Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

After 8 'low' Conflict Zones in my iCourier today...

2 victories
2 ran away to survive
1 lost but still present
1 accidentally shot an ally, every blip went red; ran away
1 ship crippled; had to leave despite the bar being almost green
1 sudden violent death when multiple enemies targetted me at once

Feel like I may have done my adopted faction more harm than good. Hope the BGS only counts wins not failures 🙀

Went to a resource site with the same loadout (3x efficient burst lasers with different special effects) that had gotten me killed in the final CZ. Picked up 2 mil worth of bounties. Python, multiple vipers, cobras, adders, eagles... nothing was a problem. Only had my shields go down once, and that was because the game wasn't marking the guy attacking me as red (think he was in a wing and I killed his buddy). If I'd actually known I was being shot at, I don't think anything would have touched my hull the whole time.

Vs in a CZ, where a single viper is a 50/50 bet, assuming he doesn't get backup. It really doesn't help that NPCs there immediately target me, even if they were already exchanging fire with someone else.

The gulf of difficulty is a bit alarming... CZs feel a bit "big ships and maxed engineering" and that's rather sad.

Also sad is that I can't change armour type outside of an imperial starport 😾

Oh well. Gonna have a go with a vulture, but I'm not sure I can engineer it fully. Don't really want to pay for a tricked out FDL... if the vulture can't handle a low CZ, I'll just leave it.

(Side note; first impressions, vulture has major power issues... sigh.)

Conflict Zones have always been home to much tougher targets than almost anywhere else, the difference between warships and mere pirates.

The enemy NPCs are much better at spotting the highest threat and swarming you rather than your allies*, it has been claimed that you can exploit this by ensuring your ship isn’t the highest threat but this involves formation flying with an ally while in something like a Sidewinder.

*In the old style CZs where NPCs arrived as a wave whenever either side was down to one or two you could suddenly find yourself in the middle of a newly arrived enemy fleet all of whom would attack.

You don’t necessarily need a big ship but you really don’t want to waste space on anything that doesn’t boost your attack or defence. You need to keep a close eye on your shields and when they are about to fail if your ship is fast enough you can just runaway out of range* while they recover or jump out, a top tip for this is to have a nearby system that you can see from the CZ preselected as a jump destination as a hyper jump isn’t messed up by the ships around you.

*You can often lure a couple of enemies away from the fight this way which lets you fight at much more favourable odds.

Marginal (at best) power is the Vulture‘s main feature, engineering can fix it of course but fitting lower power modules and paying attention to the power priorities to ensure the right modules shut down when the guns come out can make it workable.

^This^ It is still the way now, in medium intensity CZ, those spec ops wing spawn this way. Always pay attention to the position of your allies, don't try to save those swarmed by enemy( bad a__ ), assists those swarming the enemy instead. Do NOT chase lone target, always shoot at the one your allies shooting.

You will get better chance to survive and even win the CZ this way.

BTW.... was trying to tick some CZ missions, the payout at the first glance is appealing, but then when I take a closer look to the details...

The kill counts almost doubled comparing to those massacre missions and given that CZ targets are much harder than those pirates... meh... why should one bother to take those..... (n) 😒🤷‍♀️

^That^ is how to win the CZ for your side rather than just earn stuff for yourself.

The Spec Ops wing is only 4 ships, not the whole fleet, and can be beaten
  1. When their arrival is announced be prepared to run/get close to strong allies so you don’t get swarmed.
  2. Wait before attacking them until they are shooting at your allies.
  3. Never attack the Alpha while the rest of the wing is alive, they will come and assist him.
  4. Take the Delta, Gamma and Beta elements first they rarely assist each other.
  5. Before going for the Alpha recharge shields and synthesise any ammo needed.
Pay particular attention to your shields Spec Ops carry enzyme weapons in addition to their other engineered equipment.

OMFG....Accidentally jumped in a high intensity CZ and see capital ship with my own eyes for the first time!!!!!!!!!

By following the rules above, my side won.

So, a question popped up, I checked system status in Inara, instead of the winning streaks of my Low/Med. intensity CZ for the holding fractions, seems none counted to the outcome of the civil war, only high intensity CZ result counts then???

Right.

Er...

I just made a video. As video's go - it's well ropey. I've never done one before. It used OBS Studio and I captured it in the highest quality I could. I was trying to show what the chrome paint job looks like on the Chieftain. Treat me gently - I'm a video virgin. (best viewed in HD 2160 full screen)

does look non shiny and black in the video or is that just ody, does it work better in horizons?

added a photo from blender. not the best 3d rendered version of chrome but it shows some reflectiveness.
youtube does compress videos automatically.so it could be that.

it is shiny in video, but it seems to loose a lot of fresnel detail.all i saying, and it hard material to make in blender along with water.:)

There are some fairly low (7-9) kill count missions - but they pay like a million. Or I could kill 7-9 pirates who's collective bounty is at least twice that. Honestly, only reason I can find for running CZs is you either just like the challenge, or you want to move the BGS to favour a particular faction.

I was going for the latter, but if I get shot up this hard in a low, then I don't think there's a lot of point. Would have been nice if low meant it was suitable for intermediates, even if the BGS points were lower. Feel like I'm probably better doing those wartime delivery/recovery missions; or carrying poll data around whenever it's an election for my favooured faction. Bit less interesting, but that's life.

LONG RANGE LAZORS FTW

You know, I had been wondering about trying a sniper. The number of NPCs in CZs that can just pinpoint me from long range with railguns/plasmas is surprising, but I'd absolutely need gimballing because I simply cannot aim. Never been good at fps gameplay, and that does translate a bit to ED's ship-ship combat :D

Meantime, I've been experimenting with a vulture... as much as I wanted to go with double inertial burst lasers, I just don't think I can. The power drain is too high for this thing's tiny PP. Even with a pair of multicannons, it's constantly on the brink and I can't seem to budget more than 2 shield boosters and a KWS... everything needs the low power engineering effect. Not sure how this thing is supposed to work with stock parts!

In other news, gosh I'm starting to hate this "your enemy doesn't go red" bug. I know FDev are aware of it, but could they have been aware enough of it to make it a priority urgent fix on the day it was found? Because I am consistently getting smacked around by ships I don't know I'm in combat with. Every time I take hull damage in a resource site, it's because the first guy was part of a wing and I can't figure out which of the other ships is his buddy!

Don't fool us man, that's no paintjob, that's cloaking device! How and where you get that!!! 😏
