Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

My work here is done.

A nice little ELW:

Hi :)

I'm just vaguely remembering this ya'all mentioning dolphins, but it was either in Frontier Elite 2* (or possibly Elite First Encounters) that had a mission or missions where you had to transport some dolphins somewhere?
I also personally think this mission was also a kinda reference to the Star Trek movie (where the idea might have come from) where they went back in time to save / transport a whale (The Voyage Home)....maybe, but it does appear 'suspicious' as the movie was released in 1986, and Elite 2 was released in 1993. ;)
There again senility might be fast approaching.

What am I doing...just rounding up some missions I'm doing for my own Outpost station, trade based, nothing spectacular (gold, silver and palladium) but it's paying well. I'm also seeing if it has any marked affect on the facilities and other stuff in the system, (everybody living here are all extremely happy at the moment)! :giggle:
Plagued by pirates though because of the stacked missions, and security in the system is next to s** all!...plus I can't fly my 'Tank' Cutter to the port directly, and I'm having to use a Mk1 Python to ferry the stuff from my carrier which I'm using as a storage depot in the same system. No problem though. :D

Edit ...* Pretty sure it was Elite 2

Jack :)
Pirates, you say? I intended to make that my first or second port of call tomorrow anyway. It looks like there's some cash to be made.

OK! After 6 months of fraternising with weeds and avoiding triffids, I finally managed to obtain ELITE status in exo-biology.
But where on Earth (or more accurately OFF Earth) is the founders world that I have been issues a permit for?

You get access to a system if you do bio Elite, didn't know that... thanks.

I have no idea where the system is, as I have only just found out that this is a thing :)

edit : congrats btw

ya it was all fa off... or more rightly put there was no flight assist
back in those days you had the stardreamer and military dives that tore holes in the fabric spacetime which are now banned
which produced radioactive waste as a by product..........

you used to be able to depart days after a target had jumped and get there sometimes days before they arrived to lie in wait to ambush them.......

the founders world permit unlocks shinrata dezhra heart of the elite pilots federation only permit holders have access to the system (and cheaper ship deals it offers) some cg''s may have given the award too methinks or a temporary visitors permit

That is the Shinrarta Dezrha system home to Jameson’s Memorial station and a hot spot for those who like asymmetric PvP so it is a good idea to fly something cheap to buy or otherwise mitigate the situation if you aren’t into that sort of thing.

Hi All :)

Aha!...thanks for posting this up. I remember seeing this a few years back now but I lost the link what with upgrading my computers etc.
Pretty isn't it!....when you see all the different planets and suns laid out like this you have to appreciate all the work that's gone into the game in this respect, amazing.
I was really hoping your coworkers were really sweary ****. I am deeply disappointed.
Oh my, I was quite errm...🤔...'surprised' how 'vocal' those young ladies could be when really annoyed with something, fair made me blush! :D, and I worked for many years in heavy industry previously on the factory floor, before working with those 'ladies' in that employment. So I thought I'd heard 'everything' in this regard if you see what I mean.

I'm not sure about that reference but I have fond memories of the game. Mostly vague. I recall it being difficult to land at a station.

Yeah, I agree, I sometimes judged it wrong and found myself looking at the 'game over' screen quite a few times, but of course, you could just boot up the previous save game, which if you had any sense you'd have saved it at some appropriate spot beforehand.
One of the reasons why I found this current game difficult to master at the beginning, it's much more unforgiving compared to Elite 2 and I found it very frustrating without that save game feature that I was used to.
This game undoubtably makes you think more carefully about what you're doing, or going to do. Case in point for example exploration. It can certainly dent your morale loosing that exploration data for one reason or another, I've been there and done that so if you also haven't many credits in the 'bank' and then seeing the re-buy screen, yeah that can really p*** you off as a new player. Something that we've all experienced I'd imagine.

It's different for me now though as I've got that 'buffer' of billions of credits stashed away, that and with the experience I've gained over the years I've been playing is my new type of 'save game'. A bit like the old saying applied to cutting timber etc. 'think twice, cut once'... I still make some mistakes, it's only natural, but the consequences are not so impactful on my game now.

What am I doing?....I'm presently trying to figure out what I need to do to get the Universal Cartographic & Outfitting facility's up and running at my Outpost station (the livery feature isn't working either?). At my Coriolis station the shipyard is active but not the cartographics, there's no mission board working there I think either, I'll have to physically go there in my ship and check just to make sure today.
I suppose I'll finally have to sift through all the posts referring to the station building process, which is going to be tedious for me personally. I just wish there was some sort of menu / topic on this provided by Frontier devs to refer back to....I'm starting to get slightly annoyed that there isn't, unless I've missed it somewhere.

