Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Aye, I did see those in the Wiki for this region before I left the Bubble and thought about going there. In fact, I bought a Research Limpet Controller before I left the bubble specifically for that. Only trouble is it's 6,000-odd LY from where I am right now and right out of my way, as I'm pretty much ready to head back to the bubble before I run out of Tritium, after I've finished exploring a few local systems in the Asp X around where my carrier is now.

However, I've targeted Eorgh Hypa RR-U c19-0 as a waypoint for my carrier on the way back, as it shows in the Codex for Kepler's Crest region as having Gyre Pods. (No Gyre trees though.) I don't have a Limpet Research thingy on the Asp X as no room for one, but might fit the one in my outfitting temporarily to my Anaconda, just to give that ship a bit of a run out when I get there.

As I mentioned earlier, this trip was an experiment to see how far I could get with only a total of 11,500 tons of Tritium in the hold and depot to see how the gradually improving fuel consumption as it's being used up might benefit the range of my carrier.

Wow, that’s quite a journey! i wonder what the official record for FC distance from Sol is …and whether or not you’ve just broken it? :)

…also quite intriguing reading about the inaccessible 1500 LY area of stars within the Xibalba region - how far is that gap? …just wondering if a carrier could cross it - with enough fuel to get back of course ;]

Saw this comment on the Gyre Tree fandom page (in amongst all the pop-up video windows & other screen cluttering junk ;p) - looks like Gyre Pods & Trees are quite difficult to reach, wherever they are:

For the trees at Kepler's Crest, an engineered AspX with just over 61LY jump range should travel about two thirds east along that region's stellar arm, then turn back to plot a course south west to LYED ON-B D13-0. You shouldn't require any jumponium to reach that point, there's a faint 'bridge' between the main and far outer arms in the region that can be crossed.
From there, the route to the Gyre Tree system is:
LYED NN-B D13-0 (50% Jumponium) - 84.55LY
LYED IH-D D12-0 (100% Jumponium) - 116.06LY
LYED EB-F D11-0 (25% Jumponium) - 76.65LY (might need 50% if you're not far enough over 60LY).
LYED AV-G D10-0 (50% Jumponium) - 87.36LY
LYED YJ-I D9-0 (50% Jumponium) - 91.4LY
Don't get too close to the pods at the ends of each spinning arm, I hear they spew caustic clouds. 600m away was perfectly safe.

…anyway, all bests with the epic return journey - send some more postcards along the way, especially those Gyre things! :]

I've wondered if the Gyre pods and trees are somehow related to the thargoids..

That’s an interesting question - the Thargoids must have evolved from something, somewhere, a very long time ago… possibly they’ve been collecting genetic material and incorporating other species’ bio systems / defenses from all over the galaxy for eons already? :alien:

I'm pretty sure I haven't broken any records for carrier distance from Sol. I think I was further than this by at least 500 LY when I visited Sag A the other week, but in any case I'd imagine quite a few carriers have visited Beagle Point by now and that's just over 65,000 LY from Sol. There's also a system even a bit further than that in the same region- the furthest known one from Sol apparently.

My understanding of the unreachable group of stars in Xibalba is that they're beyond even a carrier range of 500 LY, so unless FDev does something to improve that it looks like they will never be reached. And I haven't checked but wouldn't be surprised if some of the other regions out at the edge have large gaps with unreachable stars in them as well.

Thanks for the info about the Gyre things btw - my carrier should be arriving in a system that has them in Kepler's Crest region on the way back. :geek:

Found the Shards by the way and they were dropping Ruthenium. I already had some anyway but am now full up on that. (y)

I visited a few more local systems in Xibalba and managed to get a bit more salad but I'm now getting withdrawal symptoms from all those CZs in the bubble. :D

I still have a little more than 6,500 tons of Tritium in the hold and depot, so I only used about 5,000 tons to go 25,000 LY - well a bit more than that actually as I didn't go direct as the crow flies (if crows DID fly in space of course. :p) I won't be going back in a direct route either but as the fuel is being used up the consumption rate does seem to be improving quite a bit.

This name rings an odd bell for me.

When my kids were young I used to watch the kids' movies with them.

We saw one that was about some adventurers looking for gold, and they ran across an ancient tribe that worshipped Xibalba (pronounced she-BAL-bah).

The adventurers were trying to convince the tribe leader to give them all the gold, but the leader didn't want to do that. Instead he offered to sacrifice all the gold to Xibalba. The adventurers agreed, thinking that they could just grab the gold from wherever it got put for the sacrifice.

But then the leader shouted excitedly, "To Xibalba!", and shoved all the gold off the cliff into a huge waterfall with a whirlpool so the gold would not be recoverable after all.

I don't know why that scene has stuck with me all these years. lol.

This is quite interesting - should we be posting it in the great Raxxla thread, or might they know about it already…? ;]

I read that EDDB is shutting down. The author's been doing it for 8 years and he's moving on.

So if you use EDDB, it's not going to be there much longer.

It's the end of an era, I suppose.

That is rather sad news - i still refer to EDDB quite regularly, especially when my “ship’s computer” is my phone or ipad… i guess it’s INARA from now on then?

Tin foil moment quite possibly, but i can’t help thinking about the “Omphalos Rift” myth (or legend?) in relation to this - it was meant to be out there, somewhere beyond the Formidine Rift?

And, with reference to “Xibalba”, which appears to have been an underworld structure, with a journey full of extreme tests in Mayan mythology… perhaps leading to an “El Dorado” of some kind… the R-word is on the tip of my tongue again…

Hmmm… :geek: :sneaky:

Must admit i started to get an itchy trigger finger the last couple of weeks out on the Elysian Shore - i have only one account, only one game save even since my start… but perhaps it’s time to get an Alt at last - in part to help with recording more complex setups, but also to be able to drop in on settlements & CZ’s readily while ]M[ is out exploring :]

Nice - what is your total carrier weight now? …and how many LY per unit of Tritium are you getting?

I'm back in Kepler's Crest region now and found a system with three high-metal planets, each of which had two bio signals. As I've mentioned before, in my experience these are pretty much always Bacterium and Stratum Tectonicas and so it proved to be in this case as well. :geek:

Stratum 07.png

Anyway, the hefty First to Log Vista bonus I got for this finally caused me to reach the end of the line in salad promotions and I'm now Elite V.

I'll still be on the lookout for bios though when I'm exploring, so I can get loads more loadsamoney that I'll never be able to spend...

Not a good day to start. Died in the shutdown field... probably from a medusa....it insta dropped my shield then rip my ship apart.

In full rage, I took out 2 cyclops in 10 mins in a medium AX CZ.

Was caught in the lightning on the last kill, but then i remember someone in those AX guide videos said, don't bother try to move away after getting hit by lightning, just turn to the intecreptor and shoot! I did the same, dropped it shield and finished it off.

Time for lunch now.

So what I am up to is trying to get up a Federation rank or two because of reasons. I'd like to do it by picking a faction, building rep with them, and then rinse and repeat until they give me a ranking mission. I've got a bit tired of being a jack-of-all-trades freelancer.

BUT I'd like to do this with SRV missions if possible. Is there an easy way to know which faction and what bases are likely to give me SRV missions?

It felt like I saw them all the time until now, but needless to say now I actually want those missions I've come up dry at about the last 10 bases I tried...

(I am hanging around right near Vega because I'll be buying a bigger Federal ship just as soon as I get that rank to unlock it)

From what I have seen, the availability of certain missions is tied to the state of the system.

\o/ Gratz on the ranking! Radishes are on you :D

Haven't been playing much lately due to life and stuff. C'est la vie! Should be rectified now though :D
