuff that i'd used.Keepng eyes peeled for polonium, but i'm in no hurry.Still got 129 max jumps with injection.
Power Plant @68 hull @91.
My nearest tech broker is in White Sun, but i don't think it's going to be much use to you.:).
P.S.If you really want to give them a surprise, hide behind something ( a fold in the ground or a building) and pop up with your vertical thrusters.Depending on the gravity of the planet you are on, you can extend your range somewhat by gaining height briefly. You don't even have to be moving !
I like flying my ship.I like the landing.I like the taking off.i like the flying inbetween bits. i even enjoy getting out and about in the srv occasionally,(although mainly the flying bits, like when you fall off a mountain or hitting the boost button at max accel on the rise.) The feel of it,you know?

Sites would be an exaggeration, occasionally you would find two or three within targeting range of each other mostly it was just individuals found by using the SRV scanner.
Just landed at an Irregular marker, in the distance an outcrop and 4 metallic meteors. Has Fdev fixed something?
Edit: I see the strong scanner lines in the SRV. Never seen them that solid before. The more meteorites the better (y) :D:geek:
Edit2: There everywhere...it's like they just fell from the sky....😄(y):coffee:
Edit3: I am on a high metal content world , do you think that makes a difference to the likelihood finding meteorites??

Today I had my first hostile encounter with a PvP Mamba. I was cruising around the CG space when I noted 2 hollow squares-a Corvette and a Mamba. The Corvette went its way but the Mamba kept positioning toward the back of my Cutter. I did not mind.

Then the interdiction came. I promptly submitted and started to boost away. That Mamba was armed for PvP since I noted that it was launching attacks that were producing damage to my internals despite my 6000 MJ shields. No problem. I just low waked and then dropped to normal space. Once there, I just selected another system to hi wake. I checked the damage and it was very minimal.

My Cutter is built to be able to escape at will.

The beauty of the Cutter is that it cannot be mass locked by anything other than another Cutter, planets, stations, FCs or mega ships.

In the conflict zone yesterday, I noted a human Chieftain that was already without shields and was in the opposing side. I decided to engage it and I was able to defeat it.

it seems that a G5 Cutter, while not invincible, is a relatively safe ship to go around in open.

It does that huh. I need to go figure out how to activate and view it. My Inara auto-upload always breaks down every few days.

edit : OK, uploaded, can I ask a question.

Are these the only list of stuff needed for upgrades? There are a whole bunch of other goods and data and whatnot in my inventory from Odyssey. The stuff not in the above list is NOT needed for engineering and I can trade them for stuff in the above list?

I am really confused.

I think the presence of asteroid fields within the system is a far more likely explanation as to the availaility of mesoderites etc. :giggle:

I believe you can trade stuff, yes. Looking at the requirements for the Odyssey engineers, they're not something I'll be actively pursuing as they need loads of bits that are too grindy to obtain. The backpack increase is one I do want though.

i hope they sort those error's out soon, i getting mauve, and orange errors. that why I'm back in horizons for the moment.to work on guardian stuff mainly. Has the foot fall seems to cause more problems with user accounts than i like. 3 times i have lost the account for days on end. Until i log out of ED: launcher and validated files over and over again.

Did you find the G3 arty?
One, no extras ,at Chicoana system - Hale platform. ( at this post time )
Yep, got one thanks to @Codger

I was a bit dispirited at the amount of materials needed by the Odyssey engineers (they are not exactly prolific in their availability either) so I went mining. Noted a couple of small changes: firstly, my lasers have turned into very fine beams on some colours; secondly, the sound has been tweaked a little - I can now hear a "crucnh" each time a fragment breaks loose from the 'roid.

Once I've mined a few hundred tons, I'll get back to some on-foot missions I think. Or exo exploration. I don't know why that appeals to me so much, but it does :D

The Bartender is the material trader guy of suit mats. An other post steam, says to trade up tp max quantity of graphene, microelectrodes, and weapon components.
Then trade back down as you want to engineer stuff..
Currently nearly opened engineers on both accounts. Taxi travel is easy. Combat in low missions is also not the difficult. you just die a few times less.

I ought to try some combat. I just don't like dying - makes me come over all inferior :D

Another thing I want to try is dumbfire splatterisation of foot soldiers. Ludicrous gibs. I'm going to fit out one of my unused hulls for such stuff. Possibly one of the Alliance ships.

A question I keep asking myself: why do I want to keep making credits? I have everything I need that money can buy. Maybe it's time to kick back and just spend.