I liked that feature, a sort of quirky time travel...plus you could speed the actual game up or down with the 'Stardreamer Time Control' too. :D
You could also get the Founders World Permit as part of the Kickstarter package if you wanted to I seem to remember.

Okay, :coffee: time, plus it's also time to head over to the Coriolis station and also sift through some of those forum posts. 😬

Yes, click it twice and you can drag it around for a real good view and larger text.

Hi :)
It's only a grind if you make it one :p
That's true. My concentration span is hopeless these days and I get easily bored / distracted if I'm grinding for too long.
It's best (I find personally) to kind of mix it up with different playstyles / tasks.
After I've checked up on my Coriolis station I'm heading out in my carrier to some of those far reaching player claimed systems. I suspect a player carrier dropping into some of those ongoing player claimed systems is going to put the fear of god into some of those players!...they might think I'm going to 'snipe' their proposed future builds.:devilish:

Nope!... I honestly wouldn't consciously do that as I've no intention of (a) regularly hauling stuff out that far and (b) I have no intention of riding on the back of somebody's hard earned work to reach a system that's probably a first discovered system by them.. I've recently read some posts on the forum where this is happening. I'm aware that this is a 'legal' process in the game (at the moment unless Frontier introduce something to stop that) but I personally don't want to partake in that. And anyway, I think there's too many systems that are going to be redundant as far as player build go, one way or another.
I'm just 'nosy' in this instance and it will be interesting to get a handle at what's going on in the outer reaches, plus as I said, it's mixing the playstyle up. I might take a load of CMM's or steel to help somebody out in their build if I feel generous!

What I would / will do though if the opportunity arises sometime in the future is this...I've got a number of outdoor world systems and large 'interesting' systems that I've first discovered that are starting out at least 2000ly out from the bubble. I might consider claiming those systems if there are any other player claimed or being claimed systems in those areas. I'll deal with the moral aspects of that if and when the situation arises. I don't imagine that situation is going to present itself anytime soon though.;)...but rightly or wrongly I feel that at least I have a valid reason for doing that. Other players might disagree. 🤷‍♂️

Edit...Okay my Coriolis station now has everything active as far as I can see bar the Cartographics facility, all it's producing as a colony is Hydrogen fuel and Biowaste. The mission board is up and running which I don't think was active pre-Thursdays tick. Population is 16,000 with four factions present. How it's progressed to this level I'm still not sure and it seems to be doing it automatically. Situation is the same as my Outpost then, as in needing something to kickstart into gear both stations Cartographics facility's.

Hashtag me personally, I do enjoy figuring out multidimensional problems, and 30-odd years of doing that for the day job also means I don't mind stopping at 80/20 (or to put that another way, 30 years of the Real World (tm) has beaten perfectionism out of me.) So I'm fairly grind-proof. On top of that, I would never have assumed building a Coriolis first was the right answer, I built an Outpost because... that's what Outposts are for; and because I do try and engage in-game, I didn't find either CMM or Membranes that difficult. I am well used to going looking for particular economies or environments and it prevents it from being a grind, because you have to keep adding sorties alongside the roundtrips, to find the next thing.

In the EDverse I tend to do enough of a thing to solve a problem and unlock a new bit of the game, and then I'll go and do whatever it is I just gained access to. For instance my AspX has a range of 30-odd LY and I appreciate that eventually I will find a rift or an intriguing island which requires me to do another round of engineering to get there, but it hasn't happened yet.

What got me into ED specifically is the multicoloured nature of it - you can have a stint of a task that requires everything to be perfect, or one that doesn't; you can have a stint that requires full twitch-gaming attention, or not; or actually you can have a task, or not.

My mild annoyance this weekend is I can't start anything major or time sensitive because I have a busy couple of weeks up until Easter so I think I might just do some in-Bubble bio from my nice new Outpost. I have to say I've only had a couple of "I'll just do exo for a week" moments and I'm close to my first billion already essentially by accident, so I might end up solving the Shipyard problem by buying an FC rather than building a Coriolis...

I had a vague plan to tip the BGS in my system but actually I might just join the PMF nearby, as I'm pretty sure if I missed a week's play they'd nab it anyway.
