Newcomer / Intro What are you up to?

Finished engineering a new Asp Explorer, and decided to board the Gnosis megaship for a while. Currently spending a week exploring at the top part of the Galaxy waiting for it to jump further.. Time will tell if I endure its long rift trip..

'Lawks'?
Are you reading some Discworld?
If you get a Python, you'll keep it. One of, if not the, most useful ships in the galaxy.[yesnod]
And it will earn it's purchase price back in no time!

Edit: Non of my Pythons are armed, nor have they ever been.:p

"Lawks", a quote in its fullest form would be "Lawks a lordy, my bottom's on fire!"

I actually just bought a Dolphin to see how passengers would feel. Not ready to commit to the big stuff yet :D

I use my Dolphin as a taxi and also for rares CGs when they come up and I don't want to bother with all the loading and transfering cargo known as Teabagging (do NOT google that term outside of the forums).

Viz has a lot to answer for :)

I did a bit of passenger hauling (self-loading cargo ;) ) and found them to be a thoroughly triublesome lot. Even the medical aid volunteers had me diverting to tourist beacons, picking up various pieces of cargo, etc. Then there was the group who wanted a holiday, and turned out to be gangsters... Keep a lookout for the dodgy ones and the fussy types and avoid them, and it is apparently much more relaxing :D

I’ve always been curious why that term was used in that way on these forums with its ...... history (if that’s the right word?)

...and I’m not even apologising for my brazen overuse of italics, I love italics.[heart]

As I understand it back before I got ED there was a CG to fight a plague in one system the treatment involved a type of Tea one of the rare goods and the technique was developed to increase the volume supplied, the name presumably was coined at that point and some of those involved would have founded the group and Player Faction. Note I haven't read the history this is just what I think I remember from comments in forum posts elsewhere.

Here you go..

All the tebagging knowledge you could possibly, er, wish for ;)

Thanks for the info, that’s the kind of tea-bagging I can get behind. Virtual rep aRJay....I need to use the other sub forums more often as I’ve never any rep to spread here!

At the moment I'm just goofing around, biding my time until the mining and exploration changes hit. I hope that there will be some cool new stuff to do at that point.

I'm in the odd position of having no particular goals at the moment!

I didn't. Python is an incredibly boring ship. And at 100MCr it's WAY worse than T7. It has less cargo space, worse maneuverability and general survivability. Its ONLY advantage is medium pads, but that simply doesn't justify it for me.

...just thought I'd chime in with an counter-argument. :)
Àn insane counter-argument, but a counter-argument nonetheless. :)

Insane? Why?

At 100 million, you can either have a total crap Python and NO money whatsoever, earning you a nice shiny Sidewinder if anything bigger than an Eagle decides to interdict you, or you can have a fully kitted T7 with bigger cargo hold, longer jump range and loads of money to burn on other ships or goods.

It's a bigger, slower target, has way less power and fewer, smaller hardpoints; yet you called the T7 more survivable.

You are still forgetting the budget. At 100M you have a D-rated Python at best, while T7 you can trick out pretty nicely. And I don't know why you think T7 would be less survivable. It has way more armour than a Python, both HP-wise and when comes to the hardness values. (shields don't count either way because you're equipping the smallest ones possible)

Ooooh! Changes! Where can I find out more? Cheers!

So the cheaper, and objectively worse ship in combat terms, is somehow more survivable?

It's a bigger slower target, that part is simple.
All the extra armor won't matter if you take more hits.
It's one of the easiest ships to hit.
At least the Python has a thin side.
And Python can fight back much better.

At a 100 mil budget, the build I gave had enough for many(~5 at LYR) rebuilds and the Python can earn them every trip.
It also has full sized, A rated FSD, thrusters and PD.
The PP is a 5A.
Only the life support and sensors are D rated.

I guess we won't see eye to eye in this, so just for the giggles. :D

Let's compare. (And first and foremost - we're talking a pure trading build, not a combat setup)

T7:
1) is half the price
2) is 17 m/s slower in boost, but her boost lasts longer. Not something I would call substantially slower. With only Reinforced alloys instead of military ones, their boost speed is basically the same while she still retains more armour.
3) has weaker shields by 70MJ but almost three times the armour, which is harder than Python's on top of that.
4) has more comfortable SC handling
5) has more cargo
6) has personality.

:p
Yeah, call me a fanboy, I don't care. :D

Lol, fair enough!
