Weee! Another one!

The Torval ones were a CG reward that were made available there, we were also given the system permit. TBH they are of very limited use.

... yet the Wiki about the Mining Lance says:

"As a result, the Mining Lance is completely obsolete, and no longer worth unlocking in safe mining environments."

I bow to other's experience since I have never used either but I did toy with the idea of trying to get the modded version to use on a T8 miner - then I went mining in a Python and decided I was a very happy camper in that.

I don't do PP, so I can't say how it's involved.

AFAIK, it's just something you can get that is pre-engineered, well, you bring the "parts" and they will modify a mining laser.
Yeah I got confused about that when I did some mining so I did some reading:

powerplay reward: Mining Lance https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Mining_Lance

Torval mining modified mining laser: https://elite-dangerous.fandom.com/wiki/Mining_Laser

I have not tried to get either, not done pp and not tried to get the permit for that system.
Ah. Didn't know that there was another modded laser. Cheers.
What do you all think of the new ship coming out, the Corsair? It's like a super Python, stats-wise. It looks to be useful and powerful.

But...it's so weird looking. At least I think so. lol.
Many saw a toucan in that ship. But that was with the blocky teaser images of february's stream.
The actual ship has to me more of the look of a shrunken Romulan Warbird.

The beak/bow and the front of the hull reminds me of modern yacht/motor yacht designs, the size and angles of the wings and nacelles reminds me of the Imperial Courier from the old Frontier: Elite II especially with rotating components visible in there. It also reminds me of something else but I am not sure quite what.

Hi :)

It's okay, I guess 🤷‍♂️
The cockpit doesn't blend in with the rest of the ship somehow, I'm not liking the bars around the canopy much either. As for the overall shape it doesn't float my boat to be honest.

Jack :)

I watched "The Abyss" on Netfix the other day - I saw no ships.

OK - It was the Swedish film with the same title in English - I watched it 'cos of Tuva Novotny and Angela Kovacs as they were a bit of a crush some years ago. So "Avgrunden" in Swedish and involves a collapse of the mine under Kiruna - in real life the city of Kiruna is being moved 3km to the east, building by building because of the mine workings.

The film was OK but no aliens, nuclear subs etc etc ...

The main ship on the American "The Abyss" is the Benthic Explorer (iirc) with "Deep Core" being the submersible and mobile drilling rig. The other ship (or boat) was the Montana - a sub - which ran into a few issues when the captain decided to try and squeeze it into a narrow canyon and the NTI doodah rocked it in it's bow wave.

I love Ed Harris as an actor and he was superb in this movie. However, he was eclipsed by his "wife". Because, Mary Elizabeth Mastrantonio.

EDIT: the theatrical version is bit lacking and it's definitely worth watching the special edition as it makes far more sense.

Yes and the Orson Scott Card novelisation is also very good at expanding back story and what is going on, and much more readable many of his own works.

I did a little search and found some info on Wikipedia and the trailer to that movie. There is an american atomic sub that gets stranded somewhere close to Cuba.
They send a Navy Seals team to a mobile drilling rig to recover what's left from that sub. Things go - as you would expect - awry due to some issues with the leader of the Seals team who catches some sort of diver's disease.
Shipwise, well there is a morphing non-human being that seems to have taken the form of something that might resemble distantly the Corsair at some point, but from that short glimpse the trailer gave, it looks more like a giant manta ray. The human ships are all as expected, a submarine and a small submarine.

ya special edition makes the movie................
Yes but a few frames later and they are revealed to be towers on the edge of the alien thing and somewhat dwarfed in the middle are some warships the rig/diving support vessel and the underwater drilling platform, with more than enough room to park an iCutter there as well.

The scale makes the comparison less obvious.
